Asked the front desk they said it's their policy. On day 1 one guy said "what did you do to the radiator". Sure I did not touch anything. it is just cold and no heating in the room. They've also taken the remote away for the air con.
On day 2 another guy said every room in Rome does not have 24-hour heating, which is untrue since I stayed in another budget hotel the previous weekend where heating is always on and air con also works.
BTW, rooms are really small. Bed is just a foldable sofa with another layer under the bed. So it is very small as well.

Room Tip: Be careful if you go in cold days.

I'm a bit late writing this as we stayed here for 5 days in September 2011...but here are our overall thoughts on Hotel Silla: This hotel is in a great location and from here we walked to most of the major sights in Rome. The places we used public transport to get to were the Colloseum, Spanish Steps and Villa Borgesse... but other than that we walked everywhere, and St Peter's is just a short stroll away, so it was lovely to go there at night and see the square and Bscillica lit up.
It's good that there is a metro stop so nearby.
As per other reviews that I read, our room was clean but basic and there was no view so it was a bit gloomy, but it was well located and well priced for Rome, and we went there to see the sights not to sit in the room - so we weren't unhappy with it. The towels were thin material - but that was fine because it was so warm that was all that was needed.
A couple of times we bought prosecco from the reception that the staff brought to the room for us & we were happy with this.
We found the reception staff friendly and helpful.
Within easy walking distance of the hotel are several 'local' Italian restaurants and coffee shops that have a nice authentic feel and aren't too touristy - we liked that - we turned right out of the hotel to find these. As per other reviews there is no restaurant at this hotel, so no breakfast, but there is a bakery very close.
This isn't a romantic place to stay, but it is practical, affordable and well located in a beautiful city.
Our tip would be to get a taxi from the airport to the hotel, on the way there we travelled by train and with our cases it was a long, hot, arduous journey (with lots of walking between trains); then we found out that a taxi would have been roughly the same cost for us both - so that's what we did on the return journey and it was far more relaxed!

We spent two nights at Hotel Silla at September 2012.
Good location, good restaurants nearby, taxi from Ciampino 30e, very friendly staff. Manager speaks good english.
Room was a bit "gloomy" but clean. A/C costs 10e extra.
Everything ok, 2-3 stars from me. A bit overpriced but good location and friendly staff makes it positive.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in August. It was pretty easy to find and in a good location to the Vatican. The rooms were just big enough for us and our 1year old, but they wouldn't provide us with a cot unless we paid extra. Apparently this was the norm in Rome, but we were really disappointed that they were also trying to charge us 10Euros a day for the air conditioning, and it was about 36degrees! I would have thought that was a basic human right!
The guys at the desk were not very helpful when asked about these charges and they kept referring everything to the manager, who never turned up.

We needed some boiling hot water for our baby and one of the receptionists was so concerned about possibly getting water on his desk that he made me hold the bottle while he poured water into it. Surprise surprise, at one time, he missed the bottle and burnt my hand!

All in all, we had a terrible time in Rome even with it's beautiful buildings and history, and it was because of the memories from the Hotel Silla. Shame.

Hotel Silla came highly recommended by our chiropractor. It is within walking distance of The Vatican, Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo and much shopping on via DiRienzo. The subway is at the corner and the best gelatteria is at via Marc Antonia Colonna which is blocks away and pasticeria Palmieri is on the bottom floor of the hotel. The owners were extremely attentive to our needs. Carla and Nunzio went beyond and searched out a hotel for us as we headed towards Sorrento. We will look no further on our next visit to Rome.

Thought it might be a bit more upscale than it's 2 star rating due to the website. It wasn't. Couple who owns it are very nice and on hand at all times. All staff was fantastic and pleasant. The rooms are bare and tiny. Must pay 5 euro per night for A/C. A bit noisy in the morning, as the building has a working bakery downstairs and courtyard is theirs. However, for location, you really can't beat it. 15 steps from the Ottaviano Metro stop (2 stops later you are in Piazza del Popolo) 4 blocks from St. Peter's Square, 6 blocks from Museum entrance. Great restaurants in every direction (it is Italy...). Note: Airport shuttle is not included, costs 55 euro. Website made it seem otherwise.
