“Lovely Hotel Spotlessly Clean”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

Stayed in Hotel Diocleziano on mini break recently with my wife we always wanted to visit Rome and wanted to enjoy our experience along with convenience and access to all that Rome has to offer. Well the Hotel Diocleziano is just the place and good value for money. Staff are one of its best assets, always friendly courteous and obliging. The hotel itself is spanking clean.
lovely BREAKFAST a good selection of cereals, fresh orange juice, boiled eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, small sausage (personally these were not to my taste), cold meats, cheese, fresh & tinned fruit, breads (inc. toast), pastries, tea coffee etc. etc.
ROOM was a reasonable size (not huge), lovely bath\shower room some toiletries provided but probably best some as well, Mini bar with 1 still water; 1 carbonated water; 1 Coke; 1 Fanta; and carton of yogurt (I think) ALL free and replenished every day – a very nice touch - Tea coffee making facilities - Room is cleaned every day – fully controllable Air-conditioning available – Free WiFi with good service, TV, a gym is available if you are the energetic type although after walking around Rome for a few hours you might change your mind!. There is a little store on the corner 30ft away from entrance where you can purchase some milk for example if needed for a nice cuppa ‘rosie-lee’ (tea!).
The BED is medium orthopaedic and we found very comfortable, slept very well indeed, good sleep quality. We had two good sizes single beds close together this wasn’t a problem to moan about. We had no noise problems whatsoever.
The hotel is LOCATED literally across the road from the Termini main train station which is also where all the hop-on-hop-off bus companies are located. All Very very convenient for getting around Rome’s many must see sites, we opted for the Hotel recommended Green Line Tours for €31 P/P for 48hrs pass. The ticket activated when you first use the Bus; I recommend at least 48hrs pass because there is no way you will cover all there is to see in Rome in one day, the pass lasts exactly 248hrs from validation. Walking would take about 15-20 minutes to the centre of Rome, it's a nice pleasant walk.
In getting from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport we took advantage of a special Hotel offer for airport transfer of €105 (return) we had 3 bags & we were met at arrivals and taken direct to Hotel. If you intend to get the Fumanchino airport express train to Rome it would be €11 p/p each way total @ €44 add in a 10-15 walk each end; Airport-Train-Hotel & Vise-Versa & baggage transfer… very doable if watching the €’s …. Personally in making our choice we wanted some comfort and less ‘trucking’ about as we would be on the move from 4am outward bound.
Final word based on comments about location all most All the hotels in the centre of Rome are ‘Basically’ located between the Termini and River, no disrespect intended but there is a big volume of street sellers/beggers/homless/pick-pockets (keep your wallet in a front pocket) etc. but no less than you would find elsewhere.
Rome is a Tourist City for Tourists, a much see City in Europe and very very popular, hence it attracts all sorts, so precaution is always a good thing in any City, and always be aware of your surroundings.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I do Recommend this Hotel.

I Recommend the La Famiglia restaurant, as you leave the hotel it is 50 meters to the left on the far side of the cross roads, good food good value, very convenient after a long day.
Over the next few days I will add a separate review for this and reviews of the sites we visited.

For its reasonable price this is a nice hotel. Nice clean rooms, friendly helpful staff. Breakfast is good with fresh coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice served every morning.

If i was coming to rome on buisiness and wanted to be near thw central station area this would be a fair choice. However for tourists the location could be 1-2km closer to the main areas. That said being close to termini its easy to catch the metro etc. though generally I prefer to be located closer to the main attractions.

We booked a hotel near termini to be closer to my parents hotel since they had already booked. Having visited theirs I am so glad we booked diocleziano . Staff were very friendly and bar was inexpensive and welcoming after a day out. We stayed in a superior room on 4th floor at back of hotel. Not a great view but my husband found the lady hanging her washing out very amusing. Bathroom very clean and huge jacuzzi bath soothed the weary legs. Always plenty of hot water unlike my parents hotel. One issue was the bath gel - couldn't even get it out of the bottle ! Hair dryer was a bit slow too do would take my own next time. All in all excellent stay and would recommend.

Dearest Guests,

Thank you so much for glowing review! We are glad that you have enjoyed your time with us and that you have even experience a very “original” Roman feature as the next door lady hanging the washing! :)

It’s always with great satisfaction that we read our Guests’ reviews; this is our chance to learn directly from you your preferences and needs. However, it is also very important to us to be able to satisfy you in every possible way, therefore we are always available for any particular request or help needed while at the Hotel.

In your case we are only sorry that we did not learn in time the difficulties that you have encountered both with the bath gel and hairdryer. As for the first, we are pretty sure that it must have been a production fault since by checking other packaging the gel did flow normally. We are sorry that you did not mention this to us; it would have been very easy to change the bottle immediately for you. As for the hairdryer, we have supplied our rooms with the most commonly used in hotels which, for security reasons, tend to be less powerful in order to avoid overheating. Again, having known about your preference for a more powerful one, it would have been our care to find a solution for you.

Said this, it was a pleasure to learn about your experience with us and we do hope to have you - and your parents – back again to as our Guests.

We could not have asked for a better location or more helpful staff. They were there for all of our issues, from listening to our room query (completely the fault of our travel agent), to recommending a splendid restaurant, to accommodating a late check out at late notice and helping with bookings.
The rooms were airy, clean, spacious and comfortable, and all within less than 5 minutes walk from the Termini.
My recommendation is to use the Metro and not be tempted to walk between every one of the hundreds of noteworthy sites and attractions. But this is easier said than done when you have a clear, mild night at the end of October and there is something wonderful around every corner.

Room Tip: If you want the VIP room with the terrace be very specific with your travel agent. We were misinform...

We were not sure the best place to stay while we were in Rome for 3 days, but this hotel by far was the BEST choice we made. The staff made you feel welcome and were attentive to our needs. It is within walking distance of the train station (1 block) and to the bus stop (1 1/2 blocks). Breakfast was awesome and fresh daily :). The hotel itself was clean, quiet, friendly staff, room was spacious. Even though it was a bit higher priced than some, it is well worth every Euro we spent. We highly recommend this hotel and give it 5 stars!!

Room Tip: Any room would be great!

We stayed just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and would happily stay here again. As soon as we pulled up outside someone came to help us with our luggage. We arrived earlier than the check in time but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to make up the room. We stayed on room 408 at the back of the hotel which was great, no noise on a night. Room was a little small for 3 people but we don't usually spend that much time in the room so didn't find this a problem. Bathroom was a good size and free minibar with soft drinks and water was a bonus. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. Bar in the hotel reasonably priced and there is a small area away from the bar with a TV and computers if you don't want to sit at the bar. The hotel is a short walk from the train station and if you are returning late on a night then yes there are a few groups hanging around as you walk back to the hotel but don't most cities have this and we never saw any near the hotel.. We would stay here again should we return to Rome.
A tip is to take your water from the fridge in the morning as Rome has many water fountains were you can refill your water bottle during the day as you are walking about.

Room Tip: Try get a room at the back of the hotel were its quiet

We loved that it was close to the Termini train station and yet it was tucked in a little side street away from the hustle-bustle of Rome. We arrived in Rome from Florence by way of the train conveniently and easily but were excited to find the hotel to be quiet, comfortable, and have clean spacious rooms. We walked to a lot of the sites in Rome such as the Colosseum(about a 15 minute walk) but were close to the metro when we went to the Vatican Museum. This would be a distant walk from the hotel, but public transportation like the metro or taxis were readily available. We'd definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it!
