Cattedrale di Parma

Having the luxury of time in Parma, over two weeks, I have been able to indulge in multiple visits to Duomo and I think it' ranks as one if the most beautifully painted I've ever seem. From every angle and perspective it is a feast for the eyes. Don't rush through and if you have only one day in Parma( shame to not take longer) then have a coffee or gelato and return so that you have the opportunity to sink a little deeper into the experience

It really is worth taking the time to read up about this fresco and to look at it in detail - not easy, so bring binoculars and, if it helps, a mirror.

This is one of the nicer cathedrals I have seen throughout Italy. Every inch has beautiful decorations, frescoes, etc. While the outside is also quite impressive as well, the inside of this one is worth a minimum of an hour to really do it justice. No entry fee either, so this really has to be one of my favorites from my recent Tuscany trip.

I visited the Cathedral a couple of years ago after living near Parma for 18 years, but as normal we tend to explore further afield without knowing your local area perhaps as well as you should.

The Cathedral has some magnificent examples of Caravaggio's work and is richly decorated for an Italian church. Close by to the church is also the Baptistery well worth a visit.

Absolutely worth a visit if in Parma, probably the top attraction. Inside, the highlight is the frescoed cupola. Some of the chapels are interesting too, including one that was commissioned by a woman in memory of her brother who died in WWI.
