Stayed here April '14 for 2 nights as family of 4.
1 of our room had seen better days, bathroom ceiling showed signs of leakage and airco needed complicated reset every time the key was taken out... But besides this small inconvenience, we were very happy with this hotel. Staff was friendly, beds were very good, the breakfast buffet was extensive and the hotel is strategically located opposite the station on the edge of old city center.

I was staying here for 2 nights on business trip. Hotel is very clean and has spacious rooms. Breakfast is superb. Only bad side is wi-fi that is free for only 1 hour (this shouldn't be the case in 21st century) and it was a bit complicated to connect. Parking is not free but at least you are confident your car is safe. Location is very good. All in all, I will stay there again when I come to Bologna.

We stayed at the Starhotels Excelsior as part of a Easter Weekend city break, and had no idea that this would end up being one of the best hotels we've been to anywhere in Europe. The hotel is clean and modern. The lobby is nicely designed, and the staff at the reception desk were friendly and professional. We arrived just a bit past 1300, and no room was available yet for us to check in. This was not a problem, and after putting our bags into the storage room, we went out to explore Italy' food capital. We were not disappointed. Bologna is a food lover's paradise, and with places like Tamburini and Simoni to enjoy Bolognese ragu infused lasagna and 36 month aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, no one visiting this city goes hungry. When we returned to the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that we'd been upgraded to a premium room on the 7th floor. Our room was large, quiet and had an extra large bathroom. There were large, high quality all cotton towels, and even a robe and slippers available. The room also came with complimentary teas and coffee. The TV had enough channels in Italian, English, German and French to satisfy even the most seasoned traveler. But the best part of this room was the bed. It had what might be the most comfortable mattress either of us had experienced anywhere outside of our own bedroom. The breakfast buffet was fresh, well stocked and the coffee and cappuccino nothing short of what you'd expect in Italy. All in all, the Starhotels Excelsior is most probably your best bet if you're lucky enough to visit Bologna.

Room Tip: Ask for something on the 7th floor

Spent four nights and one night at beginning and end of holiday. Excellent for proximity to train station and reasonable walk to centre of city. Only grouse the miserable 60 continuous minutes of free wi-fi.

we booked this hotel, about 4 months ago, to get a good price. The hotel was full by the time we arrived. Bonus, we got an upgrade to a suite, due to a conference taking place. The hotel is clean, spacious, modern and opposite the train station. our room was at the rear of the hotel, which is the best place, as no air con/heating until summer/winter, so we kept the windows open until late, the front can be a bit noisy due to the traffic. The room was excellent, comfy bed (queen size) marble bathroom, plenty of toiletries. The Airport bus stops at the train station (opposite the hotel), the walk into the centre takes about 15-20 min (depending on pace) but a nice stroll past the shops, etc.
Breakfast: Modern and comfy, plenty of choice, from cereals- pastries-cold meats-cheeses-fruit-eggs-sausages etc.
All in all, we were not disappointed, another great hotel.

Room Tip: Hotel room at the rear, higher floor.

15 minutes after hopping of my train I was in my hotel room!! Although my room faced the station, it was QUIET!! My room size was excellent and bathroom a good size too! Their towels are the softest!! Reception staff were very informative - free wifi available - an hour at a time, but no trouble to obtain multiple access codes. The breakfast was lovely. Easy walk to the centre of town. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a tired property, worn furnishings, stains in carpet. Overdue for renovation. The staff is unwelcoming in the extreme. Inflexible in their rules. There are so many better choices in this interesting city.
