“Excellent stay”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

We are 7 days into a 10 day stay at Hotel Re di Roma and so still here and still loving it. If you are completely crunched for time and want to save time riding the metro you might see if you could find something closer to Storico, the Vatican or the Forum. If however you like to stay in a welcoming neighbourhood and feel like you have a home away from home then stay here. Extremely clean, helpful staff and with tbe metro just a block away, accessible to everything.

We decided to accept the hotel's offer of airport pickup and after an 8 1/2 hr flight from Toronto plus a 1 1/2 hr wait for.luggage it was so nice to be met and here in 30 min. I had emailed prior and requested a balcony room for our stay and we got not a balcony but a huge terrace. Amazing to relax in the morning, to rest after 6-8 hrs of sightseeing and to watch life go by after dinner at a favourite restaurant (which is an easy 15 min walk from the hotel). Room 107.

Also just down the block is Piazza Re di Roma; also the metro stop. It is a pretty park and every evening local families; grandparents. Parents, children and dogs gather to play and mingle. It is a beautiful thing and I think that North Americans could learn from this. We have loved spending a little time there. Almost directly across the street from the hotel is a small market/deli (open in the am until 4:00 pm) There is a full supermarket and a good pizza take out restaurant in the Piazza and excellent restaurants and cafes as well as shopping within an easy 15 min walk.

Basilica San Giovanni in Laterano (the Popes church) is just up Appia Nuovo, easy15 min, and we walked to the Colisseum in 25 min. Location here is great.

As for some previous reviews about the showers and water all over the floor; we have the tub/shower combo. Great deep tub for soaking after a long day walking but just a partial wall for the shower. Point the small rain head shower straight down and use less water pressure. Problem solved.

In some reviews breakfast was an issue. I don't know how you eat at home; I usually do cereal and yogurt almost every day, seldom bacon and eggs. Here I get not only cereal and yogurt but also croissants, fresh fruit, meat and cheese with crusty rolls and toast. Pretty good to me.

The front desk staff are fantastic. We saw that there was an opera with performances while we were here; we have never been to an opera but thought we are in Rome, what better place to try it. Desk booked us amazing seats and we loved it. A highlight of the trip. If you need help with tickets give them 24 hrs and they can probably do it. Best advice; if there is something you know you want to see find the website and book tickets on line before you come. Avoid the horrendously long ticket lines and the tour sellers.

Anyway hope it helps, contact me if you have questions, I will post some photos when I get home and download them. Have fun, stay here and enjoy. At the end of a long day it was so nice for us to be able to go "home".

Room Tip: Call ahead and request a balcony, so nice to have outdoor space.

Location- Awesome! Was a little wary when I first arrived due to all the graffitti, but soon realised the graffitti is everywhere in Rome. It's about a 20-30 minute walk to the colleseum but located away from all the touristy things. There's a grocery store, restaurants and some clothing stores close by.
Hotel- Small, but really nice. The staff was very helpful, booked all our tours for us. Our luggage was lost for 3 days, and they consistently tried to get a hold of the airline for 3 days straight when the line was busy. (Never fly Swiss Air fyi.) The breakfast was good, typical European with bread, meat and cheese, fruit, and some cereal.
Would definitely recommend and would stay here again if I were to return to Rome!

We stayed for 4 nights in July 2013 and found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable, good wi-fi in the room and a more than adequate breakfast. The location is away from the city centre but only a short walk to the nearest Metro station and anything in Rome is accessible by Metro. We met 7 staff during our stay and 6 of them were excellent. We had a slight problem on checking out when the reception staff Alberto wanted to incorrectly charge for the local tax. There was a misunderstanding in the email communications when our booking was made which caused the problem. We had intended to book for one more night later in our trip but because of the way Alberto handled our departure decided not to bother. A few days later I received an email from the manager Eugenio apologizing for the way our checkout had been handled and explaining how the misunderstanding had occurred. I had not emailed the hotel about our problem so Eugenio had been proactive in contacting me after obviously hearing there was a problem. The way he managed the situation was excellent. In the end we did stay for the further night and were glad we did as it really is an excellent hotel. Thank you Eugenio for turning what had become a bad experience into the good experience you hotel is worthy of.

hotel is very nice, very good location, rooms are typical europe small, bathroom small, but very clean, nice design.
2 things:
first if you are overweight of a very large adult keep it in mind shower stall is 4sq feet;
second, we in the room 104 our children in 105 we can hear every word they say;
we like this hotel very much.

The location is a little bit out of the city center but it is extremely convenient. It is about a three minute walk to the metro which will take you anywhere in rome. The location was great because it was quiet and just what we needed after a long day of sightseeing. Rooms are clean and modern. The front desk was very nice and always willing to help. Breakfast was good and consisted of cereals, bread, meats and cheeses. Just right to get your day started in Rome. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed here in 2009 and I didn't have second thought about staying here this year. I felt very safe at this location which was very important because I was traveling alone. The metro was super close to the hotel. There were also so many wonderful places to eat in Re Di Roma. The staff was great. My room had a balcony. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The hotel was clean, the staff were very helpful, breakfast was great. The hotel was within minutes of the metro, only four stops from Rome Termini.

The receptionist recommended a restaurant called "Ricominciodare" which was about 15 minute walk from the hotel, it was by far the best restaurant we ate in and it was also the most reasonably priced. The receptionist printed us a map showing us how to get there. I would recommend if you stay at the hotel to ask for a map and try the restaurant for your self. The only downside to the trip was in main Rome there were a lot of beggar's, and men that would walk up to your wife/girlfriend offer them a rose for free and then try and con you out of money, when we offered some loose pocket change he demanded more so was promptly given the rose back.

Watch out for young pick pockets too.

Not far from the hotel was an ice cream shop called "Fatamorgana" the ice cream was out of this world and I highly recommend, we visited it most days in the evening.

There was a lot of graffiti near and around the hotel, we arrived back late most evenings and never saw any trouble or troublesome kids, so don't be deterred, it was a great base to explore Rome from.

Enjoy !

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor if you can, better view and less noise. If you want to use WIFI it only works...
