Stayed in Hotel Diocleziano on mini break recently with my wife we always wanted to visit Rome and wanted to enjoy our experience along with convenience and access to all that Rome has to offer. Well the Hotel Diocleziano is just the place and good value for money. Staff are one of its best assets, always friendly courteous and obliging. The hotel itself is spanking clean.
lovely BREAKFAST a good selection of cereals, fresh orange juice, boiled eggs, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, small sausage (personally these were not to my taste), cold meats, cheese, fresh & tinned fruit, breads (inc. toast), pastries, tea coffee etc. etc.
ROOM was a reasonable size (not huge), lovely bath\shower room some toiletries provided but probably best some as well, Mini bar with 1 still water; 1 carbonated water; 1 Coke; 1 Fanta; and carton of yogurt (I think) ALL free and replenished every day – a very nice touch - Tea coffee making facilities - Room is cleaned every day – fully controllable Air-conditioning available – Free WiFi with good service, TV, a gym is available if you are the energetic type although after walking around Rome for a few hours you might change your mind!. There is a little store on the corner 30ft away from entrance where you can purchase some milk for example if needed for a nice cuppa ‘rosie-lee’ (tea!).
The BED is medium orthopaedic and we found very comfortable, slept very well indeed, good sleep quality. We had two good sizes single beds close together this wasn’t a problem to moan about. We had no noise problems whatsoever.
The hotel is LOCATED literally across the road from the Termini main train station which is also where all the hop-on-hop-off bus companies are located. All Very very convenient for getting around Rome’s many must see sites, we opted for the Hotel recommended Green Line Tours for €31 P/P for 48hrs pass. The ticket activated when you first use the Bus; I recommend at least 48hrs pass because there is no way you will cover all there is to see in Rome in one day, the pass lasts exactly 248hrs from validation. Walking would take about 15-20 minutes to the centre of Rome, it's a nice pleasant walk.
In getting from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport we took advantage of a special Hotel offer for airport transfer of €105 (return) we had 3 bags & we were met at arrivals and taken direct to Hotel. If you intend to get the Fumanchino airport express train to Rome it would be €11 p/p each way total @ €44 add in a 10-15 walk each end; Airport-Train-Hotel & Vise-Versa & baggage transfer… very doable if watching the €’s …. Personally in making our choice we wanted some comfort and less ‘trucking’ about as we would be on the move from 4am outward bound.
Final word based on comments about location all most All the hotels in the centre of Rome are ‘Basically’ located between the Termini and River, no disrespect intended but there is a big volume of street sellers/beggers/homless/pick-pockets (keep your wallet in a front pocket) etc. but no less than you would find elsewhere.
Rome is a Tourist City for Tourists, a much see City in Europe and very very popular, hence it attracts all sorts, so precaution is always a good thing in any City, and always be aware of your surroundings.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I do Recommend this Hotel.
I Recommend the La Famiglia restaurant, as you leave the hotel it is 50 meters to the left on the far side of the cross roads, good food good value, very convenient after a long day.
Over the next few days I will add a separate review for this and reviews of the sites we visited.
