Owner description: Probably the most famous chapel in the world because of its incredible artwork, notably "The Last Judgment," Michelangelo's stunning fresco covering 10,000 square feet of the ceiling and wall.

“This is it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Here the artists summed up the entire History of the Bible, and a lot before, in great works of art that lift any person's soul up. The only problem is that it was a bit dark and full of people when I visited.

“Expect to get crushed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

Everyone wants to see Michelangelo great works, but to do so be prepared to be pushed through never ending corridors to get to your final destination. The whole experience is smells so much of a "get-em, push-em out" approach to crowd management that it is really hard to get an appreciation of the art works. Whatever you do try to avoid the coach loads of tourist, try picking a time when they will be minimal, which is hard to do.

It's one of those things first timers to Rome have to do, so be prepared for a bone crushing experience.

“Amazing Experience; Won't Soon Forget!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013 via mobile

This is an amazing experience, one that you should definitely make every effort to enjoy if you are in Rome. It will be crowded, unless you do a special tour or night opening. Either way, come see it.
Some tips:
-do NOT bother trying to take pictures (the guards are on the look-out and will come over and make you hand-over your camera so they can delete your pictures if they spot you...it is just not worth the time or embarrassment when you can download better quality photos offline anyway)
-make sure you keep your group together or designate a meeting place/time (I got separated from my group and it would have been absolutely impossible to have reconnected with them if it hasn't been for the fact that one professor had a cell phone I was able to call from another student's phone (international minutes are worth the investment, by the way))
-be respectful and quiet (of course not everyone will do this, but it is just such a powerful experience if you let it be so...try to give others the opportunity to fully experience it, even if not everyone is doing the same for you)

“NO cameras allowed ...:)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

Silently we all sat together and admire everything about the Chapel. I was disappointed to see that some people still try to steal a snap shop here and there. There's enough security guards there to watch over everyone and still people want to do this....
Personally not a christian but I respect and loved everything I saw.

“Through Eternity Tour was the key”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

Our Through Eternity tour guide gave us an I depth primer before entering as you are not allowed to take pictures and no tour speeches can be given inside the chapel. It is important to have the information about the history behind the paintings on the ceiling and the rapture painting on the wall to truly appreciate the art.
