“Great Hotel, Terrific Location”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

We spend 7 nights and agree with most of the previous reviewers that the staff is fantastic... Beginning with Hildur at the Front Desk, the staff in the breakfast room and the housekeeping staff, all were professional and enhanced our enjoyment of this charming, small hotel. We were in room 201 and based on our look at other rooms... the upgrade from deluxe to executive room is a definite benefit. The breakfast was fresh and enjoyable... with a selection of meats, cheeses, pastries, fruit... and made-to-order eggs if you wish. Likewise the evening cocktail hour had great hors d'oeuvres in a nice setting indoors or out.
The location is steps away from the forum, the colosseum and most of the key sites in Rome. We've stayed at much larger, chain hotels in Rome and found the Inn at the Roman Forum to be much more personal, quiet and enjoyable.

Room Tip: choose an executive room vs. deluxe

We stayed for four nights in room 103 represented to be a delux room. The room was very small and cramped. The one window looked out a stair case and wall which meant there was virtually no natural light. We had to leave most of our cloths in our suitcases and the suitcases on the floor of the room as there was no place to put them and only a small closet to hang or store clothes. We spent as little time as possible in the room as it was claustrophobic. The staff was wonderful and the location great. It would be okay for one night but not four!

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 103

Dear guest,

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Obviously delighted that you enjoyed the location and the staff but sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the room assigned. If you had let us know during your stay I am sure we could have found a suitable solution. You stayed in a Deluxe room, with regular closet space and as I have answered also to other comments the one of the main characteristics of our property is its location, just five minutes walk to Colosseum, hosting an intriguing ancient Roman frescoed underground passageway on the ground floor of the structure and with most of its streets in the district altered or rebuilt in the late 19th century, yet having maintained many interesting relics, make our building structure combine with its historical value.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future and don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Best regards
Hildur

We booked this hotel as others we had thought we preferred were full. This hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotel affiliation which I have grown to trust. We staying in rooms 201 and 101, executive rooms. These were large upgraded rooms with a huge bed, sofa, flat panel TV, bathroom with a small Jacuzzi, etc. I took pictures of the room, which I rarely do as I was so impressed.

The hotel is walking distance to the Forum and nearby attractions, such as the Roman Coliseum,
and the Capital Museum. Best to take a taxi, about 10 Euros, to the Spanish Steps and attractions nearby there.

Room Tip: Rooms 201 and 101 were great...on the street side, but it is a small quiet area.

Our great experience at this hotel started even before we arrived in Rome. I booked via Hotmail, and when I found out the hotel I had booked I was very pleased - a small boutique style hotel rather than one of the larger 5* chains we usually stay at.
The week before arrival I requested information from the hotel about airport transportation. They offered a collect service for 60 euros, and as expected, the driver was there, name board in hand, waiting in arrivals for us. A lovely Mercedes whisked us to the hotel in 30 minutes. The driver fee is paid to the hotel in cash. All communication was via email with immediate response each time.
The hotel is tucked away, and even when we parked outside, it was not at all obvious that it was a hotel at all. The hotel backs onto Augustus's Forum - so geographically speaking - ten to fifteen minutes from the Colliseum, Trevi, Pantheon, Spanish Steps all on foot.
We were met at reception by the wonderful Hildur, an Icelandic lady just back from her maternity leave. She was friendly and helpful, and answered all our questions about tours and local restaurants. We were treated to a free cocktail whilst we registered.
The hotel only has about a dozen rooms, so the service we received was really customer focussed. Our room was ready straight away and we were really pleased with it. The bed was extremely firm and comfortable, and the hotel was hushed and quiet with no road noise at all.
Breakfast comes as part of the room price, and this too was a delight. It is served on the top floor either indoors or on the roof terrace. We were blessed with very hot September weather, so breakfasted on the terrace each day with our fellow guests from Australia and Charlotte USA.
Our hostess for the three days of our stay was Valentina, a very friendly Russian lady with almost perfect English. She works incredibly hard to keep the breakfast service running smoothly and still has the time to stop and chat to all her guests.
Hildur helped us out with booking our Colisseum trip, as we had to use the reception's computer and printer to get the vouchers - but nothing we requested ever seemed to be a problem.
When we checked out, I ordered the cab service again. This time it was 55 euros (I assume it is because on the inward journey there is a wait time for the driver). Again - payment in cash to the hotel. One thing to be aware of is that there is a government tax of 2 euros per person per night to be paid in cash upon checkout. This was explained up front - so be sure to keep some euros back for the end of the trip.
We checked out at 10.00am (its usually 12) and we were allowed to leave our packed bags in the room. When we returned to the hotel at 5.00pm after another day around the city - the Mercedes was outside the hotel with our bags safely stowed in the boot.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Inn at the Forum. Wonderful rooms, fantastic service - and Hildur and Valentina are delightful.

