“Central with Outdoor eating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

We visited this restaurant twice over 4 days in Bologna due to its central location and outdoor seating. It is in a tourist area and therefore a little more expensive but worth it. We sat for a few hours enjoying aperitivo and no one hassled us to hurry up. The mini-club sandwiches were lovely and filling for lunchtime. Just a nice place to watch the Italians on Sunday or the world go by as you relax.

“Not worth the time”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

When we were walking around Bologna, Cafe Zanarini looked very tempting, so the next day, when my sister and I were craving a cup of hot chocolate we went there. We decided that outdoor seating is a good choice. After a while a waiter came with menus, so far everything is ok, just like in any other tourist trap. After a sligthly longer while we got some other waiter's attention and we ordered two cups of hot chocolate and whipped cream. I have to admit that the cream was excellent. Chocolate has to get its own credits too, it was semisweet and thick and very tasty. But after we finished with it and our cups were carried away it seemed to be almost impossible to get our bill. We have to ask two waiters in totally three times and wait for it for 40 minutes (twice the time we spend on sit-order-get the chocolate-finish it). I am quite convinced that if we left without paying hardly anyone would note it. But we are good girls. For sure I will never go there again, but it seems that staff there knew it from the first sight and then do everything to make it so. If you decide to go there, be prepared to enjoy pigeons company, there is plenty of them walking on tables and sitting on backs of chairs begging for your food.

“A classy cafe, with impeccable produce.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2013

Zanarini was probably the most up-market café we visited on our stay in Bologna. It can get very popular and tables become scarce. The quality of the beverages may, (or may not), have been more expensive than competitors but everything we ate or dank on all our stops was excellent. The quality of the items one could graze on during aperitivo time was excellent and I've saved the best for last.

After a mildly disappointing wine-bar lunch, we didn't have a dessert but instead, walked round the corner to Zanarini. The day before I had spotted a display cabinet, bursting with mini cakes and pastries. So we got a seat, ordered two coffees and enquired about the cakes. The waiter knew what we were taking about and simply asked, “Do you want five or ten”? Well...whaddaya think! Within minutes, two small cake-stands appeared, loaded with the most delicious little morsels. For the next fifteen minutes, my wife and I nibbled and shared one of the best desserts on holiday.

This place is class.

“One if the best cafes in Bologna”

Great outdoor seating near the best shopping. Really good coffee and snacks are really good. Try their cheese plate and the prosciutto plate. Really a nice sampling of Italian cheeses. Pastries are really yummy!

“Death by cake and ice cream”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013 via mobile

A fantastic central location, mouthwatering selection of cakes, ice cream, tortes etc....pick your cake, take it to the bar and order coffee etc and pay for it all then. The lemon and strawberry cake is light as a feather and sharp and fruity!
Fabulous place to relax and watch the world go by
