“Simplicity in a good location”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

Located quite close to some of the better hotels in Rome, this B&B is tucked away in a quiet location just near Via Veneto and minutes from two Metro stations and the Corso.

Rooms are moderate in size - we also had a balcony area which was perfect for breakfast. The bed very firm, the shower doing the job with good pressure.

Breakfast was very simple, but the espresso was good. There's a little fruit shop around the corner which can help you supplement the meal. Just be warned that toast in Italy is often packaged toasted bread which is more like a rusk!

A few notes:
- Do bring ear plugs as you can hear your neighbours or people in the corridor on occasion.
- Staff are obliging to do laundry - just let them know what temperature.
- Their taxi service was good but you will pay more than a standard taxi from the airport by about €15.
- Because there is not always someone on site you may face a wait for getting something you need, and this may include the 10 or more minutes for the staff to come back from wherever they are. But truth be told, they are very helpful.

All up, this is a very good budget option for Rome.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the large outdoor patio where we had breakfast. Breakfast is basic and served to your room based on your selection. Great location at walking distance to many restaurants and sights. We used their taxi service for airport pickup and the driver was there on time and he promptly got us to Alex Inn. We also booked the taxi from the B&B to the airport but the taxi didn't show up. It was booked for 8 am and there was nobody at the reception at that time to help us with this matter. The person in charge of making breakfast kindly pointed us where we could get another taxi on the street but we had to pay extra money (about 13 Euro) and we left 30 min later than originally planned.

It was a very nice hotel with a lovely balcony and room. There was just no one to ask questions or to complain to. Then you had to make a call. But on the other hand you had a lot of privacy. The breakfast was served very late. We missed it the last day while we asked to bring it early. The neighbours were very loud, but that was just our bad luck.
Very nice location and I would visit the hotel again.

the rooms are great, spacious, clean, on the 6th floor of a great building! Just a few minutes away from the Barberini piazza and the metro station and also a few minutes away from the Spanish steps and the Trevi fountain. The service was very good and the breakfast is huge and tasty! The price is very reasonable for all the services provided and the rooms' quality! I'd love to go back!

First, you need to know that when Italians say "5th floor" it means 6th floor to Americans. The elevator in the building goes to the "5th floor" so you need to walk up one flight of stairs to find Alex Inn. I am glad I arranged a taxi with Giorgio because, like a lot of these small establishments in Rome, there is no large sign outside of the building. Second, if you want a full service hotel, this is not the place. Once you check in, you don't really see anyone at the desk. Not a big deal to me. That being said, the man at the front desk at check in, (dang, forgot his name!) was friendly and we had a great conversation about all the reasons he should visit Seattle. He gave an excellent recommendations for dinner as well. Although I read other reviews about the noise, we were in Room 5 which is not in the hall near the other rooms and was very quiet. The balcony was probably my favorite part of the room. I loved being able to relax in the sunshine after a day of walking. It was lovely to sit out and have my cappuccino in the morning as well. Room 5 requires a few steps up to the door and also has a platform bed that is pretty low to the ground. If you have difficulty getting up from the floor, I would be sure to reserve a different room. In addition, it has a sloped ceiling. A tall person would have to duck in about half the room. There is a good sized bathroom. The shower, however, is right by the exit door at the opposite end from the bathroom. Yes, the room was quirky, but that is part of the fun of traveling! It was clean, comfortable and I would be happy to stay there again. My teenaged daughter said it was her favorite hotel EVER.

Room Tip: Room five has stairs and a low bed.

I love this hotel! While in a very expensive neighborhood (just off the famed Via Veneto) the price is great and breakfast is included. I found Alex Inn thanks to a travel snafu with my first hotel in March 2010; they had overbooked for my first night so they put me up at Alex Inn for the night. I loved it so much that I stay there when I travel to Rome for business! The owner Alexandra is terrific as are her staff. And you can't beat the location; walking distance to major attractions like the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Borghese Museum. Also bus lines and a Metro stop - Barberini - nearby. The one drawback is the noise - you can hear other guests coming and going all day and night. But the warmth, comfort and terrace make up for all of that!! And, unlike most other hotels located in condo buildings, you don't have to leave your keys with the front desk so you can come and go as you please!
