We had lunch at Piperno at the recommendation of our tour guide. Nice local Italian in the old Jewish Section of the city.
Spaghetti Carbonara was excellent as was the Fettuccini al Ragu. Very reasonable priced.
Had wild strawberries with gelato for dessert and it was amazing.
Very old school Italian in the decor and the service.
We enjoyed the low key environment. Great place to stop for lunch.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Piperno on our last night in Rome. The restaurant is located in a quiet piazza in the Jewish neighborhood. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, and suggested a wonderful wine for us. Some of our favorite appetizers were the the fried artichokes, baccala (fried cod), and zucchini blossoms. The pastas here were the best of any of the restaurants we tried in Rome. We had fettuccine carbonara, gnocchi with lamb stew, and the seafood pasta - all were absolutely perfect. The entrees were equally as good, with the veal bolognese being our favorite. The desserts were obviously homemade and very good. Their signature dessert, 'Grandpa's Balls' is lightly fried cannoli filling which was a huge hit. We hope to return to Rome soon, and will definitely visit Piperno again.

It took a while to find this place, but it was worth the adventure to get there. We had had a rough morning at the Colosseum, so our lovely lunch here saved the day. The appetizers are amazing, especially the artichoke and suppli. I had the seafood risotto and my husband the grilled lamb chops, also amazing. The staff was great, we had a lovely old guy who ended up borrowing the cards that our kids were playing with and showing them a card trick.

I made a reservation here for lunch on our first day in Rome and were hopelessly lost trying to find it. Luckily a local gentleman we ran into knew it and even walked us there. We had a table outside on the charming terrace.

I had read about the fried artichokes & zucchini blossoms so we decided the 3 of us would share them as starters. This was last August so the artichokes were out of season and while my companions enjoyed them, I found them a bit bland. The zucchini blossoms on the other hand were amazing! We also shared a couple of pasta dishes which were very good and for dessert had wild strawberries with vanilla gelato & creme caramel. The caramel was ok but the wild strawberries were heavenly. So simple yet so delicious.

This is a very nice little restaurant that must be very hard to find unless you take a taxi (as we did) and they know the place. Food was excellent and price reasonable. The Gran Fritto Piperno is a very nice starter (for two). Service was impeccible and the (old) servants are very friendly and good looking in their white jacets with a bow-tie. Over all a very nice dining experience.
