Owner description: The most beautiful work inside St. Peter's Cathedral is Michelangelo's famous La Pietà, considered by many to be the most moving piece of sculpture ever created.

“The detail of it is supurb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

Even behind glass (which sadly happened in 1974 when a person took a hammer to the piece)it is moving and breathtaking. It is hard to fathom the creation of it. Take the time to see it and just to stand still and appreciate it while you are there.

“Perfect Sculpture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

Very crowded in the area, but it is not impossible to get to the front of the scrum and view this piece of art. It is behind glass but the way in which it is lit up enhances how it looks.

Superb. Little crowded unfortunately, the view was ok but taking pictures was like a rugby scrum. Still the visit was well worth it!

“Moving sculpture of Michelangelo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

A very beautiful sculpture carved out of marble. One can only marvel at Michelangelo's artistry and spiritual connection. It's a shame it's behind glass. Definitely worth a visit.

“Absolutely beautiful and moving!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

The Pieta is once of the many beautiful artifacts inside of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. You will find it just to the right of the entrance, between the Holy door and the altar of Saint Sebastian. It is protected by glass but pictures can be taken freely. Saint Peter's Basilica is so big and so much to see that there really weren't many people viewing the Pieta so was able to get some amazing photos. The face of Jesus looks so serene without any hint of the crucifixion that just took place. The beauty of a mother holding her murdered child is without description and can only be seen. I first saw the Pieta at the New York World's Fair in 1965 as part of the Vatican Pavilion. I was only 15 and was instantly amazed and humbled. I highly recommend!
