Dear Sir,
first of all I would like to thank you for your review of our hotel and then, on behalf of the whole staff, I would like to apologize for the behavior of some of us.
Our bar is open from 5:00 PM and I am extremely sorry about you not being served properly.
We do our best to solve problems as soon as they show up but we can’t do anything if our guests don’t tell us if there’s anything wrong.
According to the HACCP rules the eggs we serve at breakfast are fresh, pasteurized and cooked right away and we never use powders or cook them previously.
For security reasons we removed chairs and tables from the balconies but our reception can provide them upon request.
Our property has two eight-person elevators in the main hall and a six-person elevator at one end of the building, so if fifty guests with their suitcases want to use them at the same time some of them might have to wait a few minutes.
Yours sincerely,
Andrea Nicolai

Good quality hotel 20 mins by public transport to the centre. The rooms are comfortable, clean with plenty of space. The restaurant was good but limited but the hotel lacked a dedicated bar for pre or post meal drinks. As this is used by tour groups there were times when the lifts were inadequate. Pool and gym availible but at extra cost

Larger rooms than typical European hotels and beds are bigger. You can smell the residual smoke clearly just like most hotels. It is not easy to find or get to because if the small roads. Price is fair. Good, free WiFi is a plus.

I stayed 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis with a Riviera tour group and would have preferred another day to visit Rome's treasures. Whatever, the Oly Hotel met my needs. It's a bit out of town, but .... again, the reception was welcoming and seamless for a party of 50+. My room was on the 5th floor. It was clean, odour free and comfortable. Wifi worked ok - if slowly. The bathroom was a wet room and that was ok also. I didn't flood the place! My end-corridor room had a large balcony but, sadly, no furniture to enjoy the evening sun. The air-con was effective. Breakfast offered 'streaky' bacon and scrambled eggs along with the 'usual' Continental choices. That was good! Coffee (Espresso + American) from a catering 'machine' was adequate without being exceptional! As a solo traveller, I chose to dine in the hotel's restaurant and enjoyed the food very much. (Please note, fellow travelers had good reports about local restaurants.) Sadly, on the last night, I was unwell during the meal and missed the Roman 'themed' night. I hasten to add that the problem was not the food. Within 15 minutes, the receptionist called my room asking after my welfare - now that I value highly. Thank you to Venessa and Jessica from the restaurant - you are special people who were thinking of me and so I rate the staff very good!
I was sorry to read that other reporters had a bad experience with pickpockets locally. I was not effected this - ok, it's a fair walk to the Metro but a bus stop is but 100 m away. I, thankfully, never felt threatened.
I was happy at the Oly Hotel.

Free wifi in room, spacious and clean.

Stayed 3 nights as part of a tour group, liked the hotel, breakfast was the usual continental fare with some warm scrambled eggs and bacon. Coffee from the machine was not good, ask the staff to prepare coffee from the kitchen espresso instead, the locals do.

No problems walking to and from the metro, good Spar supermarket nearby on Via DaVinci.

Unusually early check out at 10.30am.

Room Tip: Seems the spacious rooms are located on floors 4 - 5.

Essentially this is a nice hotel. The staff are friendly and can speak English. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

The common areas are also clean although the hotel bar doesn’t open until 5pm which is a little strange. We had our evening meal at the hotel (for reasons explained below) which was excellent, 16 euros for very well cooked fillet beef was well worth it as was the house red at 12 euros a bottle.

We tried out the pool etc. This is a bit disappointing as it is really just free access to a separate gym and pool in the hotel basement which is open to none hotel guests and looked a bit tired. There are also no lockers so you have to go back to your room wet…

So far so good and the hotel deserves 3 uk stars.

However we would never ever say at this hotel again. The problem is the area! We walked from the B2 line stop at Basilica San Paolo (where we were pick pocketed, we reported it to the local police who weren’t surprised in the slightest).

You then have to walk through what can only be described as a very dangerous and run down area to the hotel. We are well used to the poor areas of London and Manchester but there was a very threatening atmosphere with gangs of people hanging around the street corners. The area was so bad that we decided not to venture out to dinner as we thought it too dangerous to go out in the dark, hence eating at the hotel!

If you are on a coach tour (and many people at the hotel were) then the area wont bother you so much as you wont have to walk around in it, however if you are an independent traveller (who is going to use the metro) then I strongly recommend you think again about staying in this area.

Such a shame but given the area one star can be given.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have outside space but are smoking rooms

Dear Guest,

first of all I would like to thank you for your review, even if it is negative.

We are extremely sorry for you being pick-pocketed in the Metro, but this could have happened also if you were some other hotel's guest.

We regret that your overall impression of our hotel didn't consider the hotel itself and that it was mainly influenced by this episode.

As far as we know none of our guests has ever been assaulted or harassed in the surroundings of Oly Hotel, even late at night, and most of them appreciate the quiet and residential area.

We do appreciate your positive opinion about our rooms, our restaurant and our staff and we are looking forward to seeing you again.

Yours sincerely,

Andrea Nicolai

We stayed here on a tour of classical Italy with Riviera Travel, staying at the Oly for 3 nights. A great hotel, staff very friendly. Our room was on the top floor with a balcony, giving us a great view over Rome. Spotless and the beds were comfy. Breakfast was adequate, certainly enough for my husband and I to choose from. We chose to use the metro into Rome which was easy to use (maybe because there were only 2 lines!). Just a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Would definitely stay here again if in Rome.
