“great location, fabulous boutique hotel”
Reviewed 21 January 2014

I went with my wife for our anniversary in November.
The hotel is located a short walk from st Peters and Piazza Navona. The Collaseum is walk-able in about 25 minutes.
the hotel has a modern interior, the room was specious and clean.
breakfast is an american style buffet, scrambled eggs, bacon on the hotplate and various cold options.
arriving late they kept the restaurant open for us. the carbonara was excellent, as was the regional wine recommended by the waitress.

the only down side is a little noise from the traffic, but its such a quiet road its hardly worth worrying about
would love to go back

We stayed in the penthouse suite which is actually two spacious separate rooms with a common entrance/hallway. This space was a nice reprieve for us as at this point we had been travelling for 3 weeks with our kids aged 10 & 12. Both rooms were perfect - not much of a view - but the rooftop lounge was just above us so it really didn't matter.
We loved the location of this hotel. We were able to walk to all the attractions (Pantheon, Vatican, etc) and great restaurants in the neighborhood.
Service at the rooftop lounge was prompt and attentive. I would definitely stay here again as the hotel exceeded our discerning expectations.
Very quiet location which is ideal after a day exploring Rome. Look forward to visiting again after the reno takes place. That being said, I didn't see the need for one!

From other reviews, I understand St George is due to close for a major refurb. It needs it. The hotel is tired and in need of some serious investment. And someone with a discerning eye to get rid of all the 80s furniture.

The lowest point is the spa. The steam room smells musty and the paint is literally peeling off the ceiling in great clumps. The sauna didn't work for the first day of our stay. The 'spa' (it's barely a bubble) pool lights don't work and what used to be a cascading fountain from the wall is now a dribble through the tiles.

In its present state, the hotel is 3/4*, nothing more. It's not cheap though. In fact, the bar/mini bar prices are offensively high. Charging 5* prices does not make a hotel 5*.

Rooms are small, but adequate. The terraces are lovely, even for a quick dose of winter sun. The smoke alarm system needs an upgrade. In our room it was above the bed. And it beeped. Every 3 seconds.

This place has bundles of potential, but in its current form it has had its day. Great location though - quaint cobbled street and in easy striking distance of everything Rome has to offer. And the staff are super - nothing is too much trouble. But don't go now - wait until it's had a much needed facelift.

We wanted to be within walking distance from all the main attractions, but not in the middle of the crowds and the St. George was just that. The only attraction that was a bit far was the Forum area, but we walked to it just the same. We enjoyed the journey to all the Roman sites. We had a room with a small balcony which was nice and found the room to be clean and comfortable. We didn't spend much time in the room, but we did find the wifi was very slow most of the time and it would drop off occasionally. We still used it, but not alot. We took the SIT bus from FCO to near the St. Angelo and walked a relatively short distance to the hotel. Dragging bags on the rough Roman roads can be challenging, but the bus was only 6 euros/person with no stops so we thought that was a much better option than our normal express train from FCO to the Termini for more than twice the price and still being two miles away. We took a taxi back to FCO (50 euros) since we had a very early flight and had to leave around 5 am. The St. George was a great experience for us and will likely be even nicer once the renovations are completed and they reopen as Hotel Indigo St. George. We look forward to coming back one day to give it a try.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 507 and enjoyed the balcony very much.

We just returned from Rome with our three adult sons. We all agreed that for our tastes, this is a near-perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional beauty. The St. George has a unique location, on a charming, cobblestone street, Via Guilia. It’s a quiet corner in the center of Rome, easy walking distance to the Campo Di Fiori, Piazza Navona, the Vatican and the Castel St. Angelo. In fact, if you like to walk, bring good walking shoes (those cobblestones can be tricky) and you can get almost anywhere in Rome from here.
We enjoy great hotels, but not necessarily the formality and attitude that so often comes with them. The St. George has a lot of class, yet you don’t have to feel self-conscious about being casual. This was the kind of 5-star experience that we prefer—all the amenities, friendly and welcoming, without being smothering or pretentious.
We loved the look of the St. George, and unlike a recent reviewer, didn’t find it to be “run down” in the least. According to the website, however, it will be renovated to reopen as the Hotel Indigo Rome. Judging from the pictures, it will have a more colorful, trendier look. Let’s hope they don’t go too trendy. The travertine walls and floors of the present decor make the hotel feel clean and modern, yet very Roman.
The bathrooms are pretty and immaculate. There is an indoor restaurant and bar area and in the warmer months a rooftop lounge and restaurant with gorgeous views. The fitness center and spa are small, but nice. Breakfast and WIFI were included in our rate, so although the prices are not cheap, we didn’t feel nickel-and-dimed, (although the WIFI was spotty). Special deals are available if you’re willing to commit to a no cancellation policy.
Anthony and his staff were courteous and helpful, flexible about our check-in time and happy to hold our luggage when we spent a few days traveling. A restaurant recommendation wasn’t the best, but we probably weren’t clear about what we were looking for. At breakfast, Diana was particularly gracious and attentive.
We loved the St. George and hope to visit again when it becomes the Indigo Rome.

Room Tip: The Junior Suite was beautiful, equipped with sitting room, coffee maker, safe, etc.

Cute boutique hotel in a very pleasant, quiet neighborhood in the centre of Rome between St Peter and Campo Dei Fiori.

The place is nice but a bit run down, however we do not want to hold this against them since they will undergo renovation starting January 2014.

The check-in was less than pleasant since they appeared to have misplaced our reservation. The staff was not very elegant about this and kept repeating that check-in time was 3.15 p.m. and that we had no right to have a room before that (that was at 2.30 p.m., when we arrived, the place being half empty). No apology for the mixup, and our bags were not in our room when we arrived much later, around 6 p.m., from an extended walk. Not the service we expected, and definitely not a warm welcome.

The room was pleasant, with a nice balcony (you should book a de luxe double, it is worth the extra price). Wifi was not working (80% of the time) or extremely slow (the remaining 20%). The spa is one room so don't expect too much.

Altogether I give this hotel a three star rating which is so consistent with what it should be rated in my opinion - this is NOT a five star hotel, sorry. It is a three star boutique hotel with a certain charm and excellent location. The only thing that is five star about it are the room prices. Therefore, no real recommendation from me, but one will have to have another look after the renovation is completed.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding your recent stay with us, we note that your experience was not to positive even if you appreciated our location.

The rebranding of the hotel does not justify the fact that our staff did not comply with your request and for that I do apologize I will look into the matter with my front office manager to make sure that similar episodes do not repeat in the future.
Any way I will be very delightful if you give us another chance and also to see our new brand hotel.

I elected to spend my last three nights of a five week vacation throughout southern Italy indulged in a little luxury..
I succeeded.
Located close enough to attractions but miles away from the freneticism of Rome.

Attentive, friendly and informative staff.
Even a major wireless glitch received urgent attention.
Only disappointment was the roof bar had closed for the season inspite of it being warm…. hotel need to be flexible ! It is losing money with guests not being able to enjoy.

Comfortable room with all the necessary appointments.
Morning repast with all the usual choices with a expresso merely a request away.
