Do hoteliers have time for holidays? If they do, they ought to head for the Majestic in Bologna as very few would not pick up a tip or two about how a serious hotel ought to be run. Where does a reviewer start with the praise as this place is just faultless? Perfect location right in the centre of the city, but remarkably quiet at night; elegant historic building, fabulously maintained and decorated, and unfailingly spotless; efficient, professional and attentive staff in every department. It really is a 'Grand Hotel' in the best sense of that great tradition, yet has every modern convenience. However, it is the attention to detail that is really memorable. There was a trio of friendly concierges who would rush to open taxi doors or the hotel's front doors, always with a welcoming smile ; then there were the warm greetings of the reception staff who seemed to know the answer to ever question; and an army of delightful staff in the breakfast room, especially Julia who everyone seems to love, but her colleagues were all excellent too.
Our room was fabulous. I've never slept in pure linen before, but in a hot climate it is so refreshing - I'm a convert from cotton. The 'room fairies' provided new bed linen every day and turned it down while we were out at dinner as well as replinishing the supply of luxury toiletries; and the 'fruit fairy' came each day to replenish our fruit bowl and provide fresh napkins and cutlery.
If you are planning to visit Bologna, it might be our one and only trip, so give yourself a treat. The Majestic is not cheap, but you will not be disappointed, I can assure you. Indeed, I really think this is one of the very best hotels anywhere in the world.

This hotel lives up to its name with beautiful and majestic rooms, service and a breakfast that is so lovely both the room and the staff that you don't want to go on with your day.
After a terrible hotel experience in Scerni Abruzzo.. the worst I have ever had, I decided to treat myself to two days of luxury and I wasn't disappointed. Just what the doctor ordered.
The front desk staff deserves special mention. They were just great for a weary traveler recommending delightful dining options.
Definitely THE place to stay if you have the budget! A great memory. Thank you.

The staff and the service really make this hotel great. The room was good size but I little dark with the old style drapes and wall coverings. The bathroom was modern with double sinks in our deluxe room. The breakfast was exceptional with the staff being super helpful (especially Julia). The central location is hard to beat just in the middle of the old town off of Piazza Neptune. Just a 10-15 minute walk from the train station.

We loved this hotel. Our room was elegant, spacious, generously equipped, but also very comfortable and inviting. We were in Bologna in extreme heat, and the hotel provided a cool haven to dash back to, - in between bursts of exploring historic sights, shopping, eating etc. It is very centrally situated and convenient, and the bar and eating areas offer a great range of options. The breakfast was a very generous and classy one with endless cappuccinos on offer.
Above all the staff were unanimously pleasant and helpful. Massimo at the front desk recommended us to two eating spots and they were both excellent, fun and not excessively expensive. We will certainly go back some day.

Room Tip: De Luxe Double and 'recently renovated' will get you something lovely.

The hotel is located centrally and within 10 minute walking distance of most major sights. The restaurant here is luxurious with delicious options, excellent staff. Our room was well-appointed and nicely kept. Best thing about this hotel is the wonderful staff- extremely helpful- especially the doorman and bellman. We arrived in the evening and the street that the hotel was on was closed off for a church processional; the GPS we had could not get us close to the hotel. We called the hotel, and a bellman came to us and drove the car to the closest point to the hotel. We got out and he took the car to the hotel parking lot and had baggage brought to the room. We cannot say enough nice things about the staff; they made our experience very enjoyable when it might have otherwise been quite challenging.
