“Mercure Hotel Bologna City Center - Right across from the train station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2009

We stayed two nights at the Mercure Hotel in Bologna City Center. It was an old world hotel but very comfortable and clean. The room was quite large, modern bathroom, helpful staff. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, right across the street from the train station and near all the city center sights and shopping. We had a car and had to pay for parking which was 19 euros a day and pay for the internet which was also expensive. Better to use the internet point nearby. If you are traveling by train I would highly recommend this hotel for it’s convenience to the station.

We secured an outstanding rate for the Mercure Bologna Centro, and when we arrived we had realistic expectations - for around 50 euros a night in a city centre, perhaps the rooms are miniscule, or the decor is faded. Neither turned out to be true - rooms were immaculately clean and richly furnished in a conventionally comfortable style, they were a decent size, and the bathroom was well stocked with good toiletries. There was complimentary mineral water in the small refrigerator, and every other amenity. Directly opposite the railway station, but not seedy, the hotel was a short walk from Bologna's remarkable historic centre, with incredible architecture and galleried streets. The shuttle bus to Bologna Marconi Airport could not have been more convenient. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was expensive, at 10 euros, for a fairly limited selection, but we liked the Mercure, and were happy to recommend it.

We only stayed here one night on our way to somewhere else. The hotel is obviously geared towards business travellers, but we found it fine for this. It is in an easy and convenient location, across the road from the train station but not much of a walk into the main part of the town either.

When we first arrived we were given a room on the station side which was quite noisy and didn't have any shutters at all. Also it was very cold and having put the heater on an hour previously the room was still freezing. We told the front desk about the problem and they apologised and moved us with no hassle to another room that was better laid out, on the quiet side looking onto the courtyard with shutters, and most importantly the heating worked. So perhaps asking for a room that faces onto the courtyard would be a good tip.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cheap deal for a night or two, in a convenient location for the train.

Superb hotel. Fantastic location - easy access to city, train station and central bus station (easiest way to Forli and Ryanair flights). Clean rooms. Only issue was they didn't get very cool because air conditioning was weak. But it was still comfortable!

Breakfast is extra and we didn't indulge.

Don't get a coffee near the hotel - it'll cost you about 4 Euro when it should be 1.50!

Be advised - the last bus to Forli is at 7.30. So if you're taking a late Ryanair flight....you're going to have to prepare for a long wait in a small airport...

We have just returned from a long weekend in Florence and Bologna, staying in Mercure Centro for one night only.

We chose the Mercure because of its proximity to the train and coach stations as the stopover was intended to ease the journey back to Forli airport, from where we were flying back to the UK early in the morning.

Its location didn't disappoint. Ideal for travellers as it is literally opposite the railway station.

Room was spacious with a very large bed (2 singles connected together). Bathroom was a bit dated but fine.

Didn't have breakfast as we were leaving too early and it probably wouldn't have been worth the extra 10 euros per person.

Hotel is about 15 mins walk from centre, but easy to find by going straight down Via Dell'Indepenza.

Bologna itself was a nice enough city. Wouldn't particularly rush back, as it is not in the same league as Florence, but was nice and convenient for a stop off on the way back to airports.

To sum up, its fine for a brief stop.

I spent 45 E/night for the hotel, as I booked and pay in advance (via their web site).

For this price, it was very convenient, and the overall quality is acceptable.

Furniture is a bit old, the air conditioning is both noisy (it costantly wakes me up early in the morning) and relatively cooling (I guess it's blocked to save electricity costs), so if I had to pay the full price of 120 E/night I would have been very disappointed.

Hotels in Italy are not cheap and may have poor quality.
At this hotel I got a good size double room /single use for 80 euros/night with buffet breakfast. It has a very nice private garden on the back that you see from the windows of the bedrooms facing that way.
Very clean, tidy and pleasently decorated. Everything you need for a bussiness stay they have it. Bathroom with hairdrayer and ironing machine for pants in the bedroom. Very nice smelling shampô and body wash available.
Internet is available hy-speed in the room with laptop or with the TV. Also available at the hotel lobby.
Centraly located, just in front in the main railway station and the stop of the aerobus to and from the airoport. (it usually leaves every quarter of the hour at bussiness hours.
Within fair walking distance of the historical center of the city.
This will be my hotel of referece when I go back there.
Most of the times they have special rates on the internet, that I got this time. The usual price rate is 150 euros /night.

  • Liked — The room facing the garden
  • Disliked — the airconditioner was a litlle noisy and the metal door outside the window was hard to open on the first day
