“Contiki Tour Group”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2012

I stayed here in the end of September/beginning of October 2012. This hotel is nothing fancy, but it was clean, the staff was friendly and my bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good and included assorted pastries, meat and cheese, fruit, juices and coffee. The staff at the front desk was friendly, but as I was with a group and a guide, I did not have much need to soeak with them. The hotel is approximately a 10 minute walk to the Termini station so there is easy access to the subway and bus lines as well as, obviously, the trains. There is a lot of hotels in this area so there is quite a few decent restaurants in the area. There is also shopping available on Via Nazionale and various other places.
My room was quite small, but as I was only in there to sleep, it wasn't much of a problem (and other people in my group all seemed to have larger rooms). Our 2 twin beds were practically touching each other and I still had barely enough room to open my suitcase up between the bed and the wall. Our bathroom was okay, but the shower was really small.

I stayed in hotel Lux with a school group last week. The hotel is certainly no 4-star hotel, but the fierce criticisms on the internet are grossly exaggerated. The rooms were OK, the staff was quite friendly, rooms were cleaned, there were ample clean towels, and breakfast was more than satisfactory. The hotel was in a quiet side-street, and a 10-minutes' walk from Termini. All-in-all. we had a pleasant stay at Hotel Lux.

Having stayed there in April 2012 with a school group i could recommend for similar groups. It is clean and basic accommodation and suitable for groups. If you are expecting luxury this is not the hotel but for a base while sight sighting it was ideal. Breakfast is basic but ample - Continental. Excellent location as it is about 5mins to Termini main station. only negative comment was that some of our group where in a room which was suppose to sleep four and it was very cramped.

This was without doubt the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. It was absolutely filthy. I have posted some photographs so that you can see the disgusting conditions I stayed in. It was advertised as a 4 star hotel - this should have said minus 4 stars.DON'T GO THERE!!!!! If you do you'll be sorry

We were booked into this hotel as part of a school's rugby tour which was visiting Rome - the boys were in a 3* and the lucky parents were put into this hotel as it was a 4*.

Not sure where the star ratings come from, but it was a very poor advert for the starring system! On arrival we discovered that most of the other parents had already checked out and gone somewhere else! We were given a key to our room which was on the 5th floor - the door would not shut unless we locked it and even then it was a struggle and there was barely any room to get the 2 suitcases in, nevery mind 2 people. The bathroom was tiny and the shower difficult to get into although to be fair the water was hot. The towels were minute and had holes in.
Breakfast consisted of a coffee machine which made the most disgusting coffee, which had a rather nasty scum on top of it, and the croissants were fairly dry. Jam to help these along was either pink or orange in colour, but certainly not anything in taste! We lasted 2 nights here before checking out and going to join the other parents in a much better 4* hotel!

Room Tip: Don't!

Four star hotel??? I don't think so, more like minus two star. I was on a school trip we first stayed in a lovely hotel in Sorrento and then came up to Rome with high expectations that our hotel would be equally as nice as the previous one. We were wrong!!! It's not as if we are a fussy bunch of teenagers, but we do expect the basics, even the teachers that were with us were complaining! First of all my room was absolutely tiny - a twin room with four beds! We struggled to fit our regular sized suitcases in the room. Second, our door wouldn't close or lock properly, which made us all rather uncomfortable. Third, there was a fusty smell in every room and some rooms smelt damp, thankfully ours didn't. In a classmates room, there was a blood stain on the curtain and the toilet wouldn't flush properly. One of the sockets in our room was broken. The shower door wouldn't close right. Our beds were extremely low and there was poor lighting in the room. Everyone was very cramped in the hotel. The corridors were narrow and it was very awkward for 42 noisy and excited sixteen year olds to move around in.
Then the breakfast ................uuuugh! I couldn't eat anything - no joke and I am not a fussy eater. The croissants had blue mould on them, the bread was hard, no toaster, no orange juice (pineapple juice which nobody likes instead), sweet milk, smelly water and the delph was cracked and chipped. Luckily I had brought some food so I didn't starve in the morning. Being typical Irish teenagers, most of us can't survive without the cup of tea, guess what?? No tea, but a classmate brought teabags so we survived. The hotel doesn't even have a kitchen i.e. no oven, grill or microwave. Some of the teachers that have porridge every morning couldn't even have it because there was no microwave, mad isn't it?
We were told by the hotel staff (who by the way were super rude and grumpy and I'm not letting them away with the excuse of having noisy teenagers around, because we were fairly quiet!) that we could have the drinks in the mini fridge free of charge, but on check out they were looking for us to pay for the drinks, we refused and they weren't too impressed.
I had a great time in Rome and spent as little time a possible in the hotel. To say the hotel was disappointing is an understatement and I will never be returning to Hotel Lux! By the way if anyone is still interested in staying at Hotel Lux, the cost for a twin room B&B for one night is €100!! Fantastic value - i don't think so!

Room Tip: Don't even go to this hotel, let alone be considering what room to stay in!

I was very unfortune having to stay at this hole for the last two nights of a contiki tour. the staff was super rude and at night don't even wear a uniforms. our check out was at 10:30, and the maids started yelling in the hall at 8 am then began hounding us from 9 am onwards to leave by coming in, calling the room and even yelling to check- out. i had been travel for 4 weeks before this contiki tour and any hostel Kills this hole. also not to
mention the Dirty sewer smell of the room.
