“Great Location and Hotel Restaurant”
Reviewed 22 March 2014

Superb location; walk to sights, shopping, restaurants, and bars. Rooms are comfortable. Front desk service was a bit uneven; some personnel were warm and friendly and offered terrific recommendations, others were less enthusiastic. The hotel's restaurant is excellent for lunch and dinner; the pasta bolognese is spectacular; you can also get room service. When my wife and I visit Bologna again, we will definitely stay here again.

The location couldn´t be better, on a quiet street, just a few steps from the central Piazza, but still reachable by car. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was an experience itself, in a friendly, charming atmosphere. I got a regular, non-themed room, which was very pleasing. The pillow-menu was put to service and suceeded. I would definitely stay again at Cappello Rosso.

Dear Chris,

thank you so much for your review.
I am glad you enjoyed the stay at the apartment. I think that is a nice solution for families as you say, and also for long stays.
I am sorry about your impression on our staff: all of us take very good care in the relationship with the guests and we actually never have complaints about it. We are generally very attentive.
I have investigated the matter and the lady was just organising all the luggage that was left for storage while the other colleague was taking care of the guests, in a moment of big confusion when all our guests were leaving at the same time. She was then just making sure that luggage was stored properly and safely!

I hope you will come back soon and enjoy another holiday in Bologna and with us.
Kind regards,

Marianna

Just around the corner from Piazza Maggiore, this hotel is worth a visit if even for a night. I stayed in the Typewriter Room which was fantastic - a themed room decorated with Ray Bradbury quotes, a proper typewriter on the wall and keys on the ceiling (you'll just have to see for yourself). I must also note that it's also just a few minutes from Ristorante Da Nello (spectacular dinner suggested by Al Cappello Rosso reception staff; see review). Great location and stunning hotel... I have no arguments.

The room was extremely clean (my experience stands that Italy is the cleanest country I have ever visited) and comfortable. Very spacious with lots of storage. The bathroom was large with a gorgeous tub. A robe and slippers were provided and there were little "extras" in the bathroom to accompany the usual shampoo and soaps...I can't remember what they were but it was along the lines of ear plugs, shower cap, shoe polisher, nail scrubber, etc. I brought my luggage up to the room before heading back down for dinner and upon my return to my room for the night, I was pleasantly surprised to find a soft little rug placed at the side of my bed that sweetly read, "bonne nuit." I know, French, but still.

The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. As mentioned, reception directed me to eat at Nello for dinner and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Gorgeous. The halls were fancifully decorated and the space around the doors of the special rooms (I didn't get a good look at every door) gave hints to what might be found inside. Really neat. I loved it.

Not one complaint at all. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for something different from the usual chain accommodation. If you book in advance, you will find that it can even be cheaper than your typical hotel (otherwise, it can get pricey).

Cappello Rosso is a splendid boutique hotel, close to Piazza Maggiore, and worth every bit of its 4 star superiore designation. Very friendly and helpful staff (necessarily I suppose, since we were upgraded to a junior suite). The wife prefers twin beds as we thrash about a bit in our sleep. Staff were ready instantly to separate the beds in the room, but we found a vast double bed, bigger than our superking at home - a real sleeping platform which could accommodate 3 adults easily (but we are not into troilism!), so no adjustment needed. Very nicely furnished room, impeccable bathroom, The suite had a small balcony looking into the small garden, furnished with interesting statues. Restaurant is a friendly bistro style room serving good italian breakfasts (the caffe americano was nicely strong). We only did a New Years Eve dinner there, which was a 5 course affair over 3 hours. Good food and we were allowed to go into the Piazza for the burning of "Il Vecchio" at midnight together with a very decent bottle of frizzante to celebrate in the cold - most other diners had probably done this many times before and stayed in the warm to finish their drinks. Plenty to do in Bologna (including trips to Ravenna, Ferrara, Modena etc) and apparently less clogged with tourists. Cappello Rosso had some nice touches - free umbrella and bikes (not needed), ditto golf clubs. A great place to base ourselves in Bologna. Stylish but informal. Definitely a place to return to.

Room Tip: Room 101 is the magic suite!

One-night-only stay.
Very down-town wonderful location.
Hotel is little but nice and comfortable. People are friendly, breakfast is Italian style and cappuccino is super.
Price is not cheaper, but it is down-town Bologna.

Wow! What an amazing room! Beautiful design and yes, pink. The "Shock in Pink Room 202" is dedicated to the legendary fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli and there are plastic lobsters. Hooray. The room was large, beds comfortable and the bathtub amazing. The hotel is located steps away from the Piazza Maggiore and a plethora of dining and shopping options. Love the sharing library concept too. Staff was welcoming and very helpful. Really enjoyed my three night stay here.
