Zanarini was probably the most up-market café we visited on our stay in Bologna. It can get very popular and tables become scarce. The quality of the beverages may, (or may not), have been more expensive than competitors but everything we ate or dank on all our stops was excellent. The quality of the items one could graze on during aperitivo time was excellent and I've saved the best for last.
After a mildly disappointing wine-bar lunch, we didn't have a dessert but instead, walked round the corner to Zanarini. The day before I had spotted a display cabinet, bursting with mini cakes and pastries. So we got a seat, ordered two coffees and enquired about the cakes. The waiter knew what we were taking about and simply asked, “Do you want five or ten”? Well...whaddaya think! Within minutes, two small cake-stands appeared, loaded with the most delicious little morsels. For the next fifteen minutes, my wife and I nibbled and shared one of the best desserts on holiday.
