Country House Il Biroccio
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

The hotel is a little out of the way in the countryside down a country road, so be prepared! This only added to my enjoyment, but might put people off.
I personally thought it was a little piece of heaven, the views and swimming pool!
The breakfast was basic but authentic and delicious!
I wouldn't change a thing about his place.
I will definitely be returning.

We stayed for 10 days in this nice countryhouse and we enjoyed every minute of it. The view on the surrounding hills is very excellent. The swimming pool was every day very clean and the view of the sunset as from the pool was exceptional. Antonella, Gianni and Eugenio did their best to inform us about the region and in the evening we were sitting together with the other guests to enjoy their home made meals. To reach the house you must indeed use a 'white' road but it is a real good road despite what some others write about it : it is not an obstacle. The nearby cities like Urbino, Urbania, Gubiio and many others ( also the sea ) were very reachable. We loved the little villages and the good restaurants ( for example Casa Tintoria in Urbania ). Sorry to report, we came with high expectations largely due to tripadvisor reviews and were disappointed. The owners keep the place impeccably clean and the views are beautiful. But the food seems far below normal Italian standards and clearly not a part of the hospitality business that the owners relish. Guests who chose dinner paid a hefty fee and seemed quite disappointed. For an italy trip, that really detracts from the experience; you mainly are left to fend for yourself. Apartment didn't even have the most basic amenities like salt, coffee, oil ... so really you're left stocking the kitchen from scratch, which is quite harsh for guests arriving from many far places. And the hot water shower pressure was non existent, not sure whether it was just completely broken. On the upside, it is clean and the pool views are quite nice, but overall this experience didn't match most others we've had throughout Italy. If you come, stay a few days but this is not a week-long sort of place.

We stayed at il Biroccio for the third time this summer. And it was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were again impressed by the warm and friendly welcome, the excellent care and true love of the owners for their agriturismo and guests.
We again met some very nice people. It seems that the guests usually are people who appreciate and enjoy the same nice and friendly atmosphere that we do.
Furthermore we really enjoyed the delicious meals at il Biroccio. We always choose an apartment so we can cook for ourselves if we want to. But we rarely do because the food that Gianni, Antonella and Eugenio prepare is just so very tastful and delicious. And surprisingly different and creative every time.
Our children, 5 and 7 years old, also had a fantastic time and they made us promise them to return to il Biroccio because they like it so much. Although there were no other children this time to play with they really enjoyed our stay because the estate is so nice with many things to see. And offcourse they absolutely love the pool.
I noticed that another guest made some critical remarks. I can only explain this by saying that they must have expected something completely different, like an all inclusive beach resort or something. Il Biroccio is not that. It is a very nice and very comfortable country house with a brilliant family touch. If you appreciate a beautiful landscape with stunning views, excellent italian food and lovely people then this is the place to go. Did I mention that the owners are also musicians and that they treat their guests, at times, with some nice music and dance? Very, very enjoyable!

Room Tip: Choose a room if you want to eat at il Biroccio or a restaurant nearby. Choose an apartment if you w...

We booked this on the strength of the reviews here. Regret that our experience was entirely different.

There was no welcome to speak of, we immediately actually felt unwelcome. The room was quite small, also the bathroom. There was little space for our luggage and to walk around the bed. Not even a glass to drink from despite asking. We bought our own.

We booked dinner on the first night , we were the only guests. After much toing and froing it was decided we would eat together with the family outside. We smelt no cooking from the kitchen, and there seemed no one missing who might be doing it. Strange atmosphere. Pasta came, spaghetti, not freshly made, with tomato sauce, no bread, no Parmesan offered. Secondo, just for us, was cottoletta, I think, probably from the supermarket, dressed with rocket and tomato, it was tasteless. Then ice cream with chocolate sauce, no coffee offered. For this they charged 25euros per person wine and water extra. I did think an Autogrill may have been better!

It is quite isolated and for that reason you would expect an honesty fridge, or somewhere to put food for lunch if you wanted a quiet day by the pool. Other places do this.

The "off road"down and back is a nightmare, our poor hire car! We would not have used our own car on that road.

If you are a smoker you have hit the jackpot, it is even allowed in the bedrooms.

The views are good, similar to Umbria, but not unique. Yes there are butterflies, and hornets too.

Wifi is not in the rooms or by the pool, only near the office.

This place charges 120 euros per night, considerably more than far better places.

Not for us, may suit you perfectly!

Dear Guest,
clearly your stay here at Il Biroccio didn't meet your expectations.
I would like to point out that you have paid € 90,00 per room per night (bed and breakfast for 2 people) and not the € 120,00 you mentioned. 90,00 Euros is the amount we charge to all our guests for a room.
You decided to book in advance the dinner here for the day of arrival and we had the dinner all together because we usually eat with our guests.
It is a common practice in our Country House.
I was cooking while you were watching the Tv in our living room. Our kitchen is open to everybody, you can see what I cook.
We always cook fresh food. While we were eating together, you said several times that the food was delicious.
The recipe of spaghetti we prepared didn't need the Parmesan, for this reason it was not offered. We always bring the bread to our guests and at the end of the dinner we offered "Limoncello" instead of the coffee as it is usually more appreciated.
In Italy the fresh food of quality is expensive, especially the meat and the vegetables.
We think that the amount you paid is acceptable considering that normally in Italy with 20/25 Euros you just get a pizza,a drink and a coffee.
It is true that we do not have a fridge in the rooms, but we do have it in the apartments.
In any case you could have asked me to keep your food or water in our fridge, we do it often for our guests if they ask.
The road is indeed a "country" road, therefore it is not asphalted. Maintenance is always done.
I am really sorry if the views are so similar to Umbria, that's the centre of Italy. Marche is similar to Umbria and Toscana.
We suggest you, for the future, to choose a hotel instead of an Agriturismo/Country House.

Antonella

Well after being dazzled last yeat at Il Biroccio we 'hot footed' it back there this year to enjoy more of the same. Of course when you return somewhere that you really loved you dont expect it to match up to your first visit - but this one exceeded it. We were in trepadation about the weather - but it was wonderful. We knew what to expect re travel and accommodation and we were happy and comfortable with that. What we didnt expect was the family Minucci to give us a wonderful evenings entertainment of singing and dancing. What a talented bunch they are. The views are still breathtaking, the swimming pool is warm and the scent of flowers that drift around you in the evening when you sit under the pergola eating Antonellas delicious food all adds to an enchanting atmosphere. The strawberries and banana in red wine were delicious. I cant sing enough praises about Il Biroccio. This is a quality place - run by quality people.

Our stay at Il Biroccio was the most restful and charming of all our vacations in Italy! Even in November the views of the Montefeltro valley from all sides of Il Biroccio were magnificent. The hosts, Gianni, Antonella and Eugenio, were accommodating, friendly and welcoming; we were made to feel at home in a genuine manner, even with an invitation to a special birthday party!!! The traditional Italian family warmth was extended to us travelers with special recommendations for places to visit (San Leo, the caves of Frassasi, dinner in Urbania at La Tintoria, the coastal road from Cattolica to Pesaro, walks in the valley to the next town for caffe) which made us feel like friends as much as guests. We spent days in Urbino visiting our son attending University and enjoyed many very nice restaurants as well as the Palazzo Ducale. . My husband and I will always remember this restful vacation and would without hesitation plan a return trip to this particular Country House, Il Biroccio. It is perfect! Thanks Minucci family!
