Michele was an excellent host. The B&B was very spacious and a tremendous value. We frankly just needed a place to sleep since we walked around Rome from sunrise to sunset. Our suite had two bedrooms, a large bathroom with shower, kitchen, and small dining room. The rooms were clean and a basic breakfast was provided, plus a cappuccino maker.

The location was incredible. We were within 1.5 blocks of the walls of the Vatican with dozens of awesome restaurants close. We were a short cab ride (or long walk) from Piazza Navona.

The area felt very safe and there were a ton of ATMs close. The access to the B&B was via a very small elevator, but that was definitely preferable to the 6 story walk up the stairs.

Overall we enjoyed the B&B and would definitely return!

We spent 2 nights at this B and B after a 10 day cruise from Rome. It is just clocks from the Vatican and close to good shopping and restaurants. we walked formiles and saw all the main attractions of Rome, but the Vatican Museum is one of the highlights.
The staff were helpful, even with their limited English. A well stocked breakfast bar and fridge was shared between our room and the room next door. The view our our window was great and we utilized the a/c as it was hot while we were there. The room was smallish with high ceilings and the furniture was disppointingly modern and we had to take an old fashioned "lift" to the 5th floor but we were in Rome for heaven's sake ,which is a beautiful romantic city!! We would return for the convenient location for sure and the quietness of the accomodation.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and although we knew we had the right address, the doors were shut and there was nothing on the outside to indicate that this was indeed the place. Just as I was about to phone their number, someone came out and it was only once we got into the entrance hall that we saw a sign for the Ancient Romance.

So we took the small lift up to the sixth floor where we were welcomed by Giorgio who was extremely friendly and informative. He showed us to our room which was just next to the reception area and on the main road side.

Being July it was extremely hot but, unfortunately, the air conditioning was less than adequate and extremely noisy. It even drowned out the television, which didn’t really matter as we could only get about two reasonable channels anyway! The room was adequate and for its location was fairly good value, The bathroom was ok, but the shower was extremely small. Sleeping was really difficult due to the heat and as we were on the street-side, we could not even open the windows for some air!

The breakfasts were nothing to write home about but the dried goods were available all day and you could always grab a snack if you were feeling peckish. The fridge containing the juice, milk, ham, cheese and fruit was only opened in the morning once the cleaner had come in. Unfortunately, she forgot to open it one day which meant none of the guests were able to have a proper breakfast. We did inform Giorgio who made sure that it was opened the night before from then on.

What is best about this b & b is the location – right next to the Vatican. There are lots of bars and restaurants, so finding somewhere to eat was never a problem. If the air con was improved then it would make a real difference. There are no frills with this place, but if you are just looking for somewhere to rest your head, then this will suffice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard, much quieter.

It's located about 200 meters from the Ottaviano Metro station. You wouldn't think it was the place if you don't see the number 9 on the side of the door to the building. Our room was also on the 6th floor but as soon as we got in the room, we were surprised - we asked for a quadruple room and what we got was practically a suite. It had two bedrooms, a kitchenette, a toilet and bath and a dining table. It wasn't luxurious or grand, but it was roomy and comfortable. After settling down, we were on our way to look around and St. Peter's Square was just about 200 meters away. Food was easy to come by as there are numerous pizzerias and restaurants in the area around the hotel's entrance. The place may not be glamorous but I would definitely book there again if I go back to Rome. An added bonus, Rafael, one of the staff, was very helpful and gave us tips on what to see in Rome and how to get around Rome. Angela, the other member of the staff, was just as helpful even if she didn't speak English. She tried her best to help and somehow, we understood each other and she was able to book us a taxi to the airport when we left.

Room Tip: Try to book a room with a view of the courtyard at the back, it's quiet.

My family, some friends and I stayed in this B&B last October. We had two triple rooms in the new part, which was situated few blocks away from the older one. Both of our rooms had just been renovated and were extremely clean. They were spacious and we had all that we needed in the room. Right outside our window was a busy street and there was some traffic noise, but nothing so loud that it would have disturbed our sleep.

The breakfast was served in the kitchen. It consisted of dry, pre-packed breads and cakes, different jams, yogurts and some fruits + coffee, tea and juices. It was quite adequate. The kitchen was open all day long and one could have a snack at any time. There was a computer in the hallway that guests were welcome to use and a free wi-fi in the rooms. The staff was excellent, nice and always very helpful. They told us all the good places to go, and all the not so good places. If you're travelling with a big suitcase, notice that the lift is very small and it doesn't take you to the same level with the B&B entrance, but you have one set of stairs to climb. The staff helped us with our luggage so it was ok.

One of the best parts of this B&B is its situation. It's only a few blocks away from the St.Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museum. The closest metro stop is right outside the B&B and it only takes about 10 minutes to get to the central Rome. Ancient Romance B&B is overall a very pleasant and nice place to stay, nothing luxurious, but comfortable, practical and welcoming. I'll be staying here on my next trip to Rome.
