My G/F and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in a double deluxe room. We really enjoyed the property. It had the feeling of an "old school" european luxury hotel. The room was good sized with classic decor and furnishings. Great all marble bathroom. Very quiet and comfortable. Large breakfast area with a excellent selection of fruits and baked goods. Friendly and helpful staff. Right in the middle of the pedestrian action and a 5 minute walk to Plaza Maggiore with loads of restaurants, shops and open air markets. Excellent property to stay at when exploring Bologna.

Room Tip: Book a deluxe double room for a roomier experience.

The Corona d'Oro is an excellent hotel. Its location, down a quiet street. Everything is within easy walking distance. Right near the hotel are bars and restaurants and the main square is just a skip away.

You cannot find any fault in this hotel - they think of every detail. The beds are super comfortable, the linens lovely and our room (No. 214) had the largest bathroom we have had in Europe. A marble bathroom with a huge walk-in shower. There was a small terrace looking onto a courtyard and in the distance, a tower could be seen.

Reception were super efficient and charming and the buffet breakfast has something for everybody. The breakfast room is beautifully decorated, as are all the public areas with art pieces dotted here and there. In the evening the lobby lounge is laid out for drinks and nibbles.

We have stayed at one of the sister hotels, which was also excellent but when we return we will reserve the Corona d'Oro once more.

Great location minutes from Piazza Maggiore and the markets. Actually minutes from most things really. Nice rooms, not large but standard hotel size. Good amenities, good linen and very clean.
Breakfast extensive, liked the herbal tea infusion machine, and goes until 11am.

This is the first time I have stayed here since the hotel was modernised a few years ago.

The building is really quite stunning with a strong art deco look but every modern convience. It was a palazzo of a rich family from some centuries ago.

The staff are very helpful and friendly and the room had just about any extra you could think of including a surf able tv and a set of scales in the bathroom (which we did not use as we drank and ate much too much on this trip).

The only thing missing was a coffee set up in the room.

Large deluxe room with a massive bed tastefully decorated and just right for our first trip abroad since the wedding.

I am a regular visitor to Bologna for over 20 years. I have tried a number of hotels, but now always stay at the Corona d'oro. Its charming and highly recommended. The furnishings are lovely, staff welcoming and the location ideal and surprisingly quiet. If you take thr BLQ bus in from the airport and get out in the Via dell'Indipendenza, its a 2 minute walk to the hotel.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Bologna's historic centre, located on an atmospheric side street with a small market and some interesting shops. Quiet at night. Our room was wonderful with a really comfortable bed, good quality furnishings and superb marble bathroom. The public areas are even more impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful although perhaps falling just short of five - star standards.
The hotel offers free wifi and bike hire - Bologna is quite a compact city, so ideal for exploring on bike. The city is vibrant and I have no hesitation in recommending this luxurious hotel as an ideal base for your stay there.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Just a short distance from the two Towers and Piazza Maggiore, in the serene setting of medieval Bologna, you will find the Hotel Corona d'Oro 1890. Its peaceful location, just a hundred meters from the two towers, is the perfect base for your visit to Bologna: its elegant furnishings and magnificent frescoes, together with a staff that is exceptionally attentive to your needs, will make your stay at our Hotel unforgettable. The palazzo, which in the 15th century was the prestigious residence of the noble Azzoguidi family, traces its origins to the 13th century. The hotel takes the visitor on a journey through various stylistic and architectural eras: from the magical art deco in the lobby, back to the frescoes of coats of arms and landscapes from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and back still further to the medieval severity of the coffered ceilings which adorn the Azzoguidi conference hall and the stately portico outside. The thoroughly renovated Hotel Corona d'Oro provides upscale amenities that ensure a luxurious and comfortable stay, fitting for even the most discerning of guests. It also offers first-class suites and spaces for conferences, meetings, and exhibitions, all of which feature independent access. ... more   less
