“Family Owned Hotel in Rome”
Reviewed 19 June 2012

We stayed four nights at the Hotel Golden in Rome, and enjoyed it very much. The room was small, but comfortable...quaint! Bathroom was just fine, with a additional footbath. Okay, maybe it's a beday, but it works well as a footbath and for doing a bit of laundry too! The breakfasts were fine, nothing fancy, but filled our bellies enough for a good morning out. BUT, what makes this hotel most special are the owners. It is a family run hotel, and they are as nice as they can be! They were very helpful and friendly. In fact, I forgot my camera charger and when I arrived in Florence, there it was! I don't know how they knew where I'd be, but how nice of them to mail it to me!
The location isn't bad at all. It's not in the "heart" of Rome, but never too far to walk to a major site, hook up point, or even to the Metro. When you're in Rome, no matter where you stay, just expect to walk...a lot!!! But back to the location, it's in a very nice neighborhood that is pretty quiet at night. But there are plenty of restuarants nearby, and just around the corner is one of Marriott's very fancy hotels. We always felt safe, no matter what time of day or night it was.
If you're looking for something in the medium price range, nothing too fancy but comfortable & friendly, this is a great hotel that I highly recommend!

We liked this hotel a lot. Our room was large and clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. It's on the second floor of a building and gives you the feeling of really being in Rome. It has flavor to it. The staff recommended two great restaurants for lunch & dinner. They also helped us with our travel plans to Todi, Umbria and suggested a great town to stop in along the way for lunch. We recommend this small family owned hotel for anyone who would like to have a true Roman holiday.

A friend and I stayed at this hotel and can highly recommend it. Giuseppe, Marco and their family are lovely, and very helpful. In addition to maps and travel advice, they gave us several restaurant suggestions (two of which I can also recommend: Nino, near the Spanish Steps, and Il Pomodorino, about a block from the hotel). The hotel is very clean and comfortable, and in a safe neighbourhood. One of the highlights was opening the shutters on our first morning to find a huge bust of a Roman emperor in the wall across the road - yep, this is Rome! After a couple of days in Rome, we went to the Amalfi Coast for a week and then returned to Hotel Golden for a few days, and Giuseppe was more than happy to store a bag for me while we were away. The location is great. As others have mentioned, it does require a bit of a walk to some of the main attractions, but for us this wasn't a problem - one of the delights of Rome! I definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I think the first room we were in (with the great view of the Roman emperor!) was Room 101.

We decided to stay at Hotel Golden quite last minute however were pleased with our decision by the end of our trip. Location wise, I would say it has a solid location right across from the Villa Borghese Park. The only reason I say solid (personally I thought it was a great location) is because it does require a bit of a walk, in comparison to some hotels located basically right at Trevi Fountain etc. ( Hotel Golden is 10 minutes to Spanish Steps, 15 minutes to Trevi Fountain). We love to walk and found the location perfect as it gave us a bit of extra exercise and the hotel is located in a nice quiet area, while other hotels were completely packed with tourists. If you are a runner, was great to jog through the park.

Marco and Guiseppe ran the front desk and immediately made us feel at home. We had arrived in after a long day and desperately needed a solid meal. Marco recommended San Marco restaurant around the corner and it was amazing. We ended up eating there several more times on our trip... the pizza, pasta, everything was fantastic.

The breakfast provided was adequate. I think it was good, however for the price we have received a bit superior of breakfasts along our travels. With this being said, it was fresh and the service was fantastic. I guess I just would have liked a bit larger selection however am now being picky.

The hotel is not big (one floor in a apartment building) so if you are looking for amenities like a gym, spa etc, this is not your place. It was perfect for what we wanted: a nice, clean, welcoming place to sleep at the end of long days of walking and travelling. Marco and Guiseppe were great at providing recommendations about sights to see and laying out a detailed plan on a map for us. They even got us tickets to see the Borghese Gallery.

We really have no complaints about the room or hotel. One unfortunate incident occurred where the power line's were cut to the building which woke the hotel guests up in the middle of the night however this was outside of the hotel's reach and not there fault. They were apologetic and explained what had happened. This stuff happens.

Really great family, was nice to meet Marco's wife, mother, father and sister as well. Marco and Guiseppe definitely make a point to offer superior service which makes up for the hotel's lack of true prestigious amenities. Fine for us. Definitely recommend.

Our family of four recently stayed at this hotel and had a terrific experience. Our room was better suited for two, but the four of us managed well with the additional twin beds they added to the room. The best part of the Hotel Golden is the family who owns and operates it. Giuseppe, Marco, and Maria Teresa were wonderful hosts, offering spot-on recommendations and assistance in making reservations. Their mother prepares the enjoyable breakfast in the morning. The hotel is located in a very nice neighborhood next to Borghesi Park, which is north of most of the main attractions. It is walkable if you like to get some exercise or an easy taxi ride. WE highly recommend the Hotel Golden. Thank you for helping make our visit to Rome a memorable one!

We have just had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Golden for three nights. This intimate family run business is professional, friendly, clean, with nice rooms. It is in a very good location close to many good restaurants, bars, stores and short walking distance to all the main sights in Rome (they provided us with a map that they marked for us with all the routes to get where we were wanting to go and also provided us with great suggestions for additional sight seeing and meals). As three women traveling together the area around this hotel always felt safe and comfortable. The Guiseppe Family are very helpful and will do all they can to make your stay in Rome positive. They also provide a very good fresh home cooked breakfast every morning. I would strongly recommend this hotel to all my friends and family and if I am fortunate enough to be able to go back to Rome again I will definitely stay at this hotel!!!!
