“Perfect Place to stay for a short stay in Rome!”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

Just got back from a 3 night stay at the Roma De Papi, and all I can say is it is the perfect place to stay in Rome! The location is perfect, directly behind St Angels Castle. All other major sights are literally 15/20 minute walking distance, barring the colleseum. This is about 30 minutes away, but there is that much to see when you are walking to it, the walk really doesnt feel that bad! If it is a bit far though, there is a bus that picks you up from just round the corner of the hotel (no 87). This takes you there for 1 euro! The staff at the hotel are lovely, and very helpful. When we arrived the man behind reception gave us a map, and told us which places to visit, when the best times to visit them were, and other useful information. The rooms are quite small and basic, but very clean, and to be honest, you dont spend much time in them when you are spending 10 hours a day sightseeing like we were! Each room does come with a safe, and air con though, so thats good, as some places you have to pay extra for things like that. Myself and my mum also had no complaints with the breakfast, there isnt a great deal of choice, but thats to be expected with a small place. There were cereals, juices, meats, eggs, bread, pastries etc, so I was more than happy with that.

Also, dont get a taxi from the airport, as these are very expensive - 40/50 euros. We got the bus from the airport to the Termini, which was only 8 euro each, and then from the termini, we got the no 40 bus, which takes you to St Angels castle. This was only 1 euro each. The hotel is easy to find, as it is literally round the back of the castle over the road. There is a small sign to say it is the Roma De Papi.

We found the hotel very enjoyable. The room was very clean. The hotel staff were very friendly. We woke up at 10am when breakfast was suppose to be over and the young women held it for us. Breakfast area is quaint. Breakfast was enjoyable. Hotel is within several blocks of the Vatican, Vatican Museum & Sistine Chapel. We only had one day in Rome as we were heading to Naples. You really need a few days. We would highly recommend staying here and would again. You also must remember rooms are small, as most hotel rooms are in Rome.

the hotel has such a good location that in 4 days i only used the publin transportation once to go to the colosseum, because all other places you would want to see are near the hotel(10-30min away). the rooms are small but they look very good, are clean, with a small tv, a refrigerator, internet accees. the breakfast was great-you have a lot to choose from. i would go there again also for the small price of one room comparing it with other similar hotels in that area. the only bag thing is that you can hear almost everything is happening in the other rooms

I am currently using the Hotel Papi wifi: My wife and I just came back from dinner tonight and we could not enter past the street gate. It is only 9:30pm and if it was not for a patron leaving the apartment complex, we'd be stranded outside our own hotel. We rang the buzzer for the Hotel Papi repeatedly but no one buzzed us through the street gate! So we continued to press the button for the Hotel Papi and sat out on the street. Once a resident from the complex came out we entered past the street gate. Next was the locked building door. We pressed the button for the Hotel Papi again and FINALLY someone buzzed us through. When I explained all of this to the gentleman at the front desk I was treated rudely. He said he was at the desk and insisted I did not press the right buttons. I am 110% certain my wife and I pressed the correct buttons. No apology from the gentleman at the desk. Had noone come out of the complex, we would have had to check in at another hotel for the night!! Scary thought... right now we are worried that if we head out for some gelato, we'll face the same neglect and not get through the street gate. If you love an unexpected adventure, then this is the hotel for you! Just book another hotel if you plan on leaving the Hotel Papi after the street gate closes.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights.

We had no trouble finding the hotel and everything seemed fine at first sight. After staying in the room for the first night, though, that all changed. The room was noisy, due to it being only a few meters from the reception. We woke up several times each night from people being buzzed in and loud talk in the reception.

The room was very hot, although this was in March and the temperature outside wasn't that high. The AC didn't work correctly, so we could choose between either a very cold or a very hot room. The view from the window was of a back alley with little light coming through it.

I recieved information on how to connect to the wireless internet, but I couldn't see the access point at all in the room. I finally got a weak signal to another access point that I could use, but only at one very specific location in the room - everywhere else, the was no signal at all.

The room was very clean, so no complaint whatsoever in that department.

The service wasn't excellent - and it frankly seemed like some of the employees viewed guests as somewhat of a nuisance - but it was acceptable and one of the employees actually went beyond the bare minimum, providing assistance and advice.

The location of the hotel, however, is great and we could walk to pretty much everything in Rome. But I'm not planning on staying there again.

My friends and I stayed here for two nights in September and it is a dump. The room had mold on the wall- YES mold. The manager had not idea or at least played like he had no idea what mold was. The beds were like sleeping on a pew at the vatican. The best thing was the friendly staff in the AM, willing to give directions and help us with our Italian. Oh forgot to mention it took us 3 hours to find the place. It is inside and apartment building. Not even the police knew where this place was.
