I ve been there some days ago; good Pasta alla Carbonara and Saltimbocca alla Romana.
Excellent service with high competent people describing the dishes.
The price isn't so attractive even if near the Pantheon.
Suggested if you don t mind at money.

This was our less pleasant diner in Rome. Food was good, everything else was not. First the tables were so crammed inside the little restaurant that I could literally reach out and take something from the guy’s plate on the next table. The restaurant was extremely lit and there was no music, so the ambiance was nonexistent. Service was polite, but it felt like this was a mask and that the waiter is not really interest in serving us. The worst part was we waited for a decade until our food arrived.

Maybe they had just a bad night, but our overall experience was not what we expected. The other two dinners we had in Rome were far much better.

After reading about Armando on many well-known Rome food blogs, we knew it was a traditional mom and pop restaurant with many years of history. Being only a half block from the Pantheon, reservations are a necessity. We looked up their website and contacted them by email, using google translate. We were served by a delightful young male server who explained the menu.

We enjoyed the eggplant parmigiana and the veal, but it was the cozy family feeling of pride and ownership we remember. We saw them turn away more people than were seated, because they wanted to provide a pleasant time for their guests. We felt we had experienced a taste of Roma.

I loved this place. I went last week with two friends.

Two of my favorite dishes to eat anywhere are eggplant parmesan and grilled lamb. Both were among the best I've ever had.

The fried zucchini flower with mozzarella and anchovy was very light and fresh -- delicious.

The pastas were among the best I've ever eaten, anywhere.

The boiled beef with tomato sauce -- just spectacular.

And so on.

A few practicalities:

1. Reservation is essential.
2. The service is polite but they are definitely turning tables. Don't try to linger and please don't be overly demanding or a precious foodie freak who thinks the world revolves around you.
3. The wine list is long and our waiter steered us nicely into a choice. Trust them.
4. The seating is slightly tight. Deal with it. Given the location, the rent must be very high but the restaurant's prices are not inflated. If you can't deal with a fairly tight fit then eat elsewhere.

ENJOY!

On a "friend's" suggestion, Armando's was on our list...a stone's throw from the fabulous Pantheon, and we were not disappointed. We did not have a reservation but were able to be seated at 12:30, when Armando opens for lunch...caught a lucky break that day because you really do need to make a reservation. Other would-be diners were trying to get in without one after us and they were turned away. The room is smallish but comfortably cosy with light coming through a stained glass window. We shared eggplant parmigiana to start then followed with our primi of fettuccine with chicken liver sauce and a Roman favourite, Pasta alla Gricia...both were delicious. Next up, to share, an Armando special "braised chicken with roasted peppers in tomato sauce with a hint of rosemary"...the food may be on the traditional side but the cooking is outstanding...would love to go back and stay until 3:00 enveloped in excellent food and the warm ambience!
