The place is cozy and rustic but it lacks some atmosphere. The waiter made some mistakes and the food was so-so. Prices are the same (medium-high) as the rest of the area.

Whilst on a 4 day visit to Rome, for our last night, we ate at La Taverna dei Monti.

We were served by what seems to me to be the no-nonsense owner. They were very busy and so he was dealing with orders, clearing tables, ushering new clients in, and he was efficient.

We ordered our food and we have only positive comments about the food. My wife and myself both had roast lamb with potatoes. It was surprising that we had to pay for literally 60g of bread. The bread was sourdough bread and was good and it would have been a pity to waste the meat juices. We are not big eaters but at the table next to ours, other clients, had soup which looked genuinely home-made. There was also tripe with tomatoes which, honestly speaking, is not my kettle of fish but I can only imagine that it was good by the way it was being relished.

The restaurant has tables, both indoors and outside. There were lots of patrons at the restaurant and we must say that whenever we had passed by this restaurant on previous evenings it was always packed. I regret not having gone twice.

We made certain that our first dinner on a recent 6th visit to Rome would be at Taverna dei Monti! Simply put, we absolutely LOVE the cooking of traditional Roman dishes and pastas at this obviously local favorite in the Monti neighborhood!
The menu features an appealing selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, and entrees at very reasonable prices!
The owner (who handles all tasks superbly) and our waiter are very efficient and very accommodating!
We greatly enjoyed our appetizers of a caprese salad and onion soup, and our entrees of saltimboca and lasagna were perfectly prepared and SO delicious!!
Our wine selection complemented our dinners beautifully!
Highly recommend! We LOVE this place!

After our 4 hour tour of the Colosseum and Roman ruins, we stumbled upon La Taverna die Monti.

We sat outside in the shade and enjoyed a cold beer, a caprese salad, and a small pizza. The food was fantastic and inexpensive. Exactly what we’re looking for. Very friendly staff.

For us, although we never had a poor meal; finding a little place off the beaten path has proven to be as good and often better than the restaurants suggested.
