“Near the station!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Small pitoresk hotel located near the trainstation Termini in Rome.
The hotel was small and cozy, The staff very friendly but not so good with english.
The room was spatious and ok standard. Fresh bathroom.
Very light breakfast, coffee, white bread and jam.
The area was not the nicest but it was very close to the train and metro so in a few minutes you could be downtown and enjoy Rome!
We were looking for a cheap hotel near the station and we got what we were looking for.

Its near the main train station (Roma Termini) whats the only positive thing if you travel with train. The streets are dirty and garbage is everywhere. Poor, homeless people and strange, dangerous faces look at you. Why dont they clean up all the dirt and garbage if millions of tourists visit this city every year. Looks like this is normal in Italy. No idea why the tourists love it. So after it gets dark you better dont walk around!

The Hotel is an old building what need refurbishment. So does the room and the furnitures.
The staff is friendly and helpful! There are cats everywhere :D

Sightseeing is the first priority for most people who come to Rome, so the hotel is basically a place where you can take a rest after a long and exhausting walk through the city. This place is just awesome for those who don't seek luxury conditions and prefer simplicity. If a comfortable bed, hot shower and a fresh breakfast is what you're looking for, you should definitely consider going to this hotel. Some visitors complain about the noise outside, but how can you expect a different situation in a city's centre? It wasn't a problem for us because exploring Rome makes you extremely tired to the end of the day. The closest subway station is situated in a 7 minutes walking distance from the hotel's door. We even tried to get to Vatican by foot and it took us an hour and a half. Most local supermarkets get closed at around 8PM, so be sure to buy anything you need in the afternoon. The area is full of immigrants but I can't say they were annoying. The staff is very welcome and provides you with any information you'd like to know. The breakfasts include coffee, orange juice, extremely tasty croissants, several kinds of jam and yogurt, cookies and fruit - pretty much enough to fill your fuel tank in the morning.

Location: exiting Roma Termini on the exit closest to the rails on the left side of Termini you can see the Radisson hotel on the left. Keep walking past the Radisson and past a small square with a theatre and you'll find the Elyse on the corner. It's about a 4 min walk from this exit but probably an 8-10 min walk to the front of Termini and the metro station. The location is good for Termini but I discovered there are plenty more hotels even closer and with a more lively neighborhood around. The area around the Elyse is pretty quiet. The shops and eateries are closer to the front of Termini.
Hotel: a big positive was that we arrived around 8:00 am and they immediately gave us a room while other hotels tend to force you to wait until check in time. The hotel, however, looks dated from the lobby to the rooms. The bedroom was basic but ok, and unlike other reviewers who complain about the noise, our room faced a courtyard and was pretty quiet. However, the bathroom was very uncomfortable, especially the shower. It didn't look very clean and it was tiny. Also, it was impossible to avoid spilling lots of water into the bathroom while showering. As for amenities there was a mini bar, a safe (that didn't work in our room), hairdryer and basic toiletries. Free wi-fi and breakfast, although the latter is extremely basic.
Considering the price there are better hotels in the area, even some two stars that I prefer. Wouldn't recommend unless you're out of options or you get a really great deal. Also, take into account there's no elevator.

Room Tip: Our room facing a courtyard was very quiet. We didn't hear anything from the trains.

Starting with the positives, the staff seemed friendly, the mattress was comfortable and the shower was good. Unfortunately that's about it. The location is dark, noisy, not particularly pleasant and certainly far less convenient for Termini and public transport than many other hotels. It's all pretty shabby and dated, with lots of things broken that haven't been fixed. I got a real dud of a room on the ground floor, which stank of cigarette smoke, had a seriously noisy perma-tenant next door, and may as well have had the pavement passing through it for all the good the window did in keeping pedestrian noise out (never mind the traffic).

All in all the hotel has rather put a dampener on my time in Rome, and I am seriously regretting booking here. Starting and ending the day here was not fun, and the idea of popping back for a rest or a shower before dinner was enough to put me off.

The room I was in should not be used for guests, and if booking here I strongly recommend demanding that you are not put on the ground floor. Better yet, book somewhere else and have a more fun experience in Rome.

Room Tip: Ask to be as high up as possible.

The staff is nice and helpful. A bus station and metro is very near (3 minuts walk to the bus and a 7 to the metro) to all what you want to see in Rome. We stayed there for 4 nights and enjoyd it a lot!

We stayed at the Elyse for one night after a cruise and before our departure for home the next day. I chose it because of its proximity to Termini and a favourable price.
While the map shows it is literally across the street from Termini, it is actually 3 or 4 long blocks from the main entrance. If you are arriving in Rome by train look for a station exit closer to Via Cairoli.

The hotel is older but this is Rome - what do you expect? We found the lobby very hospitable and the staff very friendly and helpful. There are no elevators and the bellman wasn't around so I shuttled our bags up one flight of stairs to our room.

The room was clean with air conditioning and a large bathroom with a shower only. We were not situated on the busy streets or facing the station so noise wasn't an issue and we slept comfortably.

If you are used to walking then you will be able to reach the main attractions by foot.. Otherwise the hotel is within blocks of two metro stations.
In the morning there was breakfast that included pastry, fruit and toast. They stored our luggage for us after we checked out so we could spend more time touring the city before we caught the airport bus (located at Termini).

If you are on a budget and just looking for a convenient place to park your bags while you spend the day and evening exploring Rome then the Elyse should work for you.

Room Tip: Facing Cairoli Street
