“Fabulous Correggio ceilings!”
Reviewed 13 November 2012

What an absolute little treasure in Parma! This small convent has some incredible paintings of the young Correggio. The ceilings are beautifully restored to all of their magnificence, especially the playful cherubs, and are a delight to discover. Highly recommended, and only 2 euros to see!

“Quiet gem, a very pleasant approach to a private sanctuary”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

The tree-lined, narrow walkway to the Camera is so pretty and quiet, and the mood follows you into the building. We quite enjoyed trying to decipher our poorly translated guidebook to orient ourselves under the Correggio ceilings, which are the reason to visit the Camera. Even my engineer husband could understand the "breakthrough" syle of the paintings. While the putti are amusing and fun to see, the monchrome "lunettes" are sublime! Because of it's tranquility and exquisite scale, the Camera brought to mind the lovely Sainte Chapelle in Paris--but without the mobs of tourists.

“Putti Everywhere! You will think: I've died and gone to Heaven!”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

Before going to Parma, I checked the TA site for attractions and found the Camera di San Paolo with some wonderful pictures…I thought “I must see this” and such is the power of TA; the lovely photos people posted with their reviews sent me to this convent!

This is a lovely, old convent, which dates back to the 10th century, when the Benedictine Nuns decided to commission Corregio, (when he was just a pup and starting out) one of the masters of the Italian Renaissance to fresco the main rooms. The colors that were used are amazing and look as if they were done just last week! It’s an opportunity to see Corregio’s paintings up close. I loved the recreations of mythological scenes and all the lovely cupids/angels/putti flying just overhead. Although it’s very small, it only costs 2 Euros and is worth every cent! The small book called Parma: Guide to the City and the Province has a good section devoted to describing the frescoes and is very helpful in appreciating the magnificent rooms. (Easy to find in tourist shops and only 5.50eu) If you go early in the day, bring small change, they don’t get a lot of visitors and didn’t have change for a10eu note, so I had to get a coffee at one of the local cafes to obtain the change for the 2 eu entrance fee! Camera di San Paolo is easy to find and just a 5 minute walk from the Dumo/Baptistery down a lovely shaded lane that leads into a park. Highly recommended for art lovers!
