“Worst Hostel ever”

The hostel is very dodgy. It is not clean. There were only 3 lockers in a 9 bed room. The showers didn´t work properly. The breakfirst was not good either. One girl got sick from the food and told the staff and they said is not possible, they have the best food ever. Everything is clean and fresh. But I saw old food in a closed with the plates. Disgusting.
And the worst: there are BED BUGS!! Would never go there again.

This place is pretty dodgy. All beds in one dorm, no locks on anything. The shower was awful. The people staying there were really nice thank god but the owner was there all the time and was a weird old guy and yelled at us for making any noise. The only reason I wasn't scared to stay here was because we ran into some friends, safety in numbers.

Look out is from 11 to 4 that is horrible you can't be in the hostel during this time. They tell you its a great party spot but you have to be out by 11. It's also loud and they will let anyone stay there even if they are not youth, we had a mom and her college daughter in our room the last night there. The kitchen is poor, the stove is hard to use. Free internet but only till about 23:30. There is only WiFi in the reception area and it closes so you have to use your computer in the hall way if you want to check your email or skype at night. There are no lockers or locks on any of the room doors. Security is an absolute zero. To get in you just have to give any name at the buzzer and they will let you up. Also there didn't seem to be to much information about the city at the hostel. Other places I have stayed had walking tours and things posted all around but not at happy days. The showers were ice cold, I had to basically sponge bathe my self.

I booked this hostel in February, and when I wanted to make a change it took me a month to receive confirmation, after phoning and resending the email EVERY DAY.
When I arrived there was no place left and the change had not been made! Nevertheless, the receptionist gave me his bed.

Although the hostel is decent: you get what you pay for, there was loud music coming from the recpetion till very late at night, and the lack of curfew meant that my dorm-mates came and went all night long.

I recommend it for its low prices, young vibrant atmosphere, free internet access and free use of the kitchen, as well as it's location between the metro and the Vatican.

We did a reservation weeks before the trip. They sent us a confirmation and everything was alright. When we arrived at the hostel, the guy told us there had been a problem with our reservation, claiming it was not his but the manager fault, who did two reservations for the same beds, and now (it was like 9 p.m.) all the rooms were full. He took all the guilt from him and gave us 20€ for two taxis, to take us to some other (and awful) hostel, in the other side of the city.

First of all the hostel is hard to find, because there's only a huge door with a lot of bells, so you have to search the right one.

The "room" was very small with only a bunk bed, so nothing for young couples as we are. You have no key for the room and we also get no lockers for the small boxes inside the room, because it was broken. We did not sleep on the bed above because we were afraid that it would break...

The bathroom - awful! No warm water... dirty showers...everything dirty and small. Did not shower for 5 days, so today I was really really happy to leave this hostel.

Only nice thing... very near to Vatican and St. Peter's.

Stayed in Happy Days for three nights and by the first morning I was looking to leave. The place was infested with bed bugs and we all woke up covered in bites. We asked to be changed rooms (which turned out to be no better in the end) and left our own duvet covers behind as we feared they would infest the rest of the stuff in the rucksack. On the last night there, I was disgusted to find that our own personal covers had been handed out to the new people in the room!! The sheets and our cover were left in the room until the morning the new people arrived so they couldn't have washed them before handing them out again.
Also the showers were poor, on our last morning there was absoloutely no hot water all morning. We were warned when we were arrived that if you had too long a shower the room would flood and the water would even go through te floor and start dripping into the room on the floor below!!!
Overall it was really sad that the place was so dirty because it was a good location and the staff were friendly. But after three weeks of travelling it was upsetting to find such poor quality. We had stayed in much cheaper hostels that were beautifully clean so don't really understand what the issue was in Happy Days. It really ruined our first day in rome and we spent the day scratching and dreading going back to the hostel. If we'd had enough money left we would have moved!! Definitely wouldn't recommend this place!!
