A great place to stay in Bologna. Many restaurants and bars just round the corner. The owners are friendly and helpful, the room we stayed in had masses of individual charm and the breakfasts were simple but delicious.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in Bologna. We stayed in the red room which was very comfortable. Alberta doesn't speak much English and we speak no Italian but this was not a problem and we could always make ourselves understood to each other. She is a lovely host and even gave us her son's phone number in case we had any questions or issues she couldn't answer. We met her son Francesco who was very helpful and told us the best places to go to buy tortellini in the food market which was much appreciated. The breakfast at Alberta's was absoloutely fantastic - the best of our 3 week stay in Italy! Her capuccino's were amazing! For the price, this is a great b&b - very central and comfortable.

Room Tip: The red room was very comfortable.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October and really enjoyed our stay. Alberta and her son Francesco were very welcoming. The room was clean and well presented, as was the bathroom. The facilities were great. Alberta provided an excellent home-cooked breakfast every morning and Francesco in particular provided a number of recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We would be more than happy to stay here again and will recommend the B&B to all our friends. Thank you Alberta!

There is an uncharacteristic quirkiness or eccentricity to the accommodations at this B&B in the very heart of Bologna. But fear not, Alberta obviously has been a collector of memorabilia and vintage fashion items; and what better place to store this collection than in the unique rooms she lets out? The unassuming street entrance to her little compound is found along one of the many sidewalks covered by loggias in Bologna. At first you'll think, "This can't be it!" because years of wear and grime on the exterior of this medieval building disguises the tranqulity just beyond. You come down a corridor, through an iron gate and into a small garden with exotic plantings. Alberta's apartment is right there and she is ready to greet you warmly. Her rooms are scattered about around tiny courtyards and gardens and she asks her guests whether they would prefer breakfast delivered to their roooms or to one of the charming outside tables. My room was very spacious and included a long corridor with windows, storage and seating areas. The ample bathroom with shower was dated but fully functional.
The real deal here is the price ($90 per night for two in a room including breakfast, the quiet from the busy streets of Bologna (you'll appreciate a good night's sleep), and most of all the hospitality of Alberta. She knows Bologna and will set you in the right direction for restaurants, jazz, transportation, and sightseeing. You get the sense she wants to help you have a good and comfortable stay. In short, she aims to please her guests and that makes all the difference in the world when travelling. Hotels are expensive in Bologna and they tend to insulate you from the everytday life of this vibrant city. Let Alberta be your ambassador and you will not miss a beat!

After arriving to Bologna close to midnight and tired after a long day of travelling, Alberta kindly welcomed me and showed me my room — a beautiful big bed and a lovely bathroom with the biggest shower head I ever did see!
In the morning I was invited down for breakfast of quintessential coffee, rolls and home made jams - made from fruit harvested from friends' trees in the Emilia countryside. Although my italian is threadbare, Alberta unobtrusively makes our communication smooth and understood.
This place is a calm little oasis of delightful domesticity with an 'art of living' atmosphere. Until recently Alberta had worked as a leather bag designer and craftswoman, some of her exquisite crafts can be seen in the studio extension of her living room.
I can highly recommended Alberta D's B&B as a charming respite from the bustle of Bologna.

Room Tip: If in season, try Alberta's cherry jam

Where do I start? I chose this B&B because I thought the pictures showed a quirky and stylish little place but really had no idea what to expect. We arrived late and later than expected at nearly midnight but were met by a charming Alberta who, although only speaking a little English, dispelled my worries and instantly made us feel at ease. We were shown to a charming room, small but perfectly formed. The bed had wonderful linens and an orthopedic matress- honestly it was the best nights sleep I've had in ages and so quiet. I slept so well at Alberta D I wish I could live there! The bathroom is off suite but is private from the rest of the house- it's really like having your own little apartment with a key to your private door which contains a corridor, patio doors to the outside, your room and then finally the bathroom. Our corridor had lots of vintage handbags etc on display it was amazing. Breakfast was a delight. Jazz music filled the air and black and white movies graced the television screen. The large dining table was filled with every delight you could wish for from strawberries and cream, to homemade tarts, tiramisu (Italians like to do sweet for breakfast), bread, cereal, yoghurt, freshly made coffee, homemade jams and juices. Alberta was always on hand to offer you new things to try or replenish the coffee and food. I love animals and the nicest surprise at breakfast was meeting Cee-Cee the stunning Persian cat with a beautiful temperament. Heads up that you may want to consider this if you are allergic etc. The B&B is housed within a traditional apartment so you get your own keys and come and go as you wish. It has a great balance of being part of a home and also private. As mentioned, Alberta does speak some English and also French (I speak no Italian which I desperately hate), but her son Francesco is charming and usually on hand to assist with any advice you may need. Indeed, Francesco if you are reading this, thank you for your kind help and please tell your mother how much we adore her and enjoyed our stay. I am a handbag lover too and will practice my Italian so next time I can chat with her more. Bologna is a great city and this gem of a place is only 10 mins walk from the main square. I would come back in a heartbeat. This place should be in the top places to stay in Bologna- I suspect it just needs more guests to actually write a review and become established. If you cannot live with cosy rooms and animals then perhaps this place isn't for you- it's not a 5 star hotel it is what it is and is amazing because of it. There is also a separate apartment for those who want more space and extra privacy. If you want ultimate comfort, charm, a plentiful breakfast and a perfect host then do not hesitate- it's far from basic. I loved it- stay here and you wont regret it.

Room Tip: Go for the red room!

Thoroughly enjoyed a three-night stay. Located minutes walk away from Piazza Maggiore through Porta Nuova. Personalized breakfast with preserves made by Alberta. Quiet setting for peaceful nights. Charming and accommodating hostess with ready recommendations for jazz venues and dining.
