“A unique find in Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2011

I booked three couples into the penthouse with terraces rooms at the Residence Candia. Brilliant choice. One downfall is the look of the neighbourhood. Of course that was deceiving.
This is an area of shops open late at night, great food markets, restaurants and a laudromat. Each room is unique and we enjoyed comparing what was available in each room.
Cleaning was done each day, free WiFi Internet, extremely helpful staff 24 hr a day. They made transfer arrangements for us, answered questions, showed us on the map where we wanted to go and even advised us each morning on the weather conditions to where we had booked tours.
The tour companies and transfer companies come right into the building to call for you. Great convenience over meeting on a corner in the early morning dark.

The very best was the comfort of the beds. We had been on a 14 day river cruise and thought those beds were perfect, but the beds here at Residence Candia were excellent.

One room had a problem with no hot water and the staff were there within 10 minutes and had it fixed. That is another plus.

Perfect location to the Vatican and the Tiber River. If travelling with friends it is ideal to be able to visit and make a cup of tea in a room where 6 people can sit and be comfortable. Add the pleasant and helpful staff, very clean rooms, walking distance to the metro, Vatican, shops, restaurants, market, laudromat and feel safe, it is a 9.9 to me.

PS the safe was over the bed and difficult to get to in our room, but it was there

I will refer guests to the Residence Candia with high praise.

Room Tip: There are rooms for singles and families. They are not as big as some people expect, but they are a...

Very good location and near the Metro station. Its easy to get around from this hotel. Regarding the hotel , its clean and comfortable. As it is located slightly off the city centre, things and food can be less expensive here.
There is a great seafood restaurant a short distance fromthe hotel, Soto Di Mare on Via Tunisi. Nothing had been written on it yet on TA. The seafood is excellent. We ate there three nights in a row. Price-very reasonable.

This is the worst hotel in which I've ever stayed in my life. My room was set up as if it were a holding cell for people escaping from a dire situation. I wanted very much to escape from this hotel, but it was just too late in the evening and we were much too tired.

The photos on the hotel website do not reflect reality. The residence is under renovation, so there are exposed electrical wires and a general feel of griminess.

The only good things about this hotel are: proximity to the Vatican and the metro. Beyond these two things, there is absolutely noting good this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Rooms were nice and clean and AC available, charge extra for clean towels each day, no breakfast, rooms are geared for students, has burner and fridge. Clean, nice roof deck. Lobby very small. 10 minute walk to Vatican Museum

stayed one night, very clean room, wonderful staff, close to subway and the best gelato (best price) around the corner) room is small (it is Europe) and has the smallest elevator (lift). again Europe. The free wifi was a bonus.
we had a problem with our prearranged transfer to the cruise pier as there was strike (no bus or subway) we were to be picked up at 11:45 am and ended up being picked up at 2:15pm. The young lady at the front desk keep phoning our transfer bus to see what was happening ( they were stuck in traffic picking up other people.) the staff was very helpful, they gave you a big map and advise where to go etc.
would go back again.

We have stayed several times. On site parking, small rooms but they are clean. The family rooms will sleep 8. Perfect location, 5 min from metro, Vatican Museum, close to shopping and restaurants. Now remember this is an old building and standards are different here. So look for clean (check), breakfast included (check), location (check), parking (check), clean (check) I know this is twice but it's that important. Has it's own little kitchen, bring your own dish soap. We will stay again and again. Can be noisy as kids from around the country come to Rome to party the weekend.

Room Tip: Get the family room for large families, view room for romantic nights.

Residence location is nice, close to local life style and local restaurants. Place is located close to Vatican museum a few minutes by walk, rest of sites are easy to access by metro closest station is Cipro. Our group had three rooms in building two and we stayed for a weekend. Buildings Inner yard had a few tables and chairs, served a good meeting point at mornings. Our rooms were ok, clean but bit small and bathroom had a small walk-in shower. Rest of the room was decorated with two story bed, small table, kitchenette with cooking ware and fridge. Most furniture looked like IKEA – style, so don’t expect too much. Rooms were quiet, only some quiet noise heard from staircase. Service in lobby was not best possible bur reasonable and sufficiently for us. Lobby desk don’t rely look like a lobby desk, just a small booth next to the front door. I could also come back whit my wife and baby and would recommend for a friend.

Surroundings: Good ice cream bar corner of Via Vittor Pisani and Via Candia, breakfast places at Via Andrea Dioria and restaurants at Via Angelo Emo.