Room Tip: We were in 303 - and perfect for us.

We stayed here at the end of our 20th Anniversary trip to Italy. We have stayed in Rome on numerous occasions, but not in this area. The location is great for looking exploring the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. It was also a half hour or so easy walk (this does include some window shopping along the way), to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain etc. We enjoyed our room and it was nicely decorated/appointed. I do have to agree with a previous reviewer the bathtub/shower area did have some mold. The staff was very polite and friendly. Adjacent to the hotel through a door behind the receptionists desk are ruins from 50 BC, which were very cool. In the morning they have a good breakfast buffet and at night a nice buffet of appetizers for guests. It was nice to enjoy breakfast on the terrace in the morning, and a Prosecco at night on the terrace as well.

Stayed at the Inn at the roman forum. Good: staff friendliness, room size (superior room), breakfast and location.
Bad: crammed hotel with very little to no space. View from the superior room onto staircase one meter in front of window with natural lights 3 stories above. Zero space in hotel and the only place with natural light is on the roof terrace.
I expect a certain standard (not size but quality) when staying at small luxury hotels of the world as I have experienced in many other cities.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the review and your comments. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the room and I will pass on those positive comments to the team.

I would like to point out that our structure is located in the Monti neighborhood, that is a part of the seven hills of Rome and is a particularly hilly district. As the one of the main characteristics of our property is its location, just five minutes walk to Colosseum, hosting an intriguing ancient Roman frescoed underground passageway on the ground floor of the structure and with most of its streets in the district altered or rebuilt in the late 19th century, yet having maintained many interesting relics, make our building structure combine with its historical value. This has usually impressed our guest as the building has been renovated and rebuilt with modern facilities, with top floor were guest can enjoy lovely views of Capitoline Hill, a roof terrace, an ambient lounge and a private roof garden.

If we can be of any further assistant, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn at the Roman Forum. The location is fantastic, and a 5 minute walk to the Coliseum/Forum.

We did love the room & the bath amenities. There was some mold in the bath, along with super dirty walls alongside the bed....so, some work needs to be done there. The room was terribly hot during the day, and we had our air conditioning up all the way.

The breakfast is amazing & great eggs and cappuccinos. Make sure to include the breakfast in your room rate. We thought our breakfast was included & it was not.

The rooftop was pleasant, and we enjoyed some wine the first night there.

Service, was good but a little hit and miss. For example, we asked for a good restaurant recommendation...the gentleman told us that during 2-4 all restaurants were closed. He recommended a shop where we could get a sandwich. We found over 15 restaurants in close walking distance that were open, so we would have appreciated a great restaurant recommendation. Maybe it was the language barrier? In addition, we booked Sistine Chapel tickets to have a "reservation". Not necessary....there was no "separate" line & we paid more than anyone else that went to the Sistine Chapel that day.

All in all, we did have a great time...but there were little things that could have made our stay a "5".

Thanks for taking the time to write your review of your stay with us. My team and I will be delighted to read that you enjoyed your visit with us. I apologize for the misunderstanding you had with our front desk regarding restaurants, but many restaurant in fact close during 15:30-18 pm. Rome can be crowed and therefore sometimes it’s recommended booking tickets in head of time for the main tourist attraction, but this don’t always apply specially during the warmer season.

Looking forward to welcoming you back again.
