“A hidden gem---would definitely stay again!”
Reviewed 15 October 2010

My husband and I stayed at Casa Montani for our honeymoon. I am so glad we found it! Called "Luxury Townhouses", the hotel is made up of 5 rooms/suites on a floor of an office building, run by I believe a husband and wife. The rooms are beautifully decorated and immaculately clean.

We stayed in the Junior Suite, which had a foyer, bathroom, little living room and a bedroom (and closet). On the smallish side, but definitely a generous size for Europe. We had a safe, the AC worked well, we could get TV channels in English (a nice break from the usual CNN and BBC that European hotels usually only get), mini bar, toiletries are Hermes (but when we ran out, they weren't automatically replaced. I'm sure if we had asked they would have refilled them), lovely breakfast delivered to your room every morning, train station right outside the building, 5-10 minute walk to the Spanish Steps, but a little too far to walk to anything else we wanted to see (we took the train everywhere else.) Staff is really friendly and always were willing to help. If we travel back to Rome, we'd definitely come back here!

Only downsides were the Wifi was spotty, and after 5 minutes, if you weren't active online, it booted you off.

Also, there is a little restaurant on the first floor of the building---cute, waiters were very nice and spoke english, food was good...we went there twice.

My husband and I just returned from a 2-week trip to Italy. Our last three days were spent at Casa Montani, thanks to Trip Advisor. I spend a lot of time doing research before we take a trip. After reading the reviews, I booked Casa Montani months before our trip.
Even though our room was on the small side, it was very well appointed. I would consider this an upscale hotel. We enjoyed having our breakfast wheeled into our room every morning.
We didn't find the lack of a 24-hour staff member to be a problem. Guiseppe arranged for a wakeup call and a car for our early departure to the airport. He even made sure that an early breakfast was sent to our room before we left.
The location was great....close to Villa Borghese (a must see) and across the street from Piazza Del Popolo.
We found that the closer you get to the tourist areas, the more expensive the food and drink. The Trasteverde area had the best prices.
Also, there is an elevator.

This location, a stone's throw from a metro stop, and near the Piazza de Popolo, arguably has to be one of the best in Rome. This is a charming boutique hotel, and the decor is gorgeous.
Notable positives:
-After a long day of sight seeing, if you choose to take the Metro back to your hotel, you will be rewarded by its close proximity!
-Front desk staff (likely the owners) are courteous, charming, and efficient. Helped us make many dinner reservations and arranged car services for our airport trips--no problem.
-Rooms are well-appointed (loved the Hermes bath products!) and very pretty, though so tiny! The equivalent of one square meter more in the room and bathroom would have been welcomed, but the bathrooms are certainly gorgeous and functional, with all new decor and fixtures.
-Morning breakfast --chocolate croissants, yogurt, cappuccino-delivered right to your room--was wonderful. Heavenly!
-The double-pane glazed windows really were quite effective against the noise in the streets below. Our room was very quiet, and this helped greatly for a good night's sleep!

This is a charming boutique hotel in Rome. We prefer Paris, but if you're staying in Rome, I would highly recommend Casa Montani.

We stayed at the Casa Montani for 4 nights this month after booking 7 months in advance. I always complete extensive research into any city/hotel I may be staying in and therefore felt that that I knew exactly what to expect before arriving although was pleasantly surprised on a number of points that I will go into in more detail later... This is not a hotel and therefore if you are expect as standard a concierge service, room service, restaurant etc, this is not the place for you! With the Casa Montani, you get exactly what they advertise on their website which in itself is a huge plus - many places use very skilled photographers to 'enhance' what's on offer which can leave you disappointed when you arrive...

LOCATION
The location is even better than we anticipated! Not having visited Rome before, we found that we really had no idea about how close things were until we arrived and started exploring despite studying many maps prior to our visit! The Piazza del Popolo is literally on the opposite side of the road to the Casa Montani. We walked EVERYWHERE and to all the main sites and attractions from this location which was lovely at this time of the year (Both during the day and until late in the evening). The only thing we weren't prepared for was how manic the streets can get leading off the Piazza del Popolo but once we'd negotiated that, we were fine!

CASA MONTANI
I had emailed them advising we were due to arrive prior to the advertised check in time to see if it would be possible to check in earlier and to arrange a transfer from Ciampino airport. They advised that they would note the request for early check in and arrange a private transfer for us from the airport to Casa Montani for 40Euros. We completely missed the driver upon arrival - our name was scribbled onto a piece of paper with a biro and therefore we couldn't see it until we were literally right in front of him! Transfer was smooth though.

