“Hotel Golden provided us with a warm, inviting, comfortable stay in Rome.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2010

Hotel Golden was a wonderful hotel to stay in Rome. We were in a quiet neighborhood off the Via Veneto but many of the sites we wanted to see were within walking distance.
The staff was very helpful with all our questions and always provided us with excellent advice. We would love to stay there again!

Hotel Golden is in a great location in a posh neighborhood - Upon arrival we were given a map with directions to restaurants, tourist hot spots, etc. The front desk man gave us detailed instructions on how to get to Trastavere (complete with bus stops!). It was amazing.

The room was gorgeous. When we opened the window we saw a statue right outside - we couldn't believe how lucky we got with the room view! The room came with robes and slippers, a tv, minibar - just about everything you need.

I loved this hotel and could have stayed another month there. It's family run and you can feel the camaraderie and love they share.

When I come back to Rome I will definitely be staying here.

My husband and I visited Rome in March for our honeymoon. We stayed for 3 nights. As soon as we arrived, Marco made us feel very welcome, as if we were guests of his own home. He even upgraded our room for us. We expected our room to be small according to the horror stories we had heard regarding hotels in Rome, but to our surprise it was very spacious, accommodating and most importantly clean! The only negative is that the shower was small and confined (but I think thats a European thing). Our room was on a street, but with the window's closed we couldn't hear a thing. There's free Wi-Fi available. Free breakfast also available, consisting of fresh pastries, meats, fruits, coffee, juices, etc. replenished frequently. Customer service is impeccable. Marco and his brother are very helpful in advising you on what sites to see, and the best way to get there. We were able to walk to the Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain, and to many great places to eat. We had our tour's pre-arranged, but I'm sure they would be very helpful in advising you in this regard as well. The Colosseum as well as Vatican City are just a short cab ride away, or if you want you can use the bus system to save money. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Golden and would definitely stay here again if we're ever in Rome again.

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at this wonderful little Roman Hotel. From the minute we arrived, the family run establishment could not do enough to make our stay any more pleasant.

The room we were allocated was spacious, exceptionally clean and had a magnificent view of the Aurelian Wall directly behind the hotel. Breakfast was a treat, with a plentiful supply of enough variety to tempt any traveller.

Located within easy walking distance of Rome's main tourist attractions (10mins from Spanish Steps) it will provide any traveller with all they could need to enjoy their stay in the "Eternal City". If you do travel to the hotel, make the most of the Villa Borghese park right on your doorstep. The beautiful walk through the park to the Pinchio lookout over Piazza Del Popolo, with its fantastic view over the whole city is a must!

I had a great time in Rome. One of the things that made my visit truly amazing was choosing to stay at Hotel Golden. My sister and I stayed at Hotel Golden with my two sons (Ages 8 and 4). The hotel is very quaint, clean, and in a great location. The Spanish Steps is just a 15 minute walk from the hotel. A light breakfast consisting of danishes, yogurt, fruit, and chesse is served every morning and the hotel staff was very accomodating. Marco and Guiseppie arranged all of our tours, gave excellent directions to the local sights, and even suggested great restaurants for us to dine in. Most importantly, the cost of this hotel, for the service we received, is excellent for the frugal traveler. The next time I am in Rome, I will definitely stay at Hotel Golden.

Just returned from Rome 2 days ago for a week and stayed at a “treasure” of a hotel—Hotel Golden. Located off the Via Veneto and a short distance from the Villa Borghese—this “boutique” hotel is operated by a wonderful Italian family. There were 4 of us traveling so we booked 2 double superior rooms. The rooms were a nice size—rooms in Italy are definitely smaller than in the states—very clean and nicely decorated. Noise was not a problem as the windows were soundproofed. The two brothers of the family—Guiseppe and Marco basically ran the front desk and were always available and so very helpful in getting us acclimated to the “Italian lifestyle”. Breakfast was nice—a good selection of items that Europeans and Americans would enjoy. The lady that replenished the breakfast items was kind and kept everything neat and clean. Theresa—Marco and Guiseppe’s mother took care of the rooms most of the time along with her daughter. Upon our arrival—Guiseppe took our passports to register us and told us that when we were ready (as we were extremely tired)—to come to the desk and he would supply information about restaurants, shopping etc. The hotel is very safe. The rooms are on the 2nd floor—there is an elevator for luggage. Marco was kind enough to help us. The room key is returned to the desk when leaving and to get back into the building you ring the doorbell and they will buzz you in. Your key is waiting for you at the desk. Guiseppe recommended restaurants to us (many of which the “locals” eat at). San Marcos is by far the best. We went there on our first night and our last. The wait staff is pleasant (which was something that other restaurants should pick up on) and the prices couldn’t be beat. Do all you can to avoid Ciao Bella Restaurant on the Via Veneto. They are scammers—look them up on Trip Advisor. Every negative thing you read is true. Americans—be prepared to pay for water, bread (even if you don’t want it) and learn that with the high prices—tipping is not necessary and is basically included. People from Italy do not tip. Best advice for you—Get the Rick Steve’s book for Rome and use it as your Bible. Do not expect a warm welcome from many people (other than your “hotel family”) and don’t bother saying “excuse me” to anyone as you will never hear that phrase muttered by anyone else. But this is about the Golden Hotel—if I were to visit Rome again (which I will not)—I would stay here. Please e-mail me with any questions. I will be happy to answer.

Our stay at the Hotel Golden in Rome was fabulous. Located right outside the Borghese Gardens in Northern Rome, the hotel is perfectly situated. All the rooms had soundproof doors and windows so we didn't hear any noise from the street. All the rooms are well appointed and very clean and spacious (by Rome standards). We stayed in the new 2-bedroom suite, which was much larger and more newly decorated than the other rooms. A little more modern. There is an elevator at the Hotel, which really helps if you have a lot of bags. The Hotel staff--Marco & Guiseppe--were terrific and spoke fantastic English. They answered all our questions and were extremely helpful in assisting us in getting around to sights, finding restaurants, calling cabs etc. They were just like our extended family and made us feel most welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Could not fault them at all. Breakfast was served in the small dining area, but was much better than just a basic continental - eggs, cereal, juice, pastries, fruit, cold meats and cheese. Everything was fresh and replenished frequently. All the major sights (Colosseum etc) were a short cab ride away, or walkable. We made it to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain in under 10 mins walking - the Hotel provides a great map. Hotel also provides free WiFi connection to all guests (throughout the Hotel), and has an internet point at the front desk as well. All in all, this Hotel was great value and the customer service top notch. If you want a memorable experience in Rome, stay with the Hotel Golden...Via Marche 84.
