We stayed at this hotel for two nights in July. It was a pleasant stay. The staff at the reception as well as at the breakfast hall were friendly and spoke English reasonably well. The breakfast spread was really good and filling. Rooms are neat and bathrooms are pretty big and clean. The hotel is about 10 minutes on foot from the train station and has pizzerias and restaurants all around. The only fault we could find with the hotel was that the elevator was really old and very slow. Most people ended up using the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator. Other than that , its a good decent hotel.

If you are arriving into Rome via rail (and even if you fly into Rome, take the Leonardo Express to Termini Roma) - this hotel is then an easy10 minutes walk.
The locality supports many 3-star hotels and a multitude of inexpensive dining establishments.
Our room was pleasantly larger than expected - the bathroom, again, was a surprise (I guess having stayed for a week in Paris where rooms are tiny by comparison influences my opinion).
Double glazed windows block most of the steet noise, the aircon works well.
Breakfast was a basic continental breaky, with sausages, bacon and scrambled eggs included - the coffee from a self-service machine was good, while the fruit juice ( also from a self-serve machine) did not impress.
I could not fault the staff; check-in was seamless; passports were returned within 15 minutes.
Housekeeping was first rate - clean sheets daily - the bath towels were enormous.
A word about WiFi. While a user name and password is provided upon check-in, what is not said is that it does not connect in your room. It is fine when sitting at reception or in the breakfast room, but otherwise - forget it !!!
While San Marco is located some distance from Rome's main attractions, this distance is negated by using the Metro, just down the street.
While a visitor is spoiled for choice in respect to dining, we settled on the café Rossi Tiziano, two minutes walk away - al fresco dining at it's best (tell Jamal I sent you).
Based on our experience on this visit, I would have no hesitation in returning to Hotel San Marco.

Stayed her for three nights with my wife and two girls, nice simple accommodation, TV in the kids room, great little breakfast (which was continually refurbished!), nice and close to the railway station for those trips to the other great places to see in Rome, and reasonably priced.

We just arrived back from Rome and I would stay at the San Marco again! Although upon our arrival, there was a problem with our room and they had to move us to another hotel for one night, they could not have been more accommodating! They called us a taxi to the next hotel, which really wasn't far away, and promised to have our luggage taken back to the San Marco the next day. When we arrived back to the San Marco, much to our surprise, we had been given a HUGE room, with a beautiful view, a free bottle of wine, a beautiful letter of apology and our luggage was in our room waiting for us! The staff was wonderful, friendly, and totally helpful with any questions we had! We had a wonderful time!

Very friendly staff worked with us to stay two extra days, plus stored our luggage for free when we asked. Excellent breakfast buffet--far superior to other hotels in Italy. Rooms were quiet and spacious. Great value.

I was looking for something close to the train station and found this hotel online. When walking there it seemed like it was an a sketchy area with a lot of loiters on the streets surrounding the hotel. We were only staying here for one night, but wish we could have found something else. The room was freezing and we were not able to change the thermostat. The room had a couch with a few stains and just felt very dingy. It was not a place we would stay again.
