“Superb. Do not miss it.”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

The Pinacoteca has a good collection that is interestingly displayed... not as large as the museums you might find in other Italian cities but several great pieces by the masters. Giotto, Raphael, Titian... many more. A wonderful hour or two. Well worth a visit.

“Only small but quiet”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

Only small but a nice way to kill an hour. Highlights were Giottos Polyptych and the works by Guido Reni. Also fun to try and spot images of Bologna in the works!

“The Bolognese school”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

The paintings in this city museum are well hung and lit. There are some good early renaissance paintings but the main strength of the collection are the Bolognese painters of the 17th century, too busy and big for my taste, but worth getting to know.

“Quite a collection”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

First of all, don't believe opening hours posted on their website - they are NOT open 9AM-7PM. We visited the gallery on Friday and it was open 2PM-7PM (but part of the gallery closes at 3:30 PM when another part opens - really confusing, but I assume it's for the good of the paintings). Ticket is 4 euros, and you get small paper guide.

Around 90% of the paintings in Pinacoteca are religious in nature - I'm fine with that but my wife gets bored easily when she sees crucifix for the hundredth time. Most of the art is well lit and displayed (but there're some huge paintings in narrow walkways, so be prepared for neck aches). There're nice and comfy seats everywhere, positioned strategically, so you can seat and enjoy. Collection size is perfect - not small, but also not overwhelming. I'm not a big fan of medieval art, but the rest was fine - most of the artist were somehow associated with Bologna.

The best part - no crowds. I guess strange opening hours discouraged most of the visitors.