The building in which the Casa Montani is located is a grand, collossal building! Once through the main doors, the corridor stretches infront of you and you then turn left walking to the end of another corridor until you come to a lift on your right. Casa Montani is located on the 3rd floor - without the help of someone just leaving the building, I'm sure we would have had difficulties finding it!

Even having read many reviews and exploring the website, Casa Montani was still smaller than I imagined it to be having more of an 'apartment' feel to it. The main door leads stright into the 'lobby area' - a beautifully furnished room. To the right of this is a small desk at which someone is always available up until about 8pm.

When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm and friendly welcome, our room was ready and check in was quick and simple, just what we needed! The lady at the desk also advised us of the free internet Wifi service which we were very pleased with and even more grateful for following our next stay in Rome!
Off this 'lobby' room is a corridor leading to 5 guest rooms. That's it! But wow! Once we opened the door to our room, we were so pleased!

OUR ROOM
We had booked the suite simply to have a bit of extra space around us and it was definitely worth it! The room really is exquisitely furnished - very elegant and very luxurious! Lovely sitting area, beautiful bedroom and an adequate bathroom providing Hermes products. The bed as others have mentioned is extremely comfortable - the pillows are wonderful! Breakfast preferences were requested on our first day via a request form - we were asked to select drinks and items we would like along with an estimated hour slot that we thought we would be ready for it. In the morning, you simply ring reception when ready and it arrives at the room on a lovely trolley about 5 minutes later - a lovely experience.

NIGGLES
A few VERY minor niggles -
We were surprised that we weren't asked to fill out the breakfast request form out again each day (just in case you wanted tea instead of coffee or needed to leave earlier and therefore have breakfast earlier) but I'm sure that if we had asked, this would have been possible. Was no big deal for us, simply an observation...
No automatic change of towels during 4 night stay although there were enough provided to avoid us asking for fresh ones.
Also, having never spent any time in a place so small, I think we have decided our personal preference would be to stay somewhere we could remain a little more 'anonymous' where our comings and goings were not so 'obvious' and where we wouldn't feel obliged to be make 'small talk' leaving and coming back. This is nothing at all against the Casa Montani - the staff were so friendly, welcoming and polite and the room beautiful. This is probably more a reflection on us!

Overall, a wonderful stay! :-)

Casa Montani's layout may be a bit strange for non-Europeans - it's actually a big suite in an office building, which they have converted into a lobby and 6 or 7 hotel rooms. While a little odd at first, it actually provides for a very quiet, comfortable home base during your stay in Rome. The hotel's location is fantastic - only a few steps from Piazza del Popolo, and a short walk from the Spanish Steps, Via Del Corso, and hundreds of shops and restaurants. Additionally there is a Metro stop 20 feet from the front door. The hotel is very modern and full of conveniences, with plenty of bathroom and closet space. While Casa Montani does state that they don't have a concierge, our only disappointment was that the women at the front desk - while very friendly - weren't always able to help us with questions about the city. Guiseppe (the owner) was more able to help, but he wasn't around that often. The hotel is a very good value in what can be a very expensive city, and I would stay there again.

Great Find!

We had a great experience at Casa Montani. We started and ended our Amalfi Coast trip in Rome & stayed 3 nights at Casa Montani (2 in the beginning of our trip and 1 at the end).

Not a full service hotel, but a perfect place to stay while in Rome. Great location (just outside subway stop & near Spanish Steps & Trevi Fountain, clean rooms, great Hermes amenities, working A/C & yummy breakfast! We loved our stay at Casa Montani! Stay in a suite if possible (more room & not much more $)

This hotel was great! The staff was wonderful, helpful as well as friendly. We had two rooms and both were as comfortable as each other. It was just a short walk to the most wonderful shopping, restaurants and sites. I gave it a four for location as there were closer hotels to the Spanish steps, however, with the value for money and the quality of the hotel, walk the extra 5 minutes, it's worth it. This place felt like home and I would highly recommend it.

Pros - The beds were comfortable as were the pillows. The bathrooms were small, but fine. I had a relaxing bath every afternoon in this beautifully deep bath. The television was great with the option of watching shows in their original language. Would never have worked it out had it not been for our daughter. The underground was right outside and a two minute walk to a large taxi rank. And when you struggle back after hours of site seeing, ring for a coffee and its there in a second.

Cons - None, we would definitely consider this hotel again!
