“Rude inefficient not worth it”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

We took the archeobus to see the catacombs, the sight itself is worth the visit but the buscompany is terrible - we had to wait nearly one and a half hours to get the bus back into town - the audio commentary hardly ever worked, the tour guide on the bus gave cheeky answers and screamed at us after asking why we had to wait so long - not worth the money!!

“Unreliable service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

The Archeobus does take you to some amazing sites on the Appian Way. It is advertised as a hop-on hop-off service with a bus every 30 minutes (except for a one hour break over lunch from 12:30 - 13:30). Don't believe it! We planned to catch the 11:30 bus from the start point at Termini Station, allowing us a visit to the Terme of Caracalla coinciding with the lunch-break and then on to the Appian Way with the first bus after lunch. The 11:30 arrived at 11:45. Then we were told that the audio-guide wasn't working and we could either get on the bus or ask for a refund at the kiosk. We got on the bus, perhaps unwisely. It left at 12:00. No time for Caracalla. We saw some sights on the Appian Way, and then turned up for the bus back to Caracalla. It didn't show. The next one didn't show either. We waited an hour and a quarter before a bus arrived, So, for future travelers, consider getting the 118 standard bus instead. It's much cheaper and more reliable. You might miss the audio-commentary, but then we missed it anyway!

“Avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Hopeless. We got a 24 hour ticket at a fairly reasonable price. The bus was clapped out, dirty and the windscreen was so filthy you couldn't see through it. It took a while to find a working head phone port, the commentary was ordinary and not in synch with the sites. You can't see many of the major sites and spend a lot of time in traffic.

Worst of all was day 2. We spent an hour waiting at the vatican stop - so much for "about 15 mins". We knew it was the right stop because there was a sign and we used it the day before. After a while we saw 5 or 6 buses on a parallel street, we tried to wave them down or ask what was happening but they just waved us away even though they were completely stationary at the lights. It was infuriating as we had limited time here and thought the bus would allow us to be more efficient, instead a long hot walk and one of our group is pregnant. When we told a ticket seller about our experience he said the bus was re routed due to a demonstration but just shrugged when we asked why there was no sign or warning or information.

I doubt we will get our money back but we will certainly tell our hotel to warn the guests about this service

“Archeobus - be prepared!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014

The only reason we used this bus was because we wanted to go to the Appian Way which would have cost alot by taxi. We paid €20 each at Terminini so that we could hop on/hop off and had not prebooked. Sitting outside was good fun with excellent views but, although the conductor was pleasant and when we got on and she gave us earphones, there was no instruction on how to use them and no checking that we had fastened the seat belts. Indeed we needn't have bothered as none of the earphone sockets we tried on two buses worked. Needless to say the conductor remained in the drivers compartment for the whole of both journeys. We passed some very interesting buildings on the way but make sure you have your own guidebook and follow your map (none were provided) otherwise you will learn nothing. We got off at the last Appian Way stop and had a really pleasant short walk on the cobblestones. The next bus arrived on time to return us to Terminini. The way to use this bus is for the whole day but not for the sights in central Rome which are largely within walking distance. Travel out and alight at the catacombs for the morning. Then hop on and get off at the final stop on the Appian Way. There is a restaurant there for lunch which looked good (we did not have enough time time visit) and then in the afternoon you can walk along the Way into the countryside of ancient Rome. I think there are also cycles to hire there but it would be a bone shaking ride! Overall it was worthwhile to get outside Rome but if you are expecting an informative tour you will be disappointed.

“110 buses, not as bad as made out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2014

Ok so after reading all the negative feedback on this bus company I just had to provide my recent experience having used the 48 hour pass last week. I paid 22.50 euros (including a 25% discount) per person having booked on their website prior to leaving.
First day we decided to do a full circuit to see what was available as this was our first trip to Rome, there was plenty of space on the bus and having been given a tour map on the bus and a set of headphones we sat on the top deck and yes we did have a trouble with the connection for the commentary and I was beginning to think I should have just avoided the buses all together as none seem to have a good review, however after completing the full circuit we got off had a little walk and returned to get on another 110 bus to the Vatican City, this was perfect on the commentary sound and gave some good information, we continued to use the buses over the 2 days and had no problems what so ever, we did notice though that the buses did seem to alter their route slightly each time we used them, we did not know if this was down to traffic or the driver or just company policy.
The on-board Lady conductors checking tickets and supplying maps were all very pleasant, it was only the ticket sellers on the streets we had constant harassment with but these were from all companies not just 110
So the upshot is yes I thought it was worth the money and we probably would use again if we returned to Rome in the future.
