We stayed in the hotel city center 3 (there are three of those located near one another but in separate buildings) i was a bit anxious because of unfavourable reviews. The hotel is located at a 2 minute walk from the porta maggiore, 20 minutes from termini (we actually walked at night, upon arrival, with luggage!). There are tram [5,14] and bus(105) stations near by on the boulevard, more at the porta, but the tram is usually quite busy. The mazzioni metro is within 5-7 minutes walk. The Colwsseum is 15-20 minutes away. Four neighbourhood restaurants and a super are at a 2 minute walk away.We purchased lunch ingredients daily at the super and tried 2 restaurants which were both nice and reasonably priced On the down side, in the evenings/ nights you will encounter some of the regular "working girls" we got to knoww them by sight... i did not see any suspicious/ menacing looking persons. Breakfast is realy basic and uncahnging, gets boring after 2-3 days. Bread cheese and ham [1 sort of each],cakes of so so quality, youghurt, milk, jam, bisquits, drinks. The guy inside makes scrambled eggs continously and will prepare a good cup of coffee upon demand (free). THe staff waas realy nice and helpful and is glad to assist the guest in touristic matters. Internet is chargebale, TV has tons of Italian speaking channels. THe night clerk (Adolpho) is a sweat but speaks only Italian. He even offered a doll to our three year old. The morning people speak descent to good english.
The rooms are nice, very clean, the maid even folded the childrens' clothings once! (we had 2 rooms). There was a blunder with the rooms (don't know if it is because of the hotel or our agent) so we ended up in different floors. AC was good but in the kids room there was no option to set in,either on or off. Our bathroom was HUGE in size, but in the kids' room they had some trouble setting the right temp. There is a bit of traffic noise due to the proximity to the boulevard.
I can't relly comment as to the "value" of the establishment because this was a flight/hotel package. On the plus side are the location, the clean rooms (they are also not closet size),and the stuff. THe down size is the food, maintenace, and siplicity of the establishment. Overall we had an OK stay, nothing to write home about but no real complaints. Admitedly, we are simple in our demands!

Room Tip: Room 315 is nice and spacious, a bit dark (ground floor) good AC. 342 on the top has AC thatv only...

Never in my life have i ever encountered a hotel that scrimps on so many things.....this is a hotel where the owners have decided to take your hard earned dollars and give you nothing in return...1. they claim they are near the train station, forget it...its a good 30 min. walk and will cost you 10 euros by taxi, there is no metro close by, you have to go to the train station and walk another 20 mins. before you get to the metro........the area is not exactly safe, lots of shady characters walking around...now for the best part......you have to pay a deposit of 20 euros to get a t.v. remote, the t.v is only 12 inches, and even after paying the deposit, it did not work.....the lights in the hallway are programmed to stay on only for a few seconds....they came on as soon as we entered the hallway, shut off by the time we reached our room door, the key to the door is very difficult and it takes a while to open the room door....in darkness, the shower is about 14 inches by 14 inches, if you drop your soap, forget it, you cant bend down to pick it up, if you are a heavy person, you wont be able to fit in the shower, they hardly give you any towels...the faucet was dripping....no facial tissues, no trash can in the bed room area, no plug points to charge your phone.......in addition, the breakfast was minimal, a few pastries, coffee and juice....stay away from this place, its a rip off.
