“Amazing place”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

I have been there just for a couple of days, but I felt like home. Hotel is placed in a very nice part of Bologna, near amazing park and also few minutes from center, by walking. Workers are very nice, food is great and rooms are clean.
In one word perfect place for staying ..

Awesome. Best stay in our entire 7 day Italy trip. These guys go out of their way to make you feel home, upgrade you. Do yourself a favor and if on the fence, go for this.

We were provided good recommendations in the city. We were both on a holiday so not a business visit. The city is good, laid back but not too many English speakers, which is understandable. The hotel desk and other staff even helped me figure out a place to fix my bag! Bologna was fun and a good sensory and culinary experience. Not in the least made possible by their support. Thanks a lot! Memorable trip for me.

Room Tip: Ask for upgrade to Superior with balcony

The hotel is located at the rim of the old town, but just 10 min walk to the Piazza Maggiore. It has a small gate, but inside a beautiful yard and garden! The staffs are all very nice and warm. We stayed for only 1 night and would catch the early morning flight. So we were arranged to the room at the end of the garden, very quiet, private and comfortable. It feels like we were in our own little house. The room is spacious, well decorated. The bed very comfortable. The yard and garden very lovely. The stay is impeccable, the only regret is that we missed the breakfast which according to other review, should be very good. And the hotel own 2 cats! One of them, Marquis, is extremely nice, cute and plum!

Only 1 point to remind: if the hotel suggest you the restaurant BIAGI, DO NOT GO! The hotel staff meant good, because it were ourselves who mentioned that we did not want to walk and just wanted to have dinner nearby (what a big mistake! We ruined our last meal in Italy!) Try other restaurant near by or, if you have time, walk to the center. The Da Nello is pretty good.

Room Tip: The room 402 at the end of the yard is very nice, Kind of separated from other rooms, quite and priv...

We have just returned from a very relaxing three night stay at Hotel Porto San Mamolo. We wanted a quieter spot rather than stay right in the centre and the hotel fitted the bill perfectly, just a pleasant 15 minute walk to Pazza Maggiore. Our room was a good size, peaceful and overlooked an olive tree in the courtyard garden. We arrived at midday and were expecting only to be able to leave our luggage but the lady in charge of reception went to a lot of trouble to enable us to check into our room straight away, perfect after our early start that day. Not wanting to venture too far the first evening, we took their recommendation to dine at the very local restaurant which was excellent. All the staff were very helpful and professional and we enjoyed our breakfasts in the lovely garden room. Always a great sign when there is L'Occitaine in the bathroom! We will definitely book in again when we return to Bologna.

The Hotel is within walking distance of all the spots in the old section and is a short bus ride from the central train station. It is small but very comfortable and a perfect stay if you do not require the full service amenities of the major chain hotels. The staff are terrific. Any request for reservations, assistance, directions or other is met courteously and handled promptly. Each of the staff was very helpful, cheerful and just a pleasure to be around. Our room was large, very comfortable and always spotlessly clean and had a large bathroom with shower only by request. I highly recommend the Porta San Mamolo if you prefer small, intimate lodgings and not the large monolithic big hotels.
