This is indeed one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant. The restaurant is a single simple and stylish room. The service was first rate - our Italian is atrocious and the waiter graciously took the time to translate the entire menu. But it is the food that is most memorable of all.
One of the starters was translated as 'crude meat' - we took a chance and were served a pat of raw beef - we hadn't eaten raw beef before but were more than happy to try this delicately flavoured meat served with a delicious salad. Our other stater - fried fish balls - was tasty but slightly less impressive. The show stopper was the main course - oxtail in a tomato based stew - utterly delicious, the meat was falling off the bone and the flavours were melt in the mouth. A side dish of long green chicory leaves cooked with garlic and a little hot spice was also something special. A simple dessert of mascarpone wrapped up a pretty fabulous evening. A bill of 80 euro for 3 courses for 2 and a bottle of wine seemed more than reasonable.

Some reviewers have been hard on this place. I took my mother there, no booking, lovely evening. Service was slow, but we had time. What's the rush! Mum doesn't eat much meat, she loved the Auvergne and a mix of cooked veges with pine nuts. Waitress very helpful with translation. We might go again tonight. A bit pricier than other places we've tried, but worth it.

Quanto Basta is a small "brasserie style" restaurant in Bologna downtown, located in a students' populated street.
Food is normally good, and the selction of good "price/quality" wines is good although too limited.
Service is good, not extremely friendly and a little slow.
A few tables, difficult to book.

Myself and my partner tried this restaurant as it's close to our home, on one of the most lively streets in Bologna and always has people in. We booked a meal on a Tuesday afternoon, for the coming Friday evening.

Positive points:
The main waitress (who happened to be the wife of the owner) was very helpful and attentive, suggesting what food was good to eat.
The wine we chose was not available but this waitress bought us another 2 bottles of a similar price range to choose from, and recommended her favourite of the 2.
Good portion sizes for the primi and secondi plates.

Negative points:
On arrival, 2 young waitresses asked if we had a reservation. We said yes, they looked at their reservation for the night and confirmed our table. Then for an unknown reason, there seemed to be a problem seating us so we were made to stand waiting for 5 minutes whilst these waitresses ran around. We were finally seated but with no menu, water or bread. We waited a further 10 minutes for a waitress to bring us a menu.
The antipasti plates were hugely overpriced and uninteresting.
Whilst the primi and secondi plates were tasty and satisfying, they were at best, good, home-style cooking. This would be great, apart from the fact this restaurant is priced higher than others in the centre of town who offer the same level of 'home-cooked'/traditional food.
After asking for the bill we waited 35 minutes and had to ask a further 2 times for the bill to be bought to us.

Overall, we wouldn't visit again and don't understand why this restaurant has been rated so highly.

We visited with friends. They were keen to have us try some food typical of further south. The foods were sourced from local producers the names of who are on the menu. The ingredients are fresh and the wine list good. The cost is reasonable
