I've just returned from a three night stay at the Piram Hotel. When I initially looked at the reviews on TA I was filled with dread. However, I didn't find anything that was as bad as people had mentioned. The menu for the hotel was strange, fish and vegetables, however, if you asked for something different they were more than accommodating. I asked for Chicken and it was no problem for them to do this. Breakfasts were very nice.
Our room was lovely, view not so good overlooking back of hotel next door but I wasn't there for the view from my room. There was three of us in the room and there was more than enough space for us all, and all our paraphernalia. Beds reasonably comfortable. One of us slept on the bed settee which was more that suitable.
You could walk to the Coliseum in about 20 mins from the hotel and about 30 mins to the Trevi Fountain. We took the open top bus tour to see the other sites as there just wasn't enough time to do them all. We unfortunately chose one of the busiest times to visit Rome. Herded like cattle everywhere when viewing the various monuments. In the previous two days to our visit the Vatican had had 60,000 people viewing it, our Guide had never seen anything like it. However you can't legislate for that. WATCH OUT for taxis outside the Vatican. Cost us 9 Euros to get there and first price we were quoted to get back was 38 Euros!!! eventually got it for 15 Euros. Don't accept the first price, keep walking until you get what you want.
Bar staff in the hotel were lovely, recognised us when we went in and always talked to us.
One thing strange, when you go in the normal lift, it advertises nights when the piano player is in the bar, we went down to listen to him only to be told that was last year! Why put the notice on in the lift every night? Spa also wasn't open so can't comment on that.
I would recommend this hotel, especially loved the old fashioned lift :-)
