We enjoyed our stay here very much. Central, quiet hotel. Nice staff. Very comfortable room. Scrummy breakfast. Can't wait to go back. Towels changed daily and toiletries replenished.Only negative comment - the room needed a chest of drawers to put items that did not go in the wardrobe.

We stayed in the hotel for four nights in late April. Initially we had an issue as we were placed in an economy room where we had booked a standard room. The economy room would be lucky to obtain a 2 star rating and no matter whether you are on a budget, I would not recommend this level of room.

When we approached the reception staff, about the room, they were very dismissive stating this was the room that was booked by the Travel Agent intermediary (Travel Cube). To resolve the issue with our Australian Agent, we had to email as the reception staff would not assist and have it resolved overnight; therefore, spending a night in an inadequate room that we did not purchase. Thankfully our Travel Agent - Just Cruises Australia rectified the issue.

In regards to the remainder of the stay, the correct room was comfortable and sufficient for a mutli night stay. The bathroom was a good size; although there was no shower curtain; therefore the floor would get very wet following a shower. Breakfast was provided and was sufficient for any travellers needs.

The location of the hotel is only about 100m from Rome Termini and the Metro, this allows easy access to the railway network to get to sights of Rome, as well the Colosseum is only a 2km walk away.

There are a number of ristorantes close by the hotel has a relationship with Andrea Pizzaria, which provided very reasonably price food and service.

Overall given the location, if returning to Rome we would consider staying at Hotel Archimede again.

Room Tip: Do not chose an Economy room, very basic, uncomfortable mattress and a view over a alcove that contains the rubbish.

We stayed in a superior room which was worth the extra few euros (judging on some reviews about standard, cheaper, smaller rooms - you clearly get what you pay for). We were on the top floor with a good view across the city. Wifi worked throughout the hotel and our air conditioner worked (although was a little noisy at night so slept with the window open). Staff at reception and breakfast were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was very good with a wide continental style buffet choice. Location is excellent and there are plenty of good value cafes/restaurants in the area. Supermarket 5 minutes walk. Was advised at time of booking tourist tax was 6 euros per person per night to be paid direct to hotel. Room nicely decorated and very clean. Overall would highly recommend :-)

Room Tip: If you want a larger room pay the little extra for a superior room.

Where to start - we were originally given a ground floor disabled room (none of us are disabled) so there was only a shower wetroom instead of bath. This would be great if the person who fitted the bathroom understood the laws of physics instead of placing a drain on top of a mound. The bathroom routinely flooded making the room carpet wet. Everything looked tired, the room was cramped. You could barely access the little fridge because it was placed in a cupboard and the door would go into the bed (see pics). After complaining about the flooding we got moved to a room upstairs, things weren't much better, although there was a bath to collect water for the shower... Except it was bloked! Questionable was placement of shower near an electrical switch high on the wall (see pic).

The Wifi acess was dreadful to access and didn't work on the basis of the duration of your stay. Every day you needed to create a whole new regristation account (realised you could make anything up) but you then had to use the random numbers for user ID and password that they generate to enter on your devices. It was only the limited 3G/4G coverage that forced me to waste 20 minutes or so of my life to go through this every day. Breakfast was a disorganised mess that required begging the kitchen staff to bring out more cutlery or cups and bowls. the food itself was ok if you like lots of bread and cake (there was also youghat). The icing on the cake was being overharged on the tourist tax. I checked online first and knew what we should be charged.

When checking out the man on the desk presented a bill twice as much, and refused to aknowledge the prices on turismoroma website. There were two girls who also work on reception - sadly they weren't there at the time, just this man )possibly their boss). As we wanted to leave our stuicases there for a few hours we begrudginly paid up, but they were behaving dishonestly. On the subject of dishonesty, watch out for the black minibus drivers. Don't use them. They aren't official or regulated. We saw a couple turn up across the street from our 1st floor room and were surrounded by one or two associates of the driver, they appeared to go through their wallet puling out money from the couple - it all looked unsavoury. A google search showed the black minbus drivers to be a regular criminal activity in Rome. No need for it when the train station is so close!

Room Tip: Pay a little more, stay somewhere else.

This is the most miserable place I have slept. I suffered a bad mood most of my stay in Rome because of this hotel. It wouldn't be so bad if I knew in advance and if I was prepared myself psychologically, but when you know you are going to a 4 stars hotel and you end up in a small dark hole as this room, its rather shocking.
The hotel is old and never been renewed. The door opens by key, not a card. The space you see between the door and the wardrobe in front is not enough to "squeeze" your suitcase into the room.
The bathroom offers a bath but no curtain. There is no soap dish, no proper cup for tooth brush and paste. All you get is a small soap in plastic wrap and two plastic cups. The staff folds the old towels but doesn't replace with new ones.
There was a tiny piece of nail sticking out down on the wall where I ripped my sock but luckily didn't hurt my foot. And luckily, it wasn't cold. Looking at the blankets we found in the wardrobe, we thought we would rather sleep with our clothes.
Breakfast is worse than the rooms - there is everything gone at about 9 o'clock - no plates, no ham or cheese. One person tries to take away all dirty plates from the tables. Lack of organisation. Slowly the staff brings out more food. Some tables are not stable and wobble. The coffee is disgusting due to the milk powder in it. Actually all breakfast area smells artificial milk. I would recommend only the croissants, but don't we supposed to have a better variety in a 4 stars hotel?
On top of all, we had to pay some city tax of 6 euro per person per day!
