“Quiet, friendly, good location”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

We just spent 5 nights here, & loved the location: 5 minute walk to a Metro stop & a block or two off of 2 major thoroughfares for buses, shopping and, of course, the evening passeggiata. Wonderful, small neighborhood restaurants are also abundant. Note, however, that this hotel is 5 minutes from Piazza di Poppolo, and a good 20 minute-plus walk from the Spanish Steps, which is not quite what their website would have you believe. Regardless, the location is great for walking to many sites, and being on a small side street, it is very quiet at night.

A few criticisms: The coffee is pretty awful, which is a crime in Italy! They have a big multi-function self-service machine that uses instant coffee & powdered milk - horrible! And saying that the mattresses are firm would be a monumental understatement -- my husband & I joked about sleeping on a slap of concrete with a rock for a pillow! We asked if they had any softer pillows, and they obligingly added two big, thick pillows -- both hard as rocks, but thicker than the originals! We had no problem sleeping after walking all day every day, but others might not do so well.

Our trip started out with the hotel arranging transportation from the airport for a price comparable to our other options. The hotel is located mid way between the Spanish Steps and Piazza Publicos, in the middle of a high end shopping area. Very safe area to walk. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Want to commend David for all he did for us. The breakfast was more than adequate for our needs. The room was on the small size as was the bathroom, the bed was comfortable. Close to the Metro.

Extremely clean! On a nice little quiet street. Few blocks from metro stations, but not bad. Right next via del corso (shopping). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Charming old building but obviously well taken care of. Great stay.

Hotel is very well located. People are friendly. Breakfast was not good except coffee. The rooms are ok for the price. If rates available without breakfast go for it and have breakfast outside. I would recommend it because it is well located and quiet rooms, all you need for a city tour.

First stayed at the Centrale back in the 60,s 70,s when it was the Margutta. It's now updated and has become a charming hotel, with a special staff, David.is wonderful, and close to many fine restaurants. Some complain about the breakfast, but forget that Italians don't indulge in mammoth breakfasts. So what they offer is much more than just the typical continental breakfast, and it's all one needs to start off on a great day and then indulge in a fabulous lunch along the way. Stay here you'll enjoy it. kenneth laban

Dearest Kenneth Laban & Michael Mallies,
Thank you very much for sharing your excellent comment on your recent trip to Rome.
We are delighted to learn that our location and facilities were convenient for you, and our team left a great impression.
Before it was called Margutta, true, but this fascinating XVI century building has been completely refurbished in 2007, with fully furnished rooms and professional Management careful to all hospitality industry needs.
Congratulation for the room choice! The best definitely! With its independent entrance and its lovely top floor terrace facing Villa Medici.
We are grateful you have also appreciated our simple but delicious breakfast and the fine restaurants we have recommended you.
Your feedback is important to us, as the hotel is always striving to improve, so we appreciate your time and honesty and I will certainly be sharing your comments and compliments with our team.
It would be a pleasure for us to welcome you back to the Hotel Centrale on your next trip.
My best regards,
David Longobardi

Fabulous staff, yummy breakfast, clean rooms and very safe. It was a wonderful experience staying at this hotel during my Rome vacation. The location is centrally located, restaurants are right at the end of the block and I walked everywhere. The staff helped answer all my questions, provided maps and ideas for my days as well.

Room Tip: My room was very quiet and I slept well every night.

The staff was amazing, helped us to see and do everything. They treated us like family! The hotel is right across from the water taxi and a 8 min. walk from the beach. The breakfast was fabulous and it made our trip to Italy. Thanks

Room Tip: The top rooms have a great view but the "economy" room was quiet and peaceful we stayed in...
