“Excellent hotel & facilities but the majority of staff couldn't care less”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2009

The hotel Europa is located very close to the station, a 5 minute walk. We did a trip to Florence for the day (1 hour) by train. It is about 15 minutes walk down to Piazza Maggiore, the central part of town. Our first impression of the hotel was not good. The man who was on reception when we checked in was really rude. He wanted to keep our passports and give them back to us later simply because he couldn't be bothered to photocopy them. We asked some basic questions which required information especially as it was Holy Week and we wanted to know about the religious services and he couldn't answer them. That evening when we came back a different man was on and he was extremely helpful and gave us alot of information (during our visit he was the only one). We stayed 4 days there and during that time we found the reception staff, women included less than pleasant and very unhelpful. This brings me to the other point on all three mornings, we were woken at 8.30am by the housekeeping staff. They seemed to take great delight in banging the doors of rooms loudly shut, banging their vaccum cleaner into walls and speaking at the top of their voices. The rooms have a red light on the outside which indicates it is occupied yet cleaning staff had absolutely no consideration for guests who may have been asleep. On a positive note, the breakfast was excellent value and included. You could eat as much as you liked with cereals, croissants and other pastries, eggs, bacon, ham, salami , fruit, yoghurt etc.. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend the restaurant La Mela at 5 Via Fusari for dinner. Also the Basilica Di San Domenico is worth a visit, it has a beautiful cloister and St Domenic's tomb is there. I also enjoyed the market area off Piazza Maggiore. Also Eataly is a great place for food lovers to enjoy a glass of wine and some traditional food. Bologna is a beautiful city to explore with its covered walk ways and much more. If hotel service doesn't bother you then this is a good location to stay.

Stayed one night in this beautiful, spaciouse hotel on a layover. Found it through Tripadvisor reveiws, all of which were positive as I also found it to be so. The rooms are well appointed with excellent beds and lovely linens. The bathroom was elegant with a huge glassed in shower and heavy terry towels and bath robe(more 5star than the 4 this hotel has) However the BEST part was the breakfast, served in a large dining room and inclusive of everything one can immagin for breakfast. There were eggs in every form, bacon, cold cuts, cheeses, yoghurts, fresh brioches and scores of other pastries and breads, fresh and preserved fruits, juices(even freshly squeezed carrot juice) a gourmet choice of teas and af course excellent coffee and cappuccino--all this servedwith the cordiality tipical of the people of emilia-romagna!

The Europa was good value - we were a small group and they gave us an excellent price. Our room was small but reasonably comfortable. However, soundproofing was poor - we could hear people walking about in the room overhead. Like other reviewers, the room temperature was problematic - very hot even though there was snow on the gorund otuside. Opening a window let in icy blasts! Breakfast was good.It was a long walk from the main square - could be a problem in the heat of summer.
An aside: for eating out we thoroughly recommend Trattoria Tony in Via A Righi - it is so unpretentious that you would walk right past it. An Italian firiend introduced us to it - superb Bolognese food and utterly charming service

We stayed here for business trip 3 days. Wifi was expensive €88 for the week or €21 per day.
There was some noise coming from somewhere waking you up at 6AM continuing to around 9.
Heating in room did not work properly. It was 4 degrees outside and 14 in the room. Not freezing but let us say it was not comfortable. The only place heating worked was in the bathroom.
Breakfast buffe was poor in quality and choice.

At least the rooms were clean, which is the only positive thing I can say.

Stayed for 3 nights in July 2008. We found the hotel and the staff excellent. The rooms were a good size, clean and had air conditioning. The food for breakfast was also good. It was a 5 minute walk to the train station and about 10 -15 minutes’ walk to the main square. We felt very safe and would recommend this hotel and Bologna to anyone.

Great Hotel, short walk from city centre and close to train station. room was very clean and well presented bedding changed evryday along with towels and toiletries,
Air conditiononing fantastic and not very noisy, Reception and resterant staff very helpful.

Only problem was the Swiss com internet that debit credit card with 49 euros then after you log off charge you the amount used and refund the difference 5 days later.

Would reccomend this hotel!

Just returned from visiting Bologna on a last minute trip and it was terrific.

The hotel is upmarket and situated in the business quarter within a few blocks of city centre. There are many ways to quickly access the shopping centres, parks and restaurants from here.

The breakfast is buffet style and there is a broad variety on offer including pastries, fresh fruits, yoghurts, cold meats, cheese and even some scrambled egg and bacon. Every kind of tea and of course impeccable italian coffee. There is no restaurant or bistro in the hotel but then you are surrounded by them.

Rooms are definately superior although no tea tray in rooms or ironing facilities yet there are slippers, dressing gowns and every kind of bathroom toiletry!

Public rooms are also well appointed.
