“Warm family feel”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

It really is the people who make the place and the Loria's family is a true example of that. We reached the Hotel well before the check in time after a long over night flight and Marco had graciously kept our room ready for us. Their invaluable advice on where to eat, where to go, where not to go - all made it a homely experience in a new land. We were so touched when Mama Teresa and Alina prepared vegetarian fritters for us for breakfast. Her grandmotherly love for our young children was visible and they absolutely loved their Christmas presents. The hotel is well located in a quiet neighbourhood, yet well connected to the main transport network. Barberini metro station is about a 8 to 10 min walk - slowly with children. The children's favourite hangout were the cafe's for hot chocolate and my husband couldn't get enough of the scrumptious delicacies in the pastry shop in the lane just behind the hotel. A wonderful experience.

We stayed at the Golden for 2 nights December 5 and 6th. We loved the charm of the place. It was all decorated for Xmas. Yes the rooms are small, but honestly I loved having a family take care of us. And the breakfasts are worth the trip alone. At home we will be trying to make the same omelet that they made. We left feeling so full every morning, that we usually had very late lunches. We will absolutely be back to stay longer next time.

This hotel deserves its ratings. This is a family owned hotel and the whole family is friendly and extremely helpful. Good security and excellent location. Continental breakfast was way nicer than I expected for a small hotel. Rooms are small for sure but were completely adequate for two. Rooms were very clean which is always a concern. There is a minibar too and has reasonable prices for that. I will stay here again if I get the chance.

This is our story of another perfect stay with the wonderful owners of the Hotel Golden.
We arrived at FCO early Thanksgiving morning for a pre cruise stay, and were transported by private service arranged for us by the Hotel Golden. Upon arrival Marco was waiting outside to assist with our luggage. We were offered breakfast, and told that our room was ready for us. I had not asked for this service, but it was graciously offered, and gratefully accepted as we were exhausted after not being able to sleep on a long flight from the U.S.
Ours was a three night stay at the Hotel Golden on our second trip to Rome. Being somewhat familiar with the transportation system we asked Marco and Giuseppe for directions to some of the not so traditional sights, and were directed to these as well as warned about safety issues in places we wanted to go.
Accommodations were double superior, room #110. This room was a little smaller than #111, but still very spacious, and immaculately clean and orderly thanks to Maria, who went about her job efficiently, and inconspicuously.
Every morning we were greeted warmly by Mama Teresa and Alina, who were busy preparing a large array of breakfast items including omelets, boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, cereals, juices, breads, fresh homemade pastries, fruits, and freshly brewed American and European coffees. I am sure I have missed items, but if there was something that you wanted Mama Teresa and Alina would prepare it for you if possible with the supplies that were on hand.
Papa Mario was most always around. He has a somewhat serious look on his face as he oversees his family working together so efficiently, but occasionally a slight smile comes to his face with a greeting of Buon giorno, or Buona sera depending on the time of day. We only saw Maria Teresa once this time as she was busy with other matters.
Our transportation to the port of Civitavecchia was arranged by the Lorio family as well. After an enjoyable stay, with an endearing family at the Hotel Golden, Marco was there to help with our luggage, offer a gracious thank you and warm goodbye, with hopes of seeing us again in the future.
For those of you who might wonder, the Hotel Golden is located in a very safe neighborhood, and only one block away Via Veneto and Borghese Park. There are several moderately priced recommended restaurants within two or three blocks, as well as high end restaurants and Harry’s Bar which is just a block away on Via Veneto. A pastry/coffee shop sits on the corner of their building at ground level, and a Tabacchi across the street (Via Sardegna) where you can purchase transportation passes. We were directed to two safe locations for ATM transactions, one being the bank where the family does their banking just a block away and one about three blocks away across from the U.S. Embassy on Via Veneto. Bus stops are one block away on Via Veneto where you can connect to any of the public transportation system within Rome. There is also a small grocery/convenience store near the police station, and a wine shop nearby.
To us, the Hotel Golden is perfectly located in a very quiet neighborhood, yet extremely accessible to all Rome has to offer. If you like smaller Boutique/B&B type accommodations in a family safe neighborhood you might want to give Hotel Golden a try, we once did, and have been very happy with our decision!
Kathy and I (Steve) hope to spend a full week at the Hotel Golden in the future, and offer our sincere thanks to Papa Mario, Mama Teresa, Marco, Giuseppe, Alina, Maria Teresa, and Maria for lovingly providing such a warm, inviting, and safe place to stay.

Room Tip: If you prefer a spacious room similar to something you get in the U.S.A. you might want to book a do...

We stayed here in mid November for 3 nights. After a long travel night/day from Miami it was a welcome home experience. The hotel is very well located in an exceptional neighborhood within walking distance to all major attractions. Upon check in Giuseppe spent a great amount of time telling us the best walking routes to each place on a very easy to read map, highlighting also his favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. It made it very easy to get around and took all of the guess work out of our days and maximized our time there.
The breakfast every morning was perfect and exactly what we needed, fresh fruit, cheeses, bread, pastries, and hot eggs. Along with coffee, tea, juice, etc.
Our room was clean and neat. We had booked a classic double room, but were upgraded. We were pleased to have a large bathroom and perfect sized bedroom as well. The room was equipped with a hairdryer and safe additionally, and we had free wifi for all our devices.
Overall it was a wonderful stay, every night we would come back and tell Giuseppe about our day and he was genuinely interested and wanted to hear everything. We also were able to see the Pope's Sunday blessing and he told us what time to arrive in order to see well, and it was really an experience of a lifetime. It was like coming home to family, and while traveling that it is nice to have that peace of mind. We found the family lives right in the building that the hotel is in, so you really are coming home to them! After hours you have to be buzzed in which is very nice for safety.
Last, we used their car service as a pick up upon arrival to Rome, we were delayed by 5 hours from our connecting flight, and there was no problem with a later pick up time, which was a relief to us. The driver they provided was prompt, waiting for us and for 50 Euro, it was a good price for a private car.
Book this hotel, you will not regret it!

We came across the Hotel Golden based on it's glowing Trip Advisor profile and after just returning home from our trip ourselves, I can see why. The family was among the most accommodating and just overall friendly people we have ever stayed with. Our room was very clean, clean towels and sheets, not to mention great water pressure. Our room consisted of a king sized bed, three windows, bathroom with upright shower, sink, toilet and bidet. There was complimentary breakfast provided every morning (with some of the best fresh orange juice).

The location of the hotel was my favorite thing. Just about everything was within walking distance:

Spanish Steps - 10 mins
Trevi Fountain - 10 mins
Colosseum - 30 mins
St Peters Basilica - 40 mins
Pharmacy/Farmacia - 5 mins
Grocery/Market - 5 mins

(to name a few...)

This was my wife and I's first trip to Rome, and the family at Hotel Golden couldn't have made the experience any better. Thank you very much!
