Owner description: The most beautiful work inside St. Peter's Cathedral is Michelangelo's famous La Pietà, considered by many to be the most moving piece of sculpture ever created.

This statue is beautiful, but when I went to St. Peter's Basilica, it was by far the most crowded part of the site and I couldn't get close enough to really get a good look. If you want a close view, I suggest going right when the basilica opens in the morning.

It’s the first thing you see when you enter the church at your right. Michelangelo took only one and a half year to turno it from a piece of marble into this beautiful and touching sculpture. It’s really worth it!

This sculpture provides yet another example of Michelangelo's genius as a sculptor. Read up on it before you go. Not really able to get up close to it though.

I saw this many years ago before it was behind a protective barrier. It is just stunning . One of Michelangelo master pieces.

Having witnessed the opulence and sheer elegance and beauty of the Vatican Museaums and the gold leafed paintings, carvings and masses of marble statues, it was somewhat disappointing to be led into a darkened, almost squalid room. It was difficult to see anything and there were so many people, I began to panic as we were all squashed in tightly. It is perhaps better to watch a documentary of the Sistine Chapel or open up a book and see the photos than actually being there yourself.
