Honestly, I don't.
The building is beautiful, the location...perfect, in the centre of the marvellous Urbino.
But then... you enter and you find a terribly thought (or not thought at all) reception, ugly, uncomfortable...
The rooms are large and ok, not for that price of course, it is a medium range old hotel that should cost not more than 70 euros for the service.
But breakfast was the worst, terribile light, dark, noisy, sad in the design and poor in offer and quality we preferred to look for a bar outside.
I always wonder why, with such beauties we have in Italy, we need to work that hard to make things so bad.

I was very excited when I booked this hotel as it's right in the centre of Urbino with parking. The rooms are tired beyond belief. The staff whilst friendly are just not able to accommodate simple requests. Air con not working- it can only be activated by management. Still not working, we'll move you to another -dismal- room where although working its so loud that sleep would be impossible. Sleep was impossible anyway as the beds are so rock hard. Request for kettle as tea making facilities are available- not tonight. Phone not working.
Only provided one set of towels had to go down to reception again to get another.

We didn't stay for breakfast as couldn't bear any more disappointment. Had booked for two nights but happily escaped after one.

This hotel should seriously rethink its whole attitude from the decoration to the ridiculous frilly white aprons on chambermaids. Urbino needs a good hotel and this isn't it!

From the pov of location this could be a great place but it doesn't even make adequate. The reception area looks like an auction room and the breakast area behind brought straight from a 1970's Russian railway station. An alarming elevator takes you to the the bedrooms themselves which are large and clean with old, though comfortable, furniture. Ours had a broken electric leatherette armchair which was interesting. The bathroom was well equipped.

All this could be forgiven at the right price but the real reason to avoid this hotel is that the room AC's are rigidly and centrally controlled by the front desk who seem to be under orders to save power at all costs. Despite our pleas to get some cold air our room was 27 degrees C when we arrived and 26 C when we left next morning. We were told that the systems were working 'normally' but other guests were having the same problems and equally upset. Opening the small window into the courtyard made things worse. The net effect on a hot August day was an involuntary sauna and the whole experience most unpleasant.

Room Tip: Demand working air conditioning

Urbino is a beautiful city but has a lack of good hotels. Therefore San Domenico seemed like the better place to stay. Its location is right in the heart of the old town
However , the hotel is old and poorly furnished. The rooms, though ample ,are dull . The A/C is very noisy and controlled by the reception.
Parking is convenient as it is part of the complex.
Despite everything, it would seem that San Domenico is one of the few choices in Urbino.

This could have been a great hotel. It is a converted monastery with spacious rooms in the very center of Urbino straight across from the Palazzo Ducale. Unfortunately, it is a total dump. The reception area looks like a yard sale, the hallways had all the charm of an infirmary, the furniture in the room is sparse, ugly, old and rickety (also from a yard sale, I guess), the air-conditioner kind of worked but was very temperamental.
The worst part was the beds that managed to be both hard as the floor and wobbly, the pillows were like bricks.

The only thing about the hotel that was helpful was their parking. For 12 Euros a night you can park right in the courtyard.

I am sure there are much better choices in the city.
