“Denied check in and now refusing a refund”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

Denied check in due to a technicality (travelling with my younger brother) and the hotel refused to change the booking date to allow me to provide the evidence requested.

Despite not providing accommodation the hotel is now refusing to refund the money paid - after two weeks of complaining, it has offered a voucher, redeemable before Aug 2014, which given I've returned to Australia is no use at all.

This hotel was excellent value for money. We stayed for three nights bed and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was very good all needs catered for. The reception staff were brilliant very friendly and helpful and helped me with my Italian as a new student to the language. The hotel room we stayed in may be considered by some to be a little outdated but it was very clean, it overlooked the garden with a small balacony and was very quiet, it may have been a different matter if the room was at the front facing the very busy station. It is in a perfect location facing the station for onward travel and the aerobus from the airport (just 6 euros). It is only a 15 stroll into the centre of the City. It is a very easy City to walk around and to find places of interest. Good restaurants close by.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden area are obviously much quieter than the onces facing Bologna Central Statio...

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located. The room was clean and spacious but quite aged with a thin smell of smoke. The rooms and corridors would need some renovations.

Not the best. To start with we were put in a twin room when we ordered a double. Once we were moved to a double it was actually two singles pushed together. There was only one towel in the room. The wifi is rather slow and logs you out all the time. The shower doesn't maintain a steady temperature. The view was also pretty horrible. If the hotel was claiming to be 2 or 3 stars I wouldn't be so bothered about the issues, but I would say our 1 star hotel in Siena "Albergo Bernini" was far nicer. On a positive note, breakfast was good, and staff were generally smily and helpful. The side garden is also very nice.

The thing about Mercure is, you expect a modern styled hotel but this one was a bit classic 'to keep it nice'. Room on the 6 floor was spacious with courtyard view. Good location near the trainstation and 15min walk to the center. Uninspiring breakfast. But really nice staff. Hotel a bit thorn down but clean!
