Reviewed 12 February 2009

This is a beautiful hotel, clean, lovely comfortable rooms, helpful and polite staff.

Fantastic location in terms of being walking distance to the Colosseum, bus stop and metro.
Breakfast was above average with a reasonable variety.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and won't be staying at any other hotel on my subsequent visits!

This hotel is fine as long as you don't expect too much. It has a beautiful reception but, although we were warmly greeted at checkin by a very friendly member of staff, some of the other receptionists were not quite so helpful.

The rooms are spotlessly clean but, like a lot of the other posts have said, quite small. The bathroom, although a good size, had no shower curtain and the floor was soaked every morning! Also, just note that some of the rooms have their temperature controlled from reception so if you want it altered, you have to phone down!

Something else that we noticed about the room was that although it had a small wardrobe, it had no drawers at all which was a bit inconvenient.

The breakfast each morning was fine and a typical continental- rolls, sweet pastry, cereal, cheese etc. However the hotel does not have a restaurant so make dinner arrangements elsewhere, there are some good restaurants nearby.

Overall, the hotel is conveniently located for the Colessum and the Metro. The area it is in is slightly run down but there is no need to stay there as you can easily get into the more beautiful areas of Rome and enjoy!

This hotel is just ok!
The hotel is situated in what seems a very working class area, down a quiet street and next to a school (dont be mislead about the beautiful courtyard which appears in the photo - thats the school!)
The colisseum is only a short walk away, as is the nearest metro, shops etc which is great.
The reception area is beautiful - very modern and stylish, however the staff weren't exactly very helpful, and seemed miserable and very inexperienced.
Our room included sky tv, large bathroom with jacuzzi bath which was lovely, however the room was extremely tiny, so small that to get to the other side of the bed (by the way - 2 single beds shoved together - although very comfortable!) you had to climb over the bed which was an absolute joke!
The hotel doesn't have a swimming pool on site, but there is one situated a few minutes walk away in the local fitness centre, and its not free!
All in all, if you're looking for a very 'cheap' break then its worth the money as we got an absolute bargain with this hotel!!

I stayed here this past weekend and can say that my experience was simply fantastic!!!!!

Every part of the hotel I saw appeared newly renovated, the foyer/bar/lounge is lovely and modern. The staff - everyone from the front desk to the breakfast people and cleaners - were lovely and always willing to help.

The room was quiet and even though the bed was huge the room itself didn't seem cramped. We had TV with Sky, and the bath in the bathroom had spa jets!

Breakfast was average but there is still all kinds of things to choose from like fruit, cereals, fresh breads and spreads. Coffee/tea is from a machine but there's a bar in the foyer that does a proper coffee!

The location was great because Manzoni metro station is a five min walk away, taking you directly to Termini or Piazza di Spagna, etc.

I will definitely come back to this hotel!!

This hotel has a great deal to recommend it. Very clean; reasonably quiet; excellent bathroom with jacuzzi; good air conditioning, good breakfast, and is reasonably good value when using one of the special deals. On the negative side: bedroom (classic double) was small; the staff were not very friendly ( not an uncommon trait in busy Italian cities), and those we asked were not able to give simple information about museums etc. In the foyer there were no information items about tours, restaurants, bars, etc. The restaurant was poor: food was ordinary and a hot meal was cool. The tv was on in the restaurant which was not a +. The bar was nothing more than an excuse for charging double the prices charged in the nearby bar (which by the way had a great jazz band - the nearby bar that is, not the hotel) It's a pity that the nice bedroom accomm isn't matched by a decent restaurant and a comfortable lounge and bar.

  • Liked — the bedroom and bathroom
  • Disliked — the restaurant and bar ambiance

We went to Rome on 14th September 2008 for days and booked this hotel on Lastminute.com and I can say we were nicely surprised with this hotel. We flew into Ciampino airport and got the Terravision bus to the Termini which cost about 11 Euros which i would advise as was hassle free which is good when your in a foreign city.

From the Termini we got the A metro train to Manzoni which gets you within a 5 min walk to the hotel.

I have to say that some reviews on trip advisor made the hotel to be awful but I can safely say that it is anything but. When we got there the staff were really helpful and spoke really good English. The rooms really nice and cleaned daily. The bed was comfortable which is what you need as you do lots of walking in Rome! I have added some photos of the room so you can see for yourself hoe nice they are. Only niggle we had was that there was no iron in the room but nothing to major.

We stayed in a room facing the road so didnt hear the school next to the hotel but they dont start till 10 so if your up early you wont even hear them.

Breakfast was what you would expect in Europe bread ham cheese but it was a good start to the day. If you leave on an early morning flight they will put together breakfast to go which I thought was really nice.

The hotel is a 10 min walk from the Colosseum which is fantastic

A few tips for a trip to Rome: buy a B.I.G travel ticket as then you have unlimited use of all public transport in Rome, dont have you picture taken with a Gladiator outside the Colosseum unless you dont mind paying 5 Euros for the pleasure, when visiting the Colosseum get your tickets from the Palatine this way you get to walk straight in the colosseum avioding the ques!, at lunch its best to get a pizza or panini from one of the many food vans that are around most attractions ( we got stung on our 1st day by eating in a cafe for lunch and paying 35 euros!) this way you will only spend approx 10 Euros for 2 people, dont be fooled that the men at the Trevi fountain want to give you a rose (they want paying) and you have to be firm in telling them no!,

Rome is a fantastic place and the Prime Hotel was great.
