Really regret stopping for a lunch at this place - should have read all the negative comments prior to my visit! Extremely rude staff-asking for tip after slapping us with 15% service charge? Sad looking food. Avoid-it will be the best decision you've made!

Like so many before us we didn't read the reviews. Same end result though. We were offered the fish special but declined. Had antipasto instead €15 on menu. Charged €40. My husband didn't question it as he didn't see the menu. Seems it wouldn't have mattered anyway. AVOID.

Like all the other reviews - very crooked establishment serving dishes without giving prices first... Unfortunately typical for Rome... Expect to pay ca. €50 for a very average pasta dish even when the others on the menu cost under €20... Very very naughty - should be a law protecting people ...

Sometimes it is necessary to know what to avoid in order to know how to find a great place to eat. The Varsi Bistro shown in these pictures is at the end of the Via della Conciliazione in the shadow of the Vatican. What is wrong with it? Almost everything! If you read our articles on food at blog.myrometourguide.com you may remember that we warn against eating near major tourist sites. They lure you in, "up sell" the order, charge extra for sitting and charge more on the bill than the menu would have suggested. (Note on their menu they have "Lobster".. guess what you get when you agree to the "fish special"????... yep a bill of over 100 euro and nowhere to buy the ax that you want to place in the forehead of the crook who sold it to you) How much worse can it get? The ONLY way to suffer through places like this are to point to something in the glass case that is clearly priced and pay NO MORE than that price. Have a place to sit in mind. If you want to sit in the restaurant, make SURE you know the extra charge. There most certainly will be. Good planning will help you to avoid having a bad experience. It is a major pity to let scam artists give you the impression that everyone is like them. Use your good sense to avoid falling prey to these kinds of establishments. If you don't have enough "good sense" or are easily duped, read the articles mentioned above to help develop judgement that comes from experience.

Organized crime!! They must be reported big time!! There has be an Italian authority that investigates such thieves and close their restaurant.

The head waiter, Max, will tell you he went to school with your mother even if you are from the North Pole. Anything to become your friend and put, on top of a mandatory gratuity, a €60 fish on your bill while you asked for a small serving of fish and potatoes for 1--you will never see any potatoes. You won't feel it I guarantee it. Call the restaurant owner like we did and he will suggest to make up for it by offering you a cup of gelato (€3).

The truth is that he perfectly knows what is going on in his restaurant and agrees with it 100%.

We must have this place investigated. Does anyone know what administration inspects and closes unworthy restaurants in Rome? We can't leave crime unpunished.

Sam
