“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed 28 June 2010

We returned last week from a most enjoyable stay at Hotel Golden. We had booked for one week and when we arrived we were most delighted to hear that we had been upgraded from a 'classic double' room to a 'superior' room. Very much appreciated. We overlooked the Aurelian wall and the bust of General Belasario. The hotel is run by a lovely famly and brothers Gieseppe and Marco and extremely helpfull with all questions relating to directions, transport, where to eat etc.Our room was kept spotless and towels replaced dailly. The hotel is in a very good area of Rome, close to Via Veneto, and it is very secure. Most historical sites are within walking distance, perhaps with the exception of the Vatican City. The continental breakfast was more than adequate and as we had an early flight home, Mum supplied us with juice, fruit and yogurt. Very much appreciated.
Overall a great stay with no complaints what so ever.Keep up the good work, and certainly one to be recommended to others.

Hotel Golden has a very convenient location - almost on Via Venito near the Villa Borghese. There is a taxi stand round the corner & the train station - Roma Termini - is not too far - about 15 Euro by taxi.
The owners/hosts are very helpful & friendly. They helped us with our baggage during check-in and check-out and, on check-in, we were given a map of Rome with suggestions and tips for sight-seeing and dining.
We could not get a family room which I was told is larger. We were 4 of us (2 adults + 2 children) in 1 room which was a little tight.
The breakfast was ok and the internet access on the lap-top at the reception was most convenient.
We had booked tickets for a football match on-line. The tickets were delivered at the hotel before we arrived and the hotel had carefully kept them for us till we arrived and checked-in.

The Hotel Golden is well situated near the Borghese Park near the center of Rome. You can reach most monuments and sights by foot if you like. The rooms are small however offer everything you need. The breakfast was more than Italian less than American I would say. It is served in a quite small backroom with no windows. For a fast Café and a Biscotti fine – but no welcoming breakfast/brunch area at all. The owner is very nice and helpful. All together a decent place to stay. Considering the price I would have expected more.

We have just returned from 5 nights at this hotel. The reviews really do reflect the hotel.

The overriding impression we were left with was the helpfulness of the staff. The pick-ups they arranged from and to the airport went without a hitch with drivers who gave us a history lesson as we came into Rome and did not even expect a tip. It was the best transfer we have ever had. The brothers could not have been more helpful with help with directions, bookings, general advice, in fact anything. It is not often that we have received that kind of help from a hotel.
We had a small double room. And it was small. However we knew that before we went and as not much time was spent in the room it is not an issue. However if you do intend to spend time in the room in the evenings then go for a larger room. Saying that, it was kept immaculately clean and the double glazing was 100% perfect at removing any street noise. Aircon was much needed as it was hot in Rome! The breakfast room was small but we always got a table. After 5 days of the same breakfast though we got a little tired of it. Some variety would have been nice.
The hotel is near enough to walk everywhere, but if you are not great at walking the further sites such as the Vatican are reached fairly easily by Metro. It was never a problem for us.
As other reviews mention the San Marco restaurant is just fantastic - so much so we ate there every night. The menu is varied enough for that. Also opposite the hotel is Cafe Lotti, a great family run deli with tables outside. Great for a coffee or a glass of wine. Just to highlight the differences in prices in Rome a cappuccino here was 2.5 euros sitting outside. 1 minute walk away on the Via Venetto at Harry's Bar it was 10 euros!!
All in all a great hotel in a great location with seriously helpful staff.

We chose the Hotel Golden through Tripadvisor and felt lucky to be there - we loved it. The location is not central Rome but many of the main tourist sites are in walkable distance and the lovely Borghese Garden is a block away. The area is quiet but not dead - there are many good restaurants nearby and, best of all, we always felt safe in the neighborhood. A busy restaurant (complete with accordion player) was just across from our room but our excellent soundproof window shut out any noise. This, combined with a comfortable mattress and pillows, made for five sleep-filled nights - after all the walking we did, this was welcome. The room was quite small but comfortable; the bathroom was kept spotless by the staff, and clean towels appeared every day. We were very happy with breakfast which was excellent - always a good fresh variety of meats, cheeses, breads, fruit, cold cereal, etc. What really sets the Golden apart is the service - and makes this hotel a great value! Marco and Giuseppe were SO helpful, spent time answering every question (in excellent English, BTW), recommended tours and restaurants, had the weather forecast every morning (it was rainy so this was important in planning our days) and told us specifically which buses and trains to use. Their generous advice made a big difference in our experience of Rome and we are forever grateful. If you want room service, a hotel restaurant, or corporate desk staff, this hotel is not for you. However, the warmth, friendliness and knowledge of Rome exhibited here made us wish we could stay longer - they were happy to arrange transport from the airport (40 EU), tour bookings, museum reservations, etc. It reminded us of the family-run pensiones of days gone by; the kind of place that figures into your memories of the city and makes you want to come back. Hopefully, we'll get to stay at the Golden again soon!

This is a great place to stay in Rome. They give you information on the lay of the land and how to access wherever you wish to go. The metro is easy to access, an entrance only a block away but a walk to the actual train. You can walk to most all of Rome, but may not be easy if you don't like walking. Hotel Golden provides all the basics, toiletries, hair dryer, breakfast which includes cereal, yogurt , pastries and coffee/tea. You leave keys at the desk when you leave your room and they keep them for you. The building is secure with a buzzer system. I wouldn't use the safe as anyone with access to the room could pick it up and walk off with it. It was nice and quiet for sleeping as the neighborhood is not too loud. I would stay here again. If you like to be right where the action is as well as the noise that goes with that, this is not the place for you. There is a computer available with internet access if need be. We also got internet access in our room for a blackberry.

My sister and I stayed at Hotel Golden in Rome for 4 days, and recomend this hotel.
It is dificult to find good hotels in Rome for a reasonable price, and in a good location.
The Hotel Golden is very clean, the rooms are very spacious, the bath room is very nice, the rooms are quiet because the windows are soundproof and the breakfast is very nice.
The family that runs the hotel live there and take care of every detail. Giuseppe is very helpful, he told us about everything, how to go to the places, what bus or metro take, the restaurants.
The hotel is one block from Via Veneto, from Vila Borghese, can walk to Piazza de Spagna. There is a restaurant very good near the hotel called S. Marco.
We love stay at Hotel Golden, I make the reservation based on the reviews I read at Trip Advisor, and they are really true.
