“5 min walk from the vatican!”
Reviewed 16 July 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for three nights. The location is great for the vatican. It is also good for the Jewish ghetto and trastevere (20 min walk down the river)!. There are a few small restaurants nearby if you aren't looking to go far, they hit he spot. There is a bus station right behind the hotel so it is pretty easy to get a bus anywhere in town, or even the local train. It's not near a metro station though, but there is a bus that takes you directly to Termini Station (64 I think it was). We took a 15 dollar (each) private shuttle from the airport here, which was only 2-3 dollars more than the train (Leonardo express) to termini and eliminated a bus rode so its well worth it. Just ask at the info booth at the airport train staton.

The beds in the room were dated, but clean. As was the rest of the room. There was a small desk and wardrobe to hang cloths. We had to keep our bags at the side of the bed and tucked in the corner but we expected a smaller room. The bathroom was clean with a really small shower. But the water was hot with good pressure so there was no problem. I would stay here again because I prefer a nicer area over the down town traffic. I'd give it a 3.5

The breakfast had really great juice and fresh buns. After that the options were limited to sliced meat and cheese but it hit the spot and was worth staying in for if you want to save a few bucks. We ate there all three days, and it was typically busy.

It is Rome afterall so location is very important especially if your doing anything with the Vatican. This was my forth stay and will continue to return. If you want bling of a posh hotel don't choose this one. Basic needs are met with comfy basic style rooms, air con, private small bathrooms, free WiFi throughout. Quiet except maybe on a weekend night till around 11pm. Helpful staff. Great breakfast and plenty of it - they are always happy to give you more just ask. Fresh fruits to take with you. The location around 400 mtrs to the Vatican. You can see St Peters from the front door. Other major attractions nearby. Take the #64 bus from the station behind its a great cheap tour of Rome. Highly Recommended as it represents great value overall considering it is Rome.

I stayed here in a party of 14 for four days in early June and could not fault the cleanliness, breakfast choices and nearness to St Peter's. This is the best value for money I have ever had anywhere in the world! Four stars to Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci.

Four of us stayed 6 nights at this venue and were glad we chose it. The price was 480 euros for six nights plus visitors tax. Breakfasts were more than adequate, rooms were small but clean and we were happy with them. No TV but WiFi was good. So close to St. Peter's square we could see it. Lovely local restaurants close by. Friendly helpful staff. On the down side lots of pilgrims stay here and there is a lot of singing in the church attached, that you might love or might keep you up when you are trying to settle off to sleep. It is simple accommodation but perfect for our purposes and we would recommend it to anyone who is after cheep prices, central location and basic requirements.

We spent five nights at this hotel in April and we are still talking about the great find it was. The place must have been a convent in the past. It was still run like one - spotlessly clean, groups of people from Italy and abroad come to see the Pope, obviously, and everyone happy to be there. The room was large though spartanly furnished. Nothing fancy here! The bathroom was good too. One thing I would have liked is a couple of night lamps close to the bed. They had this two, large reflector-type lams on either side of the walls and about four feet from the floor, that were a nuisance at night because it meant you had to get up from the bed to turn them off, and were hard for reading. But, this was one inconvenience certainly worth overlooking when you consider this place is about a five minute walk from Saint Peter 's square and within walking distance from nice restaurants and Trastevere. There is a bus line that takes you to other historical points in Rome, so transportation was not a problem. Breakfast was excellent, they even had eggs, something we did not see anywhere else. The staff were helpful enough, though the people on the desk were not trying the hardest to be friendly. Beware of student groups traveling in April. The first night we were awaken by a loud bunch of kids in the hall, but fortunately they were gone the next day. I would definitely recommend Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci.

Im not a reviewing type person, but Casa Santa Maria is a gem that shouldnt be overlooked!

Staff is pleasant and helpful, rooms are clean with daily servicing, WiFi free/fast & in the rooms, breakfast provides plenty of choices, computer & printer available.

Location is fabulous! Train/bus station directly behind the hotel, Vatican a short walk and Basillica can be seen from the hotel entrance, restaraunts/shops/grocery short walks, and the neighborhood/hotel safe.

This IS a European hotel- dont expect American overindulgence or super-sized proportions. The beds are single and "large" people wont fit in the shower. Theres no tv or appliances. If youre willing to live European Casa Santa Maria wont disapoint!
We are planning a return trip in October for a couple weeks and will definitely be staying here!

We had previously been to Rome and we tried to book a room with a B&B where we had previously stayed. The owner said she was fully booked and recommended Casa Santa Maria alle Fornaci. Having multiple interactions with her for the past two years I trusted her opinion so we booked a room and I am glad we did. It is an excellent value and great location if you are looking to be near St. Peters Basilica. Our room was clean. While we were staying a monastery there was no curfew (most have curfews) and there was free wifi in the public areas and your room. I found the daytime staff to be friendly, we did not interact much with the night time staff. Breakfast was pretty good and included hot tea, coffee, juice, cereal, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, bread...your typical European breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
You can hear people outside and in the other rooms however it didn't bother us too much.

The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that we went straight to the booking link provided on their website and we overpaid. I would book through booking.com (after checking today they seem to have a better price) or definitely do a little bit more research in prices.

We also booked a "king" bed and we were expecting our beds to be pushed together however they were not. It was two twin bed across the room from each other and there wasn't a way to push the beds together. It wasn't a bit deal to us as we were only staying there one night before we jumped on our cruise ship.

If you are looking for a great deal on a clean room near St. Peter's and the Vatican definitely consider staying here. We were looking for an inexpensive place to lay our heads for the night and this hit the spot.
